Business cases for energy storage with multiple service provision

Energy storage(ES)has been considered as the key source of flexibility to support the integration of renewable energy.Previous studies have demonstrated the substantial system cost savings by the deployment of ES,including both investment and operation of generation,transmission and distribution infrastructure.However,this societal benefit may not be realized if industry actors do not have a viable business case to appropriately capture these multiple value streams.In this context,this paper investigates the value that ES may deliver to its owner over two specific business cases in a 2030 UK system.Firstly,the application of large-scale ES in the wholesale market is analysed.It is demonstrated that the optimal allocation of ES to provide multiple services is the key element for ES to become competitive in the electricity market.In the second business case,this paper analyses the value of kilowattscale ES combined with roof photovoltaic(PV)system in the household and community level.The study shows that multiple service provision of ES through advanced pricing schemes,for example time-of-use(ToU)tariff and dynamic distribution use of system(DUoS),lead to higher value and the coordination in the community level could further justify the application of domestic ES.

Business Blockchain Suitability Determinants: Decision-Making through an Intuitionistic Fuzzy Method

Blockchain is one of the innovative and disruptive technologies that has a wide range of applications in multiple industries beyond cryptocurrency.The widespread adoption of blockchain technology in various industries has shown its potential to solve challenging business problems,as well as the possibility to create new business models which can increase a firm’s competitiveness.Due to the novelty of the technology,whereby many companies are still exploring potential use cases,and considering the complexity of blockchain technology,which may require huge changes to a company’s existing systems and processes,it is important for companies to carefully evaluate suitable use cases and determine if blockchain technology is the best solution for their specific needs.This research aims to provide an evaluation framework that determines the important dimensions of blockchain suitability assessment by identifying the key determinants of suitable use cases in a business context.In this paper,a novel approach that utilizes both qualitative(Delphi method)and quantitative(fuzzy set theory)methods has been proposed to objectively account for the uncertainty associated with data collection and the vagueness of subjective judgments.This work started by scanning available literature to identify major suitability dimensions and collected a range of criteria,indicators,and factors that had been previously identified for related purposes.Expert opinions were then gathered using a questionnaire to rank the importance and relevance of these elements to suitability decisions.Subsequently,the data were analyzed and we proceeded to integrate multi-criteria group decision-making(MCGDM)and intuitionistic fuzzy set(IFS)theory.The findings demonstrated a high level of agreement among experts,with the model being extremely sensitive to variances in expert assessments.Furthermore,the results helped to refine and select the most relevant suitability determinants under three important dimensions:functional suitability of the use case,organizational applicability,and ecosystem readiness.

Tsinghua SEM Wins Second Place in Copenhagen Business School Case Competition 2008

The Copenhagen Business School Case Competition 2008 has closed on March 1, 2008. Tsinghua team, made up of four SEM senior students, Tang Tang, Yuan Shuai, Zhang Chuan, and Ma Yuan went to the final round and won the second place in the competition which 12 undergraduate teams from world leading business schools participated in.

Former Harvard Business School Senior Associate Dean F.Warren McFarlan Appointed Co-Director of Tsinghua School of Economics and Management China Business Case Center

Tsinghua University＇s School of Economics and Management （SEM） announced the appointment on August 18, 2009, of former Senior Associate Dean of the Harvard Business School Professor F. Warren McFarlan as Co-Director of SEM＇s China Business Case Center for the next three years. During his tenure, Professor McFarlan will design a Harvard Business School case study based teaching platform for SEM adapted to the current business environment in China. Professor McFarlan will also select a company as the basis for case study and research on the problems the company encounters in its growth process. He may also open further case development and teaching seminars in the future.

Benefits Realization Management Framework to Ensure the Creation and Timely Delivery of Public Value in Uruguay

The aim of this article is to share the experience in enhancing tax administration capacity building to manage benefits realization.In 2020 the Uruguayan Tax Administration implemented the Benefits Realization Management framework through the application of the DGI Business Case Preparation Methodology and the DGI Benefits Management General Methodology.This article describes the main characteristics of both methodologies,their implementation process,the results obtained,and the actions that have been planned to be carried out to consolidate such practices in the organization.It also analyzes the relationship between benefits realization,organizational strategy,portfolio management,and public value creation.
