Gamma Correction for Brightness Preservation in Natural Images

Due to improper acquisition settings and other noise artifacts,the image degraded to yield poor mean preservation in brightness.The simplest way to improve the preservation is the implementation of histogram equalization.Because of over-enhancement,it failed to preserve the mean brightness and produce the poor quality of the image.This paper proposes a multi-scale decomposi-tion for brightness preservation using gamma correction.After transformation to hue,saturation and intensity(HSI)channel,the 2D-discrete wavelet transform decomposed the intensity component into low and high-pass coefficients.At the next phase,gamma correction is used by auto-tuning the scale value.The scale is the modified constant value used in the logarithmic function.Further,the scale value is optimized to obtain better visual quality in the image.The optimized value is the weighted distribution of standard deviation-mean of low pass coefficients.Finally,the experimental result is estimated in terms of quality assessment measures used as absolute mean brightness error,the measure of information detail,signal to noise ratio and patch-based contrast quality in the image.By comparison,the proposed method proved to be suitably remarkable in retaining the mean brightness and better visual quality of the image. 展开更多

HY-2A is the first one of the Chinese HY-2 ocean satellite series carrying a microwave radiometer(RM)to measure sea surface temperature,sea surface wind speed,atmospheric water vapor,cloud liquid water content,and rain rate.We verified the RM level 1B brightness temperature(T B)to retrieve environmental parameters.In the verification,TB that simulated using the ocean-atmosphere radiative transfer model(RTM)was used as a reference.The total bias and total standard deviation(SD)of the RM level 1B TB,with reference to the RTM simulation,ranged-20.6-4.38 K and 0.7-2.93 K,respectively.We found that both the total bias and the total SD depend on the frequency and polarization,although the values for ascending and descending passes are different.In addition,substantial seasonal variation of the bias was found at all channels.The verification results indicate the RM has some problems regarding calibration,e.g.,correction of antenna spillover and antenna physical emission,especially for the 18.7-GHz channel.Based on error analyses,a statistical recalibration algorithm was designed and recalibration was performed for the RM level 1B TB.Validation of the recalibrated TB indicated that the quality of the recalibrated RM level 1B TB was improved significantly.The bias of the recalibrated T B at all channels was reduced to<0.4 K,seasonal variation was almost eradicated,and SD was diminished(i.e.,the SD of the 18.7-GHz channel was reduced by more than 0.5K). 展开更多

This study cross-calibrated the brightness temperatures observed in the Arctic by using the FY-3B/MWRI L1 and the Aqua/AMSR-E L2A.The monthly parameters of the cross-calibration were determined and evaluated using robust linear regression.The snow depth in case of seasonal ice was calculated by using parameters of the crosscalibration of data from the MWRI Tb.The correlation coefficients of the H/V polarization among all channels Tb of the two sensors were higher than 0.97.The parameters of the monthly cross-calibration were useful for the snow depth retrieval using the MWRI.Data from the MWRI Tb were cross-calibrated to the AMSR-E baseline.Biases in the data of the two sensors were optimized to approximately 0 K through the cross-calibration,the standard deviations decreased significantly in the range of 1.32 K to 2.57 K,and the correlation coefficients were as high as 99%.An analysis of the statistical distributions of the histograms before and after cross-calibration indicated that the FY-3B/MWRI Tb data had been well calibrated.Furthermore,the results of the cross-calibration were evaluated by data on the daily average Tb at 18.7 GHz,23.8 GHz,and 36.5 GHz(V polarization),and at 89 GHz(H/V polarization),and were applied to the snow depths retrieval in the Arctic.The parameters of monthly cross-calibration were found to be effective in terms of correcting the daily average Tb.The results of the snow depths were compared with those of the calibrated MWRI and AMSR-E products.Biases of 0.18 cm to 0.38 cm were observed in the monthly snow depths,with the standard deviations ranging from 4.19 cm to 4.80 cm. 展开更多

Grain kernel discoloration(KD)in cereal crops leads to down-grading grain quality and substantial economic losses worldwide.Breeding KD tolerant varieties requires a clear understanding of the genetic basis underlying this trait.Here,we generated a high-density single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)map for a diverse barley germplasm and collected trait data from two independent field trials for five KD related traits:grain brightness(TL),redness(Ta),yellowness(Tb),black point impact(Tbpi),and total black point in percentage(Tbpt).Although grain brightness and black point is genetically correlated,the grain brightness traits(TL,Ta,and Tb)have significantly higher heritability than that of the black point traits(Tbpt and Tbpi),suggesting black point traits may be more susceptible to environmental influence.Using genome-wide association studies(GWAS),we identified a total of 37 quantitative trait loci(QTL),including two major QTL hotspots on chromosomes 4H and 7H,respectively.The two QTL hotspots are associated with all five KD traits.Further genetic linkage and gene transcription analyses identified candidate genes for the grain KD,including several genes in the flavonoid pathway and plant peroxidase.Our study provides valuable insights into the genetic basis for the grain KD in barley and would greatly facilitate future breeding programs for improving grain KD resistance. 展开更多

The choices of the parameterizations for each component in a microwave emission model have significant effects on the quality of brightness temperature(Tb) simulation. How to reduce the uncertainty in the Tb simulation is investigated by adopting a statistical post-processing procedure with the Bayesian model averaging(BMA) ensemble approach. The simulations by the community microwave emission model(CMEM) coupled with the community land model version 4.5(CLM4.5) over China's Mainland are conducted by the 24 configurations from four vegetation opacity parameterizations(VOPs),three soil dielectric constant parameterizations(SDCPs), and two soil roughness parameterizations(SRPs). Compared with the simple arithmetical averaging(SAA) method,the BMA reconstructions have a higher spatial correlation coefficient(larger than 0.99)than the C-band satellite observations of the advanced microwave scanning radiometer on the Earth observing system(AMSR-E) at the vertical polarization. Moreover, the BMA product performs the best among the ensemble members for all vegetation classes, with a mean root-mean-square difference(RMSD) of 4 K and a temporal correlation coefficient of 0.64. 展开更多

Modeling co-seismic thermal infrared brightness anomalies in petroliferous basins surrounding the North and East of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau 被引量:1

Co-seismic gas leakage usually occurs on the edge of seismic faults in petroliferous basins,and it may have an impact on the local environment,such as the greenhouse effect,which can cause thermal infrared brightness anomalies.Using wavelet transform and power spectrum estimation methods,we processed brightness temperature data from the Chinese geostationary meteorological satellite FY-C/E.We report similarities between the co-seismic thermal infrared brightness(CTIB)anomalies before,during and after earthquakes that occurred at the edges of the Sichuan,Tarim,Qaidam,and Junggar basins surrounding the North and East of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau in western China.Additionally,in each petroliferous basin,the area of a single CTIB anomaly accounted for 50%to 100%of the basin area,and the spatial distribution similarities in the CTIB anomalies existed before,during and after these earthquakes.To better interpret the similarities,we developed a basin warming effect model based on geological structures and topography.The model suggests that in a petroliferous basin with a subsurface gas reservoir,gas leakage could strengthen with the increasing stress before,during,and even after an earthquake.The accumulation of these gases,such as the greenhouse gases CH4 and CO2,results in the CTIB anomalies.In addition,we conclude that the CTIB anomalies are strengthened by the high mountains(altitude^5000 m)around the basins and the basins’independent climatic conditions.This work provides a new perspective from which to understand the CTIB anomalies in petroliferous basins surrounding the North and East of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. 展开更多

We report our recent progress in the design and simulation of a high-brightness S-band photo-injector with a ballistic bunching scheme aimed at driving an inverse Compton scattering(ICS)X-ray source.By adding a short standing-wave buncher between the RF gun and first booster in a conventional S-band photo-injector,electron bunches with a 500 pC charge can be compressed to the sub-picosecond level with very limited input RF power and an unchanged basic layout of the photo-injector.Beam dynamics analysis indicates that fine tuning of the focusing strength of the gun and linac solenoid can well balance additional focusing provided by the standing wave buncher and generate a well-compensated transverse emittance.Thorough bunching dynamics simulations with different operating conditions of the buncher show that a buncher with more cells and a moderate gradient is suitable for simultaneously obtaining a short bunch duration and low emittance.In a typical case of a 9-cell buncher with a 38 MV/m gradient,an ultrashort bunch duration of 0.5 ps(corresponding to a compression ratio of>5)and a low emittance of<1 mm mrad can be readily obtained for a 500 pC electron pulse.This feasible ballistic bunching scheme will facilitate the implementation of an ultrashort pulse mode inverse Compton scattering X-ray source on most existing S-band photo-injectors. 展开更多

We demonstrate a high power, high brightness, slab amplifier based on face-pumped Nd:YAG slab gain modules,having a high efficient hybrid cooling system of the conduction cooling and forced convection cooling. Using a single gain module, a laser output power up to 4.5 kW with a remarkable optical-optical conversion efficiency of 51% is realized, indicating an excellent lasing performance of the Nd:YAG slab module. The amplifier operates at a repetition rate of 700 Hz and delivers a maximum average output power exceeding 10.5 kW with pulse duration of 150us. A good beam quality factor is measured to be β = 1.9. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest brightness for a 10 kW level Nd:YAG slab amplifier. 展开更多

By adopting a recently developed semi empirical methodology for removing the atmospheric diffuse light and an improved technique of individual star subtraction, we have newly reduced the distribution of the visible zodiacal light (ZL) brightness from almucantar scan observations of the night sky brightness at Mt. Haleakala, Hawaii. The resulting two dimensional map of the ZL brightness covers the sky over 40°≤λ-λ ⊙≤320° and -40°≤β≤40° and its angular resolution 2°×2°is fine enough to reveal optical counterparts of the structures in the zodiacal emission first found from the IRAS space observations. 展开更多

Solution and solid state fluorescence demonstrated a strong blue/purple emission centered at 450 nm. 1H-NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry analysis, elemental analysis, and DOSY-NMR were used for the characterization of the fluorophore. 展开更多

This paper presents an off-line integrated full ballast to supply a 35W assembly of Power LEDs. The proposed solution integrates an input PFC stage (a flyback converter operating in DCM) and a DC-DC output converter (a buck converter) into a single switch power stage, operating with peak current control. As it will be shown, this control scheme maintains the current through the load constant, regardless of the instantaneous value of the DC link voltage. This issue allows the use of a small capacitor for the DC link, which enhances the overall system reliability. The complete ballast has full dimming capability, and all the analysis and design steps are presented, thus ensuring the fulfilling of the existing regulations. The novelty of the final solution comes from the simplicity and robustness of the control scheme in an integrated compact single-switch power stage. A final prototype of the ballast has been built and tested, and experimental results are shown in the last part of the paper. Finally, conclusions and future developments are shown. 展开更多

Results showed that the effect of brightness on clothing color emotion categorization was significant. With the increase of brightness, the variation curve of positive emotion appears to be a “U-shaped”, whereas that of the negative emotion shows an upside down “U-shaped”. Compared with the low brightness colors, the emotion reaction to the high brightness colors was more positive;Most of the colors with different brightness scales were classified as positive emotions and the minors were classified as negative emotions;the positive colors could be done much faster than the negative ones. 展开更多

We previously reported that standardized maqui berry extract, which contained lots of anthocyanins, has ameliorative effects against dry eyes and visible light-induced photoreceptor cell damage. However, the influence of maqui berry extract on the human skin has not been evaluated even though many skin troubles are related to active oxygen species. Therefore, we conducted a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled pilot study with Delphinol<span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;">&#174;</span></span>, a maqui berry extract standardized for anthocyanins, especially delphinidins and cyanidins, in healthy Japanese female subjects. Capsules containing Delphinol<span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;"><span style="font-family:Verdana, Helvetica, Arial;white-space:normal;background-color:#FFFFFF;">&#174;</span></span></span> (60 mg) or placebo were orally administered to subjects aged 27 to 57 years old for eight weeks. Skin conditions [pigmentation, redness, skin tone, wrinkles, texture, oil content, water content, trans epidermal water loss (TEWL), collagen score, dermal thickness, and elasticity] were measured before and after intervention. Green Perovskite Light-Emitting Diodes(PeLEDs)have attracted wide attention for full spectrum displays.However,the inferior film morphology and luminescence property of quasi-two-dimensional(quasi-2D)perovskite layers limit the photoelectric property of the PeLEDs.In this paper,the effect of strontium(Sr)doped in quasi-2D perovskite layers is investigated to obtain a high-quality active layer.The morphologies and optical properties of Sr-doped quasi-2D perovskite films with different concentrations are studied.With the addition of strontium,more low-dimensional-layer perovskite phases(n D 2 and n D 3)appear in quasi-2D perovskite films,providing efficient intraband carrier funneling pathway and facilitating radiative recombination.The photoluminescence(PL)peak intensity of optimized Sr-doped quasi-2D perovskite layers increases 50%compared with the non-strontium counterpart.Moreover,green PeLEDs based on a Sr-doped quasi-2D perovskite layer reach a maximum luminance(Lmax)of 2943.77 cd/m^(2),which is three times of the control device.The electroluminescence(EL)peaks of Maximum External Quantum Efficiency(MEQE)and Lmax of Sr-doped PeLEDs exhibite a slight shift,indicating the excellent stability and performance of Sr-doped devices.The optimized device can continuously operate for 360 s at MEQE driving voltage,resulting in a half-lifetime of60 s,which is 3-fold greater than that of the control PeLEDs. 展开更多

The brightness of fluorescent agents directly determines the imaging performance as required.Among various fluorophores,small organic species are promising given its exact purity/composition and excellent processibility.However,chromophores with planar geometry may suffer from the undesirable aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ)phenomenon.Encouragingly,luminogens showing aggregation-induced emission(AIE)features are preferable as the aggregates which are the most common used state.In this review,we mainly focus on the strategies employed for boosting the brightness of AIE-active luminogens(AIEgens).From molecule to mor-phology levels,approaches that regulate electronic transition processes of the molecule or the packing extent of aggregates in order to confine molecular motion,reduceπ-πstacking,disrupt fluorophore-water interactions,etc.,are presented.In the end,the current challenges and perspectives are briefly discussed.We anticipate that this review will stimulate new insights and more efforts for the advancement of ultrabright AIEgens. 展开更多

Fine-grained detection of caged-hen head states using adaptive Brightness Adjustment in combination with Convolutional Neural Networks

Timely identification and tracking of abnormal hens in stacked cages are of great significance for precision treatment and the elimination of sick individuals.The head features of the caged-hens are used to overcome observation difficulties caused by the cage and feathers blocking,but it is still hard to identify similar head states.To solve this problem,the fine-grained detection of caged-hens head states was developed using adaptive Brightness Adjustment in combination with Convolutional Neural Networks(FBA-CNN).Grid Region-based CNN(R-CNN),a convolution neural network(CNN),was optimized with the Squeeze-and-Excitation(SE)and Depthwise Over-parameterized Convolutional(DO-Conv)to detect layer heads from cages and to accurately cut them as single-head images.The brightness of each single-head image was adjusted adaptively and classified through the deep convolution neural network based on SE-Resnet50.Finally,we returned to the original image to realize multi-target detection with coordinate mapping.The results showed that the AP@0.5 of layer head detection using the optimized Grid R-CNN was 0.947,the accuracy of classification with SE-Resnet50 was 0.749,the F1 score was 0.637,and the mAP@0.5 of FBA-CNN was 0.846.In summary,this automated method can accurately identify different layer head states in layer cages to provide a basis for follow-up studies of abnormal behavior including dyspnea and cachexia. 展开更多
