Reconstructed Light Extinction Coefficients Using Chemical Compositions of PM_(2.5) in Winter in Urban Guangzhou, China 被引量:22

The objective of this study was to reconstruct light extinction coefficients (b ext ) according to chemical composition components of particulate matter up to 2.5 μm in size (PM 2.5 ). PM 2.5 samples were collected at the monitoring station of the South China of Institute of Environmental Science (SCIES, Guangzhou, China) during January 2010, and the online absorbing and scattering coefficients were obtained using an aethalometer and a nephelometer. The measured values of light absorption coefficient by particle (b ap ) and light scattering coefficient by particle (b sp ) significantly correlated (R 2 0.95) with values of b ap and b sp that were reconstructed using the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) formula when RH was 70%. The measured b ext had a good correlation (R 2 0.83) with the calculated b ext under ambient RH conditions. The result of source apportionment of b ext showed that ammonium sulfate [(NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 ] was the largest contributor (35.0%) to b ext , followed by ammonium nitrate (NH 4 NO 3 , 22.9%), organic matter (16.1%), elemental carbon (11.8%), sea salt (4.7%), and nitrogen dioxide (NO 2 , 9.6%). To improve visibility in Guangzhou, the effective control of secondary particles like sulfates, nitrates, and ammonia should be given more attention in urban environmental management. 展开更多

Measurement error of unbalance's vibration response plays a crucial role in calibration and on-line updating of influence coefficient(IC). Focusing on the two problems that the moment estimator of data used in calibration process cannot fulfill the accuracy requirement under small sample and the disturbance of measurement error cannot be effectively suppressed in updating process, an IC calibration and on-line updating method based on hierarchical Bayesian method for automatic dynamic balancing machine was proposed. During calibration process, for the repeatedly-measured data obtained from experiments with different trial weights, according to the fact that measurement error of each sensor had the same statistical characteristics, the joint posterior distribution model for the true values of the vibration response under all trial weights and measurement error was established. During the updating process, information obtained from calibration was regarded as prior information, which was utilized to update the posterior distribution of IC combined with the real-time reference information to implement online updating. Moreover, Gibbs sampling method of Markov Chain Monte Carlo(MCMC) was adopted to obtain the maximum posterior estimation of parameters to be estimated. On the independent developed dynamic balancing testbed, prediction was carried out for multiple groups of data through the proposed method and the traditional method respectively, the result indicated that estimator of influence coefficient obtained through the proposed method had higher accuracy; the proposed updating method more effectively guaranteed the measurement accuracy during the whole producing process, and meantime more reasonably compromised between the sensitivity of IC change and suppression of randomness of vibration response. 展开更多

With the method of differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS), average concentrations of aerosol particles along light path were measured with a flashlight source in Chiba area during the period of one month. The optical thickness at 550 nm is compared with the concentration of ground-measured suspended particulate matter (SPM). Good correlations are found between the DOAS and SPM data, leading to the determination of the aerosol mass extinction efficiency (MEE) to be possible in the lower troposphere. The average MEE value is about 7.6m^2.g^-1 , and the parameter exhibits a good correlation with the particle size as determined from the wavelength dependence of the DOAS signal intensity. 展开更多

[Objective] The aim was to study the dynamic variation of extinction coefficient of corn population, so as to improve the accuracy of assessment on net primary productivity (NPP) or yield. [Method] Based on the data of photosynthetic active radiation and leaf area index during corn growing season (from May to September) in 2006, observed in Jinzhou observation station of corn farmland ecosystem, China Meteorological Administration, the dynamic variation of extinction coefficient of corn population was analyzed. [Result] There was a great daily variation in the extinction coefficient of corn population during growing season, and the maximum value appeared from 7:00 to 9:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00, while the minimum could be found around 12:00, but the amplitude of variation decreased in tasseling stage. On a large time scale (5 d), there was a parabolic relationship between extinction coefficient (K) and leaf area index (LAI), with determination coefficient R2 of 0.960 7. The simulation equation of extinction coefficient, based on the sun elevation angle or leaf area index, had poor accuracy at various time during growing season, so a new dynamic model of extinction coefficient was established, namely K=λ(0.784 8-0.001 6θ)(0.154 8LAI2-0.558 6LAI+0.654). [Conclusion] The effect of sun elevation angle and leaf area index on extinction coefficient during corn growing season was considered in the new dynamic model of extinction coefficient, and its simulated result was superior to that of single-factor model. 展开更多

This paper presents a method to calibrate pipe roughness coefficient (i.e., Manning n-factor) with genetic algorithm (GA) under multiple loading conditions. Due to the old pipe age as well as deleting valves and blends in the skeleton of distribution network, most of the pipes in hydraulic model of practical water distribution system (WDS) are rough. The commonly used Hazen-Williams C-factor is therefore replaced by Manning n-factor in calibrating WDS hydraulic model. Adjustment to GA is designed, and the program efficiency is improved. A case study shows that the adjustment can save 60% of the total runtime. About 90% of the relative differences between simulated and observed pressures at monitoring locations are lower than 3%, which suggests that the proposed adjustment to the calibration is efficient and effective. 展开更多

Improved calibration method for displacement transformation coefficient in optical and visual measurements

Optical and visual measurement technology is used widely in fields that involve geometric measurements,and among such technology are laser and vision-based displacement measuring modules(LVDMMs).The displacement transformation coefficient(DTC)of an LVDMM changes with the coordinates in the camera image coordinate system during the displacement measuring process,and these changes affect the displacement measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the full field of view(FFOV).To give LVDMMs higher accuracy in the FFOV and make them adaptable to widely varying measurement demands,a new calibration method is proposed to improve the displacement measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the FFOV.First,an image coordinate system,a pixel measurement coordinate system,and a displacement measurement coordinate system are established on the laser receiving screen of the LVDMM.In addition,marker spots in the FFOV are selected,and the DTCs at the marker spots are obtained from calibration experiments.Also,a fitting method based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing(LOWESS)is selected,and with this fitting method the distribution functions of the DTCs in the FFOV are obtained based on the DTCs at the marker spots.Finally,the calibrated distribution functions of the DTCs are applied to the LVDMM,and experiments conducted to verify the displacement measurement accuracies are reported.The results show that the FFOV measurement accuracies for horizontal and vertical displacements are better than±15μm and±19μm,respectively,and that for oblique displacement is better than±24μm.Compared with the traditional calibration method,the displacement measurement error in the FFOV is now 90%smaller.This research on an improved calibration method has certain significance for improving the measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the FFOV,and it provides a new method and idea for other vision-based fields in which camera parameters must be calibrated. 展开更多

For a practical superconducting quantum interference device(SQUID) based measurement system,the Tesla/volt coefficient must be accurately calibrated.In this paper,we propose a highly efficient method of calibrating a SQUID magnetometer system using three orthogonal Helmholtz coils.The Tesla/volt coefficient is regarded as the magnitude of a vector pointing to the normal direction of the pickup coil.By applying magnetic fields through a three-dimensional Helmholtz coil,the Tesla/volt coefficient can be directly calculated from magnetometer responses to the three orthogonally applied magnetic fields.Calibration with alternating current(AC) field is normally used for better signal-to-noise ratio in noisy urban environments and the results are compared with the direct current(DC) calibration to avoid possible effects due to eddy current.In our experiment,a calibration relative error of about 6.89 × 10-4is obtained,and the error is mainly caused by the non-orthogonality of three axes of the Helmholtz coils.The method does not need precise alignment of the magnetometer inside the Helmholtz coil.It can be used for the multichannel magnetometer system calibration effectively and accurately. 展开更多

The high-order curvature compensation realized by poly and p-diffusion resistors is introduced into the design to guarantee the temperature characteristic. Implemented in 180 nm technology,the proposed BGR has been simulated to have a power supply rejection ratio( PSRR) of 91 dB@100 Hz. The calibration technique covers output voltage scope of 0. 49 V-0. 56 Vwith TC of 9. 45 × 10^(-6)/℃-9. 56 × 10^(-6)/℃ over the temperature range of-40 ℃-120 ℃. At present, the use of furnaces in the northern rural areas of China is very common, due to the insufficient burning of fuel (coal, wood, etc.), carbon monoxide (CO) and other toxic gases are produced, CO colorless and odorless, difficult to find in time, and bring huge safety risks to the life and health of residents. Based on the above problems, we developed a gas monitoring and removal device which could reduce the effect of extinction coefficient. The device was composed of ash settling area, gas disturbance area, spectral absorption identification area and gas removal area. After the air entered the device, the large-size particles were first settled to purify the solid particles in the gas, the gas was disturbed through the multi-layer separator to achieve the turbulent production of the gas, and then the gas was identified through the optical element of the direct absorption spectrum technology. When the toxic gas component reached the threshold, the spray device would automatically start for chemical removal to achieve the role of purifying the gas. At the same time, the device’s alarm could be alerted by buzzer and flash to remind users to evacuate in time. By improving the optical device, the effect of extinction coefficient on measurement was reduced and the monitoring accuracy was improved. 展开更多

The canopy light extinction coefficient (K) is a key factor in affecting ecosystem carbon, water, and energy processes. However, K is assumed as a constant in most biogeochemical models owing to lack of in-site measurements at diverse terrestrial ecosystems. In this study, by compiling data of K measured at 88 terrestrial ecosystems, we investigated the spatiotemporal variations of this index across main ecosystem types, including grassland, cropland, shrubland, broadleaf forest, and needleleaf forest. Our results indicated that the average K of all biome types during whole growing season was 0.56. However, this value in the peak growing season was 0.49, indicating a certain degree of seasonal variation. In addition, large variations in K exist within and among the plant functional types. Cropland had the highest value of K (0.62), followed by broadleaf forest (0.59), shrubland (0.56), grassland (0.50), and needleleaf forest (0.45). No significant spatial correlation was found between K and the major environmental factors, i.e., mean annual precipitation, mean annual temperature, and leaf area index (LAI). Intra-annually, significant negative correlations between K and seasonal changes in LAI were found in the natural {K=2/π[cosαcosθsina^-1(tanθtanα)+(1+cos^2a-cos^2θ^1/2)],a+θ〉π/2 K=cosαcosθ,α+θ≤π/2 k K is usually calculated with the Beer Lambert Law (Monsi and Sakei, 1953):K = - In (Ii/Io) cosθ/(LAIΩ),(2)ecosystems. In cropland, however, the temporal relation- ship was site-specific. Based on daily visibility data obtained from 1980-2002 and air pollution index data from 2001-2004 in Xi'an, long-term variations and relationships for daily horizontal extinction coefficient and mass concentration of PM10 have been evaluated. A decreasing trend was found in horizontal extinction coefficient during the past 23 years, with higher values observed in 1980s relative to 1990s, and the highest and lowest values in winter and summer, respectively. Significant correlation and similar seasonal variations existed between horizontal extinction coefficient and PM10 concentration, suggesting the high influence of PM10 to the visibility drop at a site in the Guanzhong Plain of central China during the past two decades. 展开更多

A novel heat transfer coefficient sensor is introduced and the design,manufacture,and calibration are described.The intended application of this instrument was on a high rotational speed test disc.In the experiments,the heat transfer coefficient sensor was calibrated under static state and rotational state respectively.The calibration under the static state was accomplished in a pipe: the inside diameter(ID) was 0.048m and the total length was 4m,the distance between the sensor and the inlet of the pipe was 3.5m;the standard value was measured using a self-made calibrator.The calibration under the rotational state was accomplished using a rotating disc: the diameter and thickness of the stainless disc were 800mm and 25mm,respectively;the sensor was installed at the location of r=250mm;the rotating disc driven by a 30kW direct current motor can supply the maximum rotational speed of 3000r/min.The standard value under rotational state was provided by an approximate empirical formula.The results show that the designed sensor can measure heat transfer coefficient directly under rotational state and static state with good accuracy and stability;the correlation factor of K are constant under static state and rotational state. 展开更多

Angstrom-Prescott equation(AP)is the algorithm recommended by the Food and Agriculture Organization(FAO)of the United Nations for calculating the surface solar radiation(R_(s))to support the estimation of crop evapotranspiration.Thus,the a_(s) and b_(s) coefficients in the AP are vital.This study aims to obtain coefficients a_(s) and b_(s) in the AP,which are optimized for Chinas comprehensive agricultural divisions.The average monthly solar radiation and relative sunshine duration data at 121 stations from 1957-2016 were collected.Using data from 1957 to 2010,we calculated the monthly a_(s) and b_(s) coefficients for each subregion by least-squares regression.Then,taking the observation values of R_(s) from 2011 to 2016 as the true values,we estimated and compared the relative accuracy of R_(s) calculated using the regression values of coefficients a_(s) and b_(s) and that calculated with the FAO recommended coefficients.The monthly coefficients,a_(s) and b_(s),of each subregion are significantly different,both temporally and spatially,from the FAO recommended coefficients.The relative error range(0-54%)of R_(s) calculated via the regression values of the a_(s) and b_(s) coefficients is better than the relative error range(0-77%)of R_(s) calculated using the FAO suggested coefficients.The station-mean relative error was reduced by 1% to 6%.However,the regression values of the a_(s) and b_(s) coefficients performed worse in certain months and agricultural subregions during verification.Therefore,we selected the a_(s) and b_(s) coefficients with the minimum R_(s) estimation error as the final coefficients and constructed a coefficient recommendation table for 36 agricultural production and management subregions in China.These coefficient recommendations enrich the case study of coefficient calibration for the AP in China and can improve the accuracy of calculating R_(s) and crop evapotranspiration based on existing data. 展开更多

Dual-calibration coefficient:a more accurate protocol for simultaneous determination of superoxide and hydrogen peroxide in human Hep G2 cell extracts

We present a more accurate method for the quantification of superoxide anion (02-) and hydrogen peroxide (H202) simulta- neously in human HepG2 cell extracts. After the xanthine/xanthine oxidase system was added into cell extract which was devoid of O2*- and H202, steady-state and in-situ produced O2*- and H202 by xanthine/xanthine oxidase system was labeled by fluorescent probes and subsequently separated by microchip electrophoresis. Based on this method, two differential equations with the calibration coefficients were established for O2 and H202, respectively. Using the established dual-calibration coefficients, we obtained the calibrated concentrations of 02* and H202 that produced in human HepG2 cells, which were lower (0.66±0.03 and 0.82±0.04 lamol/L for 02*-and H202, respectively) than that (0.85±0.03 and 0.96±0.03 gmol/L for O. and H202, respectively) obtained from statutory working curve. The proposed dual-calibration coefficient protocol takes into account both the complex matrix effect of the biological system and real time decaying of O2 *- and H202, providing a method with higher accuracy. 展开更多

For the problem of in-flight test site radiometric calibration for the FY-1D Meteorological Satellite onboard sensor's visible and near infrared channels,this paper described the calibration method,satellite-ground synchronous observation data acquired at China Dunhuang Calibration Test Site,parameter derivation and radiative transfer computation during the calibration,and the calibration result analysis.At FY-1D seven channels (with central wavelength at Channels 1:630 nm,2:865 nm;6:1610 nm;7:455 nm,8:505 nm;9:555 nm;10:932 nm),calibration coefficients obtained during the ground site calibration were compared with that respectively of pre- launch calibration.It is demonstrated that results of FY-1D onboard two sensors' (A and B) at channels 1,2,6 and 10 were close to pre-calibration,and the absolute difference of Gobi desert reflectance computed using test site and pre-launch calibration coefficients was no more than 2%. At other channels,large pre-launch calibration errors resulted in a poor consistency between the test site and pre-launch calibration.The errors can be corrected by the test site calibration results. Based on a rough estimation,the overall error of the calibration was about 6%. The paper also presented the in-flight vicarious calibration at the visible and near infrared channels of FY-1C sensor A which was launched in 1999 and has been put into operational mode since 2002.The results exhibit that FY-1C sensor's response has 23% attenuation at Channels 7 and 8,while only minor degradation at the other channels was found. During the mission,calibrations were also conducted at NOAA-17's Channels 1 and 2 (1:430 -830 nm,2:500--1072 nm).A very good consistency has been achieved between the test site and pre-launched calibration results. 展开更多

This paper shows some improvements and new results of calibration of Chinese solar radio spectrometer by analyzing the daily calibration data recorded in the period of 1997-2007. First, the calibration coefficient is fitted for three bands (1.0-2.0 GHz, 2.6-3.8 GHz, 5.2-7.6 GHz) of the spectrometer by using the moving-average method confined by the property of the daily calibration data. By this calibration coefficient, the standard deviation of the calibration result was less than 10 sfu for 95% frequencies of 2.6-3.8 GHz band in 2003. This result is better than that calibrated with the constant coefficient. Second, the calibration coefficient is found in good correlation with local air temperature for most frequencies of 2.6-3.8 GHz band. Moreover, these results are helpful in the research of the quiet solar radio emission. 展开更多

The calibration detector of a gamma ray monitor (GRM) is designed to detect alpha particles from 241 Am and to send out the coincidence signal to the GRM X-ray detector. The silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), as a novel photon device, is a good candidate to convert alpha-exciting fluorescent photons into electric signals. Three types of SiPMs from SSPM and MPPC, each having an active area of 3 mm×3 mm, were compared in the matter of the spectra from low-intensity light, dark count, crosstalk probability and I -V curve. The temperature coefficient of SSPM-0710G9MM was also characterized. The application of a SiPM on the GRM has been proved to be feasible. 展开更多
