With the B3LYP calculation method of density functional theory(DFT)and the 6-31G* basis set, full optimization calculation was made for phenoxathiin10-oxide(PTO)and 135 polybromine phenoxathiin 10-oxides(PBPTOs)with the Gaussian 03 program and molar heat capacity in constant volume(CVθ)value of each molecule in the standard state was obtained. The relation between CVθ and the substitution position and number of bromine atom(NPBS)was studied, and the results indicated good correlation(R2 = 1.000)between CVθ and NPBS of PBPTO compounds.Based on the output file of Gaussian 03 program, molar heat capacity at constant pressure(Cp,m)of PBPTO compounds from 200 to 1,000 K was calculated with the statistical thermodynamics program, and the correlation equation between Cp,m and temperature(T,T-1 and T-2)was obtained with the least-squares method, and the correlation coefficient of the correlation equation(R2)was 1.000.In addition, based on the partition function of each molecule calculated by vibration analysis, the relative rate constant of formation of each molecule was calculated. 展开更多

The chemistry associated with the disinfection of aquarium seawater is more complicated than that of freshwater, therefore limited information is available on the formation and speciation of disinfection byproducts(DBPs) in marine aquaria. In this study, the effects of organic precursors, bromide(Br-) and pre-ozonation on the formation and speciation of several typical classes of DBPs, including trihalomethanes(THM4), haloacetic acids(HAAs),iodinated trihalomethanes(I-THMs), and haloacetamides(HAc Ams), were investigated during the chlorination/chloramination of aquarium seawater. Results indicate that with an increase in dissolved organic carbon concentration from 4.5 to 9.4 mg/L, the concentrations of THM4 and HAAs increased by 3.2-7.8 times under chlorination and by 1.1-2.3 times under chloramination. An increase in Br-concentration from 3 to 68 mg/L generally enhanced the formation of THM4, I-THMs and HAc Ams and increased the bromine substitution factors of all studied DBPs as well, whereas it impacted insignificantly on the yield of HAAs. Pre-ozonation with 1 mg/L O3 dose substantially reduced the formation of all studied DBPs in the subsequent chlorination and I-THMs in the subsequent chloramination. Because chloramination produces much lower amounts of DBPs than chlorination, it tends to be more suitable for disinfection of aquarium seawater. 展开更多

The formation potential of four trihalomethanes (THMFP) and seven haloacetic acids (HAA7FP) in 13 source waters taken from four major water basin areas in China was evaluated using the simulated distribution system (SDS) chlorination method. The specific ultraviolet absorbance (SUVA254: the ratio of UV254 to dissolved organic carbon (DOC)), which ranged between 0.9 and 5.0 L/(mg.m), showed that the organic compounds in different source waters exhibited different reactivities with chlorine. The HAA7FP of source waters ranged from 20 to 448 μg/L and the THMFP ranged from 29 to 259 μg/L. The HAA7FP concentrations were higher than the THMFP concentrations in all but one of the samples. Therefore, the risks of haloacetic acids (HAAs) should be of concern in some source waters. TCM (chloroform) and BDCM (bromodichloromethane) were the major THM constituents, while TCAA (trichloroacetic acid) and DCAA (dichloroacetic acid) were the major HAA species. Br-THM (brominated THM species) were much higher than Br- HAA (brominated HAA species), and the formation of Br-DBP (Br-THM and Br-HAA) should be of concern when the bromide concentration is over 100 μg/L. 展开更多
