The potential market for marine engines is more and more obvious. The measurement of the engine temperature and strain becomes very important. The fluorescence fiber sensors are broadly used to measure temperature, concentration, and pH value, etc. The fluorescence sensing systems are based on different principles, namely fluorescence intensity, fluorescence intensity ratio, and fluorescence lifetime. The fluorescence lifetime is an effective parameter for sensing purpose, because it is independent of the intensity of the pumping source and does not need expensive narrow-band filters. An experiment system has been established, in which some samples were produced to measure the fluorescence lifetime and temperature characteristics and the relationship of the strain and temperature versus the fluorescence lifetime was achieved at the same time. The experiment result was fitted and analyzed. The test results show that the fluorescence lifetime decreases with the increasing of temperature. The change of fluorescence lifetime with the strain is inconspicuous comparing to that with the temperature.展开更多

Two micro-holes are drilled on two sides of SCT directly by using femtosecond laser micromachining, and liquid polymer is filled into the SCT through the micro-holes without any air bubbles and then sealed by using ultra-violet(UV) cure adhesive. The sidewall of the SCT forms a Fabry–Perot resonator, and loss peaks are achieved in the transmission spectrum of the SCT at the resonant wavelength. The resonance condition can be influenced by the refractive index variation of the liquid polymer filled in SCT, which is sensitive to temperature due to its high thermooptical coefficient(-2.98 × 10^-4℃^-1). The experimental result shows that the temperature sensitivity of the proposed fiber structure reaches 5.09 nm/℃ with a perfect linearity of 99.8%. In addition, it exhibits good repeatability and reliability in temperature sensing application.展开更多

This leads to seasonal thermal pollution in the mines. This paper examines the dynamics and effects of seasonal variation in surface air temperatures and surrounding rock temperatures in deep coal mines. It also examines temperature variations in the main ventilation circuit, working face, and surrounding rock. The study results revealed that airflow temperatures were significantly affected by seasonal air temperature variations. The greater the distance was between the inlet and the wellhead of the ventilation shaft, the less the effect was on temperature. Moreover, slight temperature variations (1.0-3.0 ℃) were observed between various points on the return route during the summer months. Airflow temperatures along the airflow inlet to the return route of the working face first decreased, but then increased. The temperature field of the surrounding rock increased gradually with increased distance between the mine roadway and inlet, with recorded rock temperatures as high as 40.53 ℃. The radius of the heat-adjusting layer was between 28 and 33 m.展开更多

A simple homodyne fiber interferometer system is then established to measure the interference photoeurrent and the photocurrents from the two fiber arms generated by the signal power on a temperature control plat. The homodyne fiber interferometer system is composed of fiber and sensitive to the variation of temperature. Thus, is necessary to study the temperature characteristics in the phase measurement of homodyne fiber interferometer. The experimental results show that the variation of the phase difference of signals in the two fiber arms is proportional to the variation of temperature.展开更多

The sensing head consists of a micro ellipsoidal air cavity and a small section of solid-core photonic crystal fiber. The reflective index (RI) and temperature can be interrogated simultaneously through a fast Fourier transform and by tracing the dip wavelength shift of the reflective spectrum. Experimental results show that the RI amplitude and wavelength sensitivities are 5.30/ RIU and 8.46 × 10-1 nm/RIU in the range from 1.34 to 1.43, and the temperature amplitude and wavelength sensitivities are 6.8 × 10-4/℃ and 2.48 × 10-3 nm/℃ in the range from 15℃ to 75℃, respectively. Easy fabrication, a simple system, and simultaneous measurement make it appropriate for aluM-parameter sensing application.展开更多

This sensor consists of two twisted points on a commercial single mode fiber introduced by flame-heated and rotation treatment. The fabrication process modifies the geometrical configuration and refractive index of the fiber. Different cladding modes are excited at the first twisted point, and part of them are coupled back to the fiber core at the second twisted point. Experimental results show distinct sensitivities of 34.9 pm/με with 49.23 pm/℃ and -36.19 pm/με with 62.99 pm/℃ for the two selected destructive interference wavelengths.展开更多

Theoretical analysis shows that two microstructures with similar sensitivities cannot be used for double parameters measurement. The LPFG is micromachined by the CO_2 laser, and the FBG is micromachined by the excimer laser. For the validation and comparison, two FBGs and one LPFG are cascaded with three transmission valleys, namely FBG1 valley at 1 536.3 nm, LPFG valley at 1 551.2 nm, and FBG2 valley at 1 577.3 nm. The temperature and strain characteristics of the proposed sensor are measured at 45—70 °C and 250—500 με, respectively. The sensitivity matrix is determined by analyzing wavelength shifts and parameter response characterization of three different dips. The proposed optical fiber sensor based on LPFG cascaded with FBG structure can be efficiently used for double parameters measurement with promising application prospect and great research reference value.展开更多
