A practical method is described for the dynamic analysis, and compared with a 3D finite element (FE) model. Two commercial software packages are used for dynamic analysis considering the soilpile-structure interaction (SPSI). Stiffness and damping of the pile foundation are generated from a computer program, and then input into the FE model. To examine the SPSI thoroughly, three cases for the soil, piles and superstructure are considered and compared. In the first case, the interaction is fully taken into account, that is, both the superstructure and soil-pile system are flexible. In the second case, the superstructure is flexible but fixed to a rigid base, with no deformation in the base (no SSI). In the third case, the dynamic soil-pile interaction is taken into account, but the table top structure is assumed to be rigid. From the comparison beteen the results of these three cases some conclusions are made, which could be helpful for engineering practice.展开更多

The first two steps dealing with fault rupture propagation in the free-field were presented in the companion paper. This paper develops an approximate analytical method to analyze soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI), involving two additional phenomena: (i) fault rupture diversion (Step 3); and (ii) modification of the vertical displacement profile (Step 4). For the first phenomenon (Step 3), an approximate energy-based approach is developed to estimate the diversion of a fault rupture due to presence of a raft foundation. The normalized critical load for complete diversion is shown to be a function of soil strength, coefficient of earth pressure at rest, bedrock depth, and the horizontal position of the foundation relative to the outcropping fault rupture. For the second phenomenon (Step 4), a heuristic approach is proposed, which "scans" through possible equilibrium positions to detect the one that best satisfies force and moment equilibrium. Thus, we account for the strong geometric nonlinearities that govern this interaction, such as uplifting and second order (P-△) effects. Comparisons with centrifuge-validated finite element analyses demonstrate the efficacy of the method. Its simplicity makes possible its utilization for preliminary design.展开更多

Numerous papers have been published since the early 1970s; however, very few of these papers have analytic closed-form solu- tions available. The soil-structure interaction problem is one of the most classic problems connecting the two dis- ciplines of earthquake engineering and civil engineering. The interaction effect represents the mechanism of energy transfer and dissipation among the elements of the dynamic system, namely the soil subgrade, foundation, and super- structure. This interaction effect is important across many structure, foundation, and subgrade types but is most pro- nounced when a rigid superstructure is founded on a rela- tively soft lower foundation and subgrade. This effect may only be ignored when the subgrade is much harder than a flexible superstructure: for instance a flexible moment frame superstructure founded on a thin compacted soil layer on top of very stiff bedrock below. This paper will study the interaction effect of the subgrade and the super- structure. The analytical solution of the interaction of a shear wall, flexible-rigid foundation, and an elastic half- space is derived for incident SH waves with various angles of incidence. It found that the flexible ring (soft layer) cannot be used as an isolation mechanism to decouple asuperstructure from its substructure resting on a shaking half-space.展开更多

The aim of this paper is to highlight the soil-structure interaction with a linear variation of the mechanical properties of the soil with the depth. The theory of plates and the soil-structure interaction has allowed reaching the general equation of the problem which depends on both the mechanical properties of the concrete and the subgrade. This study shows that the linearity of the elastic modulus of subgrade leads to larger displacements when this modulus is assumed to be constant in the soil mass. It also shows that the Poisson’s ratio of soil and mechanical properties of the concrete have an insignificant influence on the displacements. This analysis also shows that the points in the upper half-thickness of soil are the most sensitive to the parameters of the model.展开更多

This study investigates the structural strength of a tri-floater floating foundation supporting a 2.6 MW Darrieus VAWT. Finite element models of the floating foundation were developed using space plate-beam elements. The environmental loads, such as the aerodynamic loads, static wind loads, and wave-current loads, were considered. The general strengths of the floating foundation were calculated for the normal operating case(a cut-out wind speed of 25 m s^(-1) and blade rotation of 12 r min^(-1) were used to analyze the most unfavorable loads) and an extreme case(wind speed of 40 m s^(-1) and parked blades), and the weak components of the structure were analyzed. The results show that the floating foundation meets the strength requirements and the structural stress is highest when the wave, wind, and current are in a collinear direction. The main and secondary supporting bars transmit the loads between the stand columns and the tower foundation, and their stresses are higher than those in the other components. In the actual design, these supporting bars should be strengthened. The aerodynamic loads are very important and should be considered in the structural strength analysis of the floating foundation and the floating wind turbine system.展开更多

It also develops a reliability assessment tool for multi- story building raft foundations subjected to earthquake loading. Several multi-story buildings with various configurations, heights, and soil profiles, were subjected to several ACI code combinations of gravity and earthquake loads from different seismic zones. The reliability of the raft foundations of these buildings was assessed using the reliability index approach based on their resistance to the applied loads. Also, the responses of the multi-story buildings under these loading combinations were studied and analyzed in order to draw recommendations and guidelines for the preliminary design of structurally efficient and reliable raft foundations in earthquake zones.展开更多

The finite element model of a large-scale prestressing bucket founda- tion for offshore wind turbines is set up and the structural characteristics of the arc transition structure of the founda- tion are analyzed for 40-60 channels(20-30 rows) arranged with prestressing steel strand under the same ultimate load and boundary conditions. The mechanical characteristics of the key parts of the foundation structures are illus- trated by the peak of the principal tensile stress, the peak of the principal compressive stress and the distribution areas where the principal tensile stress is larger than 2.00 MPa. It can be concluded that the maximum principal tensile stress of the arc transition decreases with the increasing number of channels, and the amplitude does not change signifi- cantly; the maximum principal compressive stress increases with the increasing number of channels and the amplitude changes significantly; however, for the distribution areas where the principal tensile stress is larger than 2.00 MPa, with different channel numbers, the phenomenon is not obvious. Furthermore, the principal tensile stress at the top of the foundation beams fluctuantly increases with the increasing number of channels and for the top cover of the bucket, the principal tensile stress decreases with the increasing number of channels.展开更多

文摘Pile foundation bearing-retaining wall combination structure is a new type of support structure developed in recent years. This article focuses on the characteristics, advantages, and application scope of the support structure, while combining a variety of algorithms, according to different geological conditions and slope stability,as well as summarizes the pile foundation bearing-retaining wall combination structure force analysis and design methods, taking a high-fill road project in Chongqing as an example. The application of this support structure under special conditions, such as thicker soil layer, steeper sliding surface, weak foundation, and limited slope release conditions,is presented, which illustrates the technical advantages of this support structure and proving that it has several other advantages, including clear force mechanism as well as economic and reasonable structure, thus providing reference for similar projects.
文摘In view of the infinity behaviors of 3-D Kelvin solution, we constructed an infinite spline boundary element which has fine precision in the analysis of the half space foundation subjected to uniform pressure on the circular domain. We also analysed a square plate resting on elastic half space foundation. The results indicate that this model not only fits for the coupled analysis of foundation and structures but also has the advantage of fewer degrees of freedom and fine precision.
文摘This article focuses on the study of the behavior of a soil mass under a plate subjected to a uniformly distributed load. This analysis also shows that the points in the upper half-thickness of soil are the most sensitive to the parameters of the model.

文摘In the process of developing offshore wind power towards deeper waters, the advantages of the bucket foundation in terms of integrated construction and economy are becoming increasingly evident. In contrast to conventional floating bodies, the air-floating bucket foundations can achieve self-floating with the help of the air in the compartment and adjust its buoyancy and stability by controlling the air volume in the compartment. The construction process of the bucket foundation involves the control of air in the compartment, thus making it more difficult to construct.Especially after the prefabrication of the bucket foundation, the stability of the bucket foundation at the floating-up stage is particularly critical. The stability of a multi-compartment bucket foundation during the floating-up process cannot be accurately evaluated as the existing theoretical method of air-floating structures does not adequately consider air compressibility. To ensure the safety of the floating-up process,a theoretical method based on the idea of intact stability has been developed to analyze the stability of the air-floating bucket foundations, which will allow accurate calculation of the righting arm for different tilt states and critical air leakage angle. At the same time, accuracy and feasibility of the proposed theoretical method are verified through indoor model tests and practical operation of the prototype structure during the floating-up process. In addition, measures to enhance the stability of the bucket foundation are proposed through sensitivity analysis of influencing factors.

文摘Vertical axis wind turbines(VAWTs) are advantageous for the development of large-scale offshore wind power because the drive system is located at the bottom of the turbine. The aerodynamic loads are very important and should be considered in the structural strength analysis of the floating foundation and the floating wind turbine system.
文摘The paper studies the behavior of reinforced concrete raft foundations for multi-story buildings. Also, the responses of the multi-story buildings under these loading combinations were studied and analyzed in order to draw recommendations and guidelines for the preliminary design of structurally efficient and reliable raft foundations in earthquake zones.
文摘This work aims the deterministic dynamic analysis,in the time and frequency domain,of a reinforced concrete floor supported by a pre-cast pile foundation system, when subjected to the excitation produced by a large compressor installed in an industry for the production of air gases. The concrete slab presents a dimension of 12 m×15 m,required to support a compressor-motor assembly weighting 1,900 kN and positioned at a height of 4m of the investigated concrete floor. In this investigation, two numerical models were developed and the difference between these models is characterized by the discretization of the support points(pre-cast concrete piles). The developed numerical model adopted the usual mesh refinement techniques present in finite element method simulations implemented in the CSi SAP2000 V.17.2.0 software.Based on the developed analysis methodology, the dynamic structural response of the foundation system is evaluated in terms of natural frequencies, vibration modes, displacements, velocities, and accelerations. The maximum values of the dynamic response of the system are compared with the limit values recommended by standards and project recommendations, aiming a careful evaluation, regarding the performance of the structure in terms of excessive vibrations and the economic aspects involved in the design of the foundation system. Finally, the obtained results of the two developed numerical models are compared,as to evaluate if there are benefits in refining the support points modelling.

文摘The key in the force transmission between the tower and the foundation for offshore wind turbines is to transfer the large moment and horizontal loads. Furthermore, the principal tensile stress at the top of the foundation beams fluctuantly increases with the increasing number of channels and for the top cover of the bucket, the principal tensile stress decreases with the increasing number of channels.
