Human–machine interactions using deep-learning methods are important in the research of virtual reality, augmented reality, and metaverse.Such research remains challenging as current interactive sensing interfaces for single-point or multipoint touch input are trapped by massive crossover electrodes, signal crosstalk, propagation delay, and demanding configuration requirements. Here,an all-inone multipoint touch sensor(AIOM touch sensor)with only two electrodes is reported. The AIOM touch sensor is efficiently constructed by gradient resistance elements, which can highly adapt to diverse application-dependent configurations.Combined with deep learning method, the AIOM touch sensor can be utilized to recognize, learn, and memorize human–machine interactions.A biometric verification system is built based on the AIOM touch sensor, which achieves a high identification accuracy of over 98%and offers a promising hybrid cyber security against password leaking.Diversiform human–machine interactions, including freely playing piano music and programmatically controlling a drone, demonstrate the high stability, rapid response time, and excellent spatiotemporally dynamic resolution of the AIOM touch sensor, which will promote significant development of interactive sensing interfaces between fingertips and virtual objects. 展开更多

Exploration of soil environmental characteristics governing soil microbial community structure and activity may improve our understanding of biogeochemical processes and soil quality. The impact of soil environmental characteristics especially organic carbon availability after 15-yr different organic and inorganic fertilizer inputs on soil bacterial community structure and functional metabolic diversity of soil microbial communities were evaluated in a 15-yr fertilizer experiment in Changping County, Beijing, China. The experiment was a wheat-maize rotation system which was established in 1991 including four different fertilizer treatments. These treatments included: a non-amended control(CK), a commonly used application rate of inorganic fertilizer treatment(NPK); a commonly used application rate of inorganic fertilizer with swine manure incorporated treatment(NPKM), and a commonly used application rate of inorganic fertilizer with maize straw incorporated treatment(NPKS). Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE) of the 16 S r RNA gene was used to determine the bacterial community structure and single carbon source utilization profiles were determined to characterize the microbial community functional metabolic diversity of different fertilizer treatments using Biolog Eco plates. The results indicated that long-term fertilized treatments significantly increased soil bacterial community structure compared to CK. The use of inorganic fertilizer with organic amendments incorporated for long term(NPKM, NPKS) significantly promoted soil bacterial structure than the application of inorganic fertilizer only(NPK), and NPKM treatment was the most important driver for increases in the soil microbial community richness(S) and structural diversity(H). Overall utilization of carbon sources by soil microbial communities(average well color development, AWCD) and microbial substrate utilization diversity and evenness indices(H' and E) indicated that long-term inorganic fertilizer with organic amendments incorporated(NPKM, NPKS) could significantly stimulate soil microbial metabolic activity and functional diversity relative to CK, while no differences of them were found between NPKS and NPK treatments. Principal component analysis(PCA) based on carbon source utilization profiles also showed significant separation of soil microbial community under long-term fertilization regimes and NPKM treatment was significantly separated from the other three treatments primarily according to the higher microbial utilization of carbohydrates, carboxylic acids, polymers, phenolic compounds, and amino acid, while higher utilization of amines/amides differed soil microbial community in NPKS treatment from those in the other three treatments. Redundancy analysis(RDA) indicated that soil organic carbon(SOC) availability, especially soil microbial biomass carbon(Cmic) and Cmic/SOC ratio are the key factors of soil environmental characteristics contributing to the increase of both soil microbial community structure and functional metabolic diversity in the long-term fertilization trial. Our results showed that long-term inorganic fertilizer and swine manure application could significantly improve soil bacterial community structure and soil microbial metabolic activity through the increases in SOC availability, which could provide insights into the sustainable management of China's soil resource. 展开更多

Using density functional theory, noncovalent interactions and two mechanisms of covalent functionalization of drug carmustine with functionalized carbon nanotube(CNT) have been investigated. Quantum molecular descriptors of noncovalent configurations were studied. It was specified that binding of drug carmustine with functionalized CNT is thermodynamically suitable. NTCOOH and NTCOCl can bond to the NH group of carmustine through OH(COOH mechanism) and Cl(COCl mechanism) groups, respectively. The activation energies, activation enthalpies and activation Gibbs free energies of two pathways were calculated and compared with each other. The activation parameters related to COOH mechanism are higher than those related to COCl mechanism, and therefore COCl mechanism is suitable for covalent functionalization. COOH functionalized CNT(NTCOOH) has more binding energy than COCl functionalized CNT(NTCOCl) and can act as a favorable system for carmustine drug delivery within biological and chemical systems(noncovalent). These results could be generalized to other similar drugs. 展开更多

Replacing micro-reinforcing fibers with carbon nanotubes(CNTs)is beneficial for improving the impact properties of ultra-high performance concrete(UHPC);however, the weak wettability and dispersibility of CNTs and the weakly bonded interface between CNTs and UHPC limit their effectiveness as composites. Therefore, this study aims to enhance the reinforcement effect of CNTs on the impact properties of UHPC via functionalization.Unlike ordinary CNTs,functionalized CNTs with carboxyl or hydroxyl groups can break the Si-O-Ca-O-Si coordination bond in the C-S-H gel and form a new network in the UHPC matrix, effectively inhibiting the dislocation slip inside UHPC matrix.Furthermore, functionalized CNTs,particularly carboxyl-fu nctionalized CNTs,co ntrol the crystallization process and microscopic morphology of the hydration products, significantly decreasing and even eliminating the width of the aggregate-matrix interface transition zone of the UHPC.Moreover, the functionalized CNTs further decrease the attraction of the negatively charged silicate tetrahedron to Ca2+in the C-S-H gel, while modifying the pore structure(particularly the nanoscale pore structure)of UHPC,leading to the expansion of the intermediate CS-H layer. The changes in the microstructures of UHPC brought about by the functionalized CNTs significantly enhance its dynamic compressive strength, peak strain, impact toughness, and impact dissipation energy at strain rates of 200-800 s^(-1).Impact performance of UHPC containing a small amount of carboxyl-functionalized CNTs(especially the short ones)is generally better than that of UHPC containing hydroxyl-functionalized and ordinary CNTs;it is even superior to that of UHPC with a high steel fiber content. 展开更多

The society’s urgent demand for environmentally friendly, safe and low-cost energy storage devices has promoted the research of aqueous zinc-ion batteries. However, the uneven deposition of Zn ions on anodes will lead to the growth of the dendrite and reduce the Coulombic efficiency as well as the lifespan of the devices. Herein, we construct an O,N-dual functionalized carbon cloth current collector via a simple hydrothermal strategy, in which the oxygen-containing functional groups and the N heteroatoms can regulate the transmission and deposition of Zn ions, respectively. The proposed synergistic strategy ensures the uniform distribution of Zn ions on the surface of the Zn anode and inhibits the formation of dendrites. The symmetric cell based on the O,N-dual doped carbon cloth presents superior cycling stability(318 h) with a low voltage hysteresis(11.2 mV) at an areal capacity of 1 m Ah cm^(-2)(20% depth of diacharge). Meanwhile, the appreciably low overpotential(16 m V) and high Columbic efficiency(98.2%)also demonstrate that the O,N-dual functionalized carbon cloth can be worked as a promising host for Zn ions deposition. 展开更多

The development of effective synthetic routes is important to manifest proper nature of specific materials.In-situ electrochemical functionalization possesses great advantages over conventional routes, especially facile way and leading to reaching elaborate sites of functional group. Here,we demonstrate the preparation of functionalized carbons by in-situ electrochemical reduction in an argon atmosphere for application in low-cost,environmentally benign, and high-performance oxygen-electrodes for non-aqueous Li-O2 batteries.A Li-O2 battery with functionalized carbon shows a high discharge capacity(100 times that of pristine carbon),high power and cycling stability. The outstanding performance is attributed to the high O2 affinity of the functionalized carbon surface that facilitates the formation of soluble and diffusible superoxide intermediates by the reduction of the remaining O2 competing with surface growth for Li2O2 formation. 展开更多

This paper presents an analytical solution for the free vibration behavior of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC) doubly curved shallow shells with integrated piezoelectric layers. Here, the linear distribution of electric potential across the thickness of the piezoelectric layer and five different types of carbon nanotube(CNT) distributions through the thickness direction are considered. Based on the four-variable shear deformation refined shell theory, governing equations are obtained by applying Hamilton's principle. Navier's solution for the shell panels with the simply supported boundary condition at all four edges is derived. Several numerical examples validate the accuracy of the presented solution. New parametric studies regarding the effects of different material properties, shell geometric parameters, and electrical boundary conditions on the free vibration responses of the hybrid panels are investigated and discussed in detail. 展开更多

The increasing demand of high-performance supercapacitors has aroused great interest in developing specific capacitance and energy density. Active carbon (AC) has attracted much attention as a promising electrode material for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). Here, a facile strategy has been employed to fabricate high-performance EDLCs using the surface-oxygen functionalized active carbon (FAC) as an electrode and 2 M KOH with K3Fe(CN)6 as an electrolyte. In this system, K3Fe(CN)6 was used as a redox additive to enhance the performance of EDLCs. A 38.5% increase in specific capacitance (207.7 F g-1) was achieved compared with the KOH electrolyte without adding K3Fe(CN)G (152.9 F g-1), due to the synergistic effects between oxygenic functional groups and redox electrolyte. These findings provide an alternative route to improve the performance of EDLCs, which are promising candidates for the broad applications of high-performance supercapacitors. 展开更多

The purpose of the present study is to examine the impact of initial geometric imperfection on the nonlinear dynamical characteristics of functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC) rectangular plates under a harmonic excitation transverse load. The considered plate is assumed to be made of matrix and single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs). The rule of mixture is employed to calculate the effective material properties of the plate. Within the framework of the parabolic shear deformation plate theory with taking the influence of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia into account, Hamilton’s principle is utilized to derive the geometrically nonlinear mathematical formulation including the governing equations and corresponding boundary conditions of initially imperfect FG-CNTRC plates. Afterwards, with the aid of an efficient multistep numerical solution methodology, the frequency-amplitude and forcing-amplitude curves of initially imperfect FG-CNTRC rectangular plates with various edge conditions are provided, demonstrating the influence of initial imperfection, geometrical parameters, and edge conditions. It is displayed that an increase in the initial geometric imperfection intensifies the softening-type behavior of system, while no softening behavior can be found in the frequency-amplitude curve of a perfect plate. 展开更多

Background and objective:Activated carbon is commonly used as an immobilisation matrix due to its large surface area, making it a highly desirable matrix for use in immobilising enzymes as preparation for use on the industrial scale. The objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of different acids for functionalisation on immobilisation capacity and also to characterize the functionalized activated carbon for the functional groups present.Materials and methods:Activated carbon was functionalised with three acids(hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulphuric acid)along with a control sample washed with distilled water.Immobilisation capacity was calculated with hydrochloric acid functionalized activated carbon(HCl-FAC)giving the highest immobilization capacity(6.022 U/g).Characterisation of the functionalised activated carbon was conducted using FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infra-Red)spectroscopy analysis of the samples with the aim of analyzing the various functional groups present to determine the sample with distinct characteristics thus telling the degree of adsorption of lipase onto the activated carbon powder.Results:HNO3-FAC(functionalized activated carbon)showed a very distinct pattern as a larger number of surface functional groups emerged. The immobilisation on a matrix ensures thermal stability and increased reusability of the enzyme. Therefore,in this research, lipase sourced from Candida antarctica was immobilised on acid functionalised activated carbon. The best acid for functionalisation was found to be hydrochloric acid. Conclusion:Due to the very distinct patterns shown by the FT-IR spectrum of the HNO3-FAC after a fair comparison with others,it allows for a larger number of surface functional groups which will definitely enhance the stability of the enzyme lipase. 展开更多

Surface functionalization of carbon nanofibers(CNFs) was carried out, i e, CNFs were firstly oxidized and then the surface was silanized by 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane(APTES) via an assembly method. A new kind of high wear resistance s-CNFs/epoxy composite was fabricated by in-situ reaction. FTIR spectroscopy was used to detect the changes of the functional groups produced by silane on the surface of CNFs. The tribological properties and microstructures of modified and unmodified CNFs/epoxy composites were studied, respectively. The expremental results indicate that APTES is covalently linked to the surface of CNFs successfully and improves the dispersion of CNF in epoxy matrix. The friction coefficients and the wear rates of s-CNFs/epoxy composites are evidently lower than those of u-CNFs/epoxy composites under the same loads. Investigations also indicate that abrasive wear is the main wear mechanism for u-CNFs/epoxy composite, with slight adhesive wear for s-CNFs/epoxy composite under the same sliding wear condition. 展开更多

Nanocomposite films based on poly (3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene) (PEDOT), functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes and different dopants were studied. It was fabricated by a simple oxidative electropolymerization method. The dopant substances used were SDS (Sodium dodecyl sulfate) and tiron (1,2-Dihydroxybenzene-3,5-disulfonic acid disodium salt hydrate). These nano-composite films were grown electrochemically from aqueous solutions such that constituents were deposited simultaneously onto substrate electrode. The synthetic, morphological and electrical properties of the nanocomposite films obtained were compared. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the composite films consisted of nanoporous networks of SWCNTS (single-walled carbon nanotubes) coated with polymeric film. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), electro-chemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and FT-IR spectroscopy demonstrated that these composite films had similar electrochemical response rates to pure polymeric films but a lower resistance and much improved mechanical integrity. The negatively charged functionalized carbon nano-tubes (CNTSF) served as anionic dopant during the electropolymerization to synthesize polymer/CNTSF composite films. The specific electrochemical capacitance of the composite films is a significantly higher value than that for pure polymer films prepared similarly. Using these composite films, the modified electrodes with improved properties were obtained. (In this paper, for simplicity, the SWANTs-COOH group will be noted CNTsF which means functionalized carbon nanotubes.) 展开更多

Visible light-driven valorization of biomass has recently been a pioneering field for nitrogen-containing heterocyclics syntheses due to its sustainable features.Herein, various aromatic ring-doped g-C_(3)N_(4) nanosheets(Ar-g-C_(3)N_(4);Ar=Py,Pm,Ph)were precisely designed to modulate their intrinsic electronic and band structure, which involves pyridine(Py),pyrimidine(Pm),and benzene(Ph)-doped g-C_(3)N_(4).Photocatalysts(CoPc/Ar-g-C_(3)N_(4)) of cobalt(II)phthalocyanine(CoPc)-fabricated Ar-g-C_(3)N_(4) were then developed for oxidative cyclization of furoin with 1,2-phenylenediamines for syntheses of various biomass-derived quinoxalines under visible-light irradiation. The catalytic activity(in terms of TOFs)of serial CoPc/Ar-g-C_(3)N_(4) samples increased with their transient photocurrents with CoPc/Py-g-C_(3)N_(4) as the most active one.For CoPc/Py-g-C_(3)N_(4),CoPc species functioned as both sensitizer and catalytic sites;while, doped Py led to a narrowed bandgap energy.Mechanism research further demonstrated that O_(2) was activated to superoxide radical(·O_(2)^(-)) by photoexcited high-level-energy electron(HLEE)transfer from Py-g-C_(3)N_(4) to CoPc for the subsequent aerobic oxidation. 展开更多

Platinum-based nanocomposites have been considered as one of the most promising catalysts for methanol oxidation reactions(MORs), which yet still suffer from low electrochemical activity and electron-transfer properties. Apart from van-der-Waals heterostructures, herein, we report a novel nanocomposite with the structure of Pt–Ru bimetallic nanoparticles covalently-bonded onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)(Pt–Ru@MWCNT), which have been successfully fabricated via a facile and green synthesis method. It is demonstrated that the Pt–Ru@MWCNT nanocomposite possesses much enhanced electrocatalytic activity with the electrochemical active surface area(ECSA) of 110.4 m^(2)·g^(-1)for Pt towards MOR, which is 2.67 and 4.0 times higher than those of 20wt%commercial Pt@C and Pt-based nanocomposite prepared by other method, due to the improved electron-transfer properties originated from M–O–C covalent bonds. This work provides us a new strategy for the structural design of highly-efficient electrocatalysts in boosting MOR performance. 展开更多

Monitoring soil microbial communities can lead to better understanding of the transformation processes of organic carbon in soil. The present study investigated the changes of soil microbial communities during straw decomposition in three fields, i.e., cropland, peach orchard and vineyard. Straw decomposition was monitored for 360 d using a mesh-bag method. Soil microbial metabolic activity and functional diversity were measured using the Biolog-Eco system. In all three fields, dried straws with a smaller size decomposed faster than their fresh counterparts that had a larger size. Dried corn straw decomposed slower than dried soybean straw in the early and middle stages, while the reverse trend was found in the late stage. The cropland showed the highest increase in microbial metabolic activity during the straw decomposition, whereas the peach orchard showed the lowest. There was no significant change in the species dominance or evenness of soil microbial communities during the straw decomposition. However, the species richness fluctuated significantly, with the peach orchard showing the highest richness and the cropland the lowest. With different carbon sources, the peach orchard utilised carbon the most, followed by the cropland and the vineyard. In all three fields, carbon was utilized in following decreasing order: saccharides〉amino acids〉polymers〉polyamines〉carboxylic acids〉aromatic compounds. In terms of carbon-source utilization, soil microbial communities in the peach orchard were less stable than those in the cropland. The metabolic activity and species dominance of soil microbial communities were negatively correlated with the straw residual percentage. Refractory components were primarily accumulated in the late stages, thus slowing down the straw decomposition. The results showed that dried and crushed corn straw was better for application in long-term fields. The diversity of soil microbial communities was more stable in cropland than in orchards during the straw decomposition. 展开更多

Silver coatings on the exterior surface of monolithic activated carbon(MAC) with different morphology were prepared by directly immersing MAC into [Ag(NH3)2]NO3 solution. Acid and base treatments were employed to modify the surface oxygenic groups of MAC, respectively. The MACs' Brunauer-EmmettTeller(BET) surface area, surface groups, and silver coating morphology were characterized by N2 adsorption, elemental analysis(EA), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), and scanning electron microscopy(SEM), respectively. The coating morphology was found to be closely related to the surface area and surface functional groups of MAC. For a raw MAC which contained a variety of oxygenic groups, HNO3 treatment enhanced the relative amount of highly oxidized groups such as carboxyl and carbonates, which disfavored the deposition of silver particles. By contrast, Na OH treatment significantly improved the amount of carbonyl groups, which in turn improved the deposition amount of silver. Importantly, lamella silver was produced on raw MAC while Na OH treatment resulted in granular particles because of the capping effect of carbonyl groups. At appropriate [Ag(NH3)2]NO3 concentrations, silver nanoparticles smaller than 100 nm were homogeneously dispersed on Na OH-treated MAC. The successful tuning of the size and morphology of silver coatings on MAC is promising for novel applications in air purification and for antibacterial or aesthetic purposes. 展开更多

We use the ab initio density functional theory to calculate the band structure, density of states, charge transfer, charge density difference, binding energy and vibration frequency. We can see that the conduction band through the Fermi level include SWNT/H_2/Li, SWNT/H_2/Al and SWNT/H_2/Ca, which shows a kind of metallic character. The charge distribution and contour plots of charge difference density of ion/H_2/SWNT show charge transfer between ion and H_2 molecules rather than between H_2 and H_2. Meanwhile, the interaction between Al, Ca and H_2 is weaker than that of Li. We can also prove that the ion is the primary reason to the increase of adsorption energy of hydrogen molecule in SWNT. Finally, we calculate the vibration frequency and don't find any imaginary frequency, which proves that the(7,0) SWNT is more stable. 展开更多

Metal porphyrins and metal phthalocyanines(Pc)constitute a promising class of metal molecular catalysts(MMCs)for efficient CO_(2)-to-CO electrocatalytic conversion due to their well-defined molecular structures. How to adjust the local coordination and electronic environment of the metal center and enhance the molecular-level dispersion of the active components remains as great challenges for further improving the performance.Herein,a cobalt(II)Pc(CoPc)-COOH/carbon nanotube(CNT)-NH_(2)hybrid catalyst was rationally designed by clicking the CoPc-COOH molecules onto the surface of CNT-NH_(2)through amidation reaction. This novel hybrid catalyst exhibited the enhanced current density of 22.4 mA/cm2 and CO selectivity of 91%at−0.88 V vs.reversible hydrogen electrode(RHE)in the CO_(2)electroreduction,as compared with CoPc-COOH/CNT and CoPc/CNT samples. The superior activity was ascribed to the charge transfer induced by introduction of-COOH and-NH_(2)functional groups to CoPc and CNT,respectively, facilitating the active centers of CoI being generated at lower potentials, and leading to the highest turnover frequency(TOF)being obtained over the CoPc-COOH/CNT-NH_(2)hybrid catalyst. The inherent directivity and saturability of covalent bonds formed via the amidation reaction ensure not only a higher density of Co active centers, but also an improved stability for CO_(2)reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR).The present study represents an effective strategy for improving MMCs performance by molecular modulating of metal phthalocyanines on functionalized carbon substrates directed by click confinement chemistry. 展开更多

CO_(2) released by soil serves as an important link between terrestrial ecosystems and atmospheric CO_(2), whose small chang‐es may significantly affect the global carbon cycle. In order to reveal the spatio-temporal variations of CO_(2) concentrations in deep loess, this paper takes Qingliangsi Gully watershed in northwestern Shanxi Province, China as an example to sys‐tematically study soil CO_(2)concentration and its spatio-temporal variations and carbon sink significance under different watershed locations and different land use types. Results show that: (1) The release potential of the loess soil is larger in the depth range of 2 m, which is much more likely to be the CO_(2) release area. (2) Grassland and forest are more advanta‐geous in terms of soil microbial activity and soil carbon reserve compared with farmland. In addition, the change of land use type from farmland to grassland can increase soil organic carbon reserve, which is of far-reaching significance to the global carbon cycle. This is especially true in an area like the Loess Plateau with densely covered hills, gullies, and serious soil erosion in an area of 64×104 km2. (3) In the study area, the diurnal concentration of soil CO_(2) at different depths shows a weak "high-low-high-low" trend from 08:00 to 07:00 next day;and in deep soil it has a lag time compared with the daily change of temperature, generally about 4−12 h, which may be caused largely by the more compact loess structure. It is worth pointing out that the Loess Plateau in China, with a thickness of the loess of tens to hundreds of meters, has the most abundant soil resources in the world, and also stores a large amount of terrestrial soil carbon, which carries the hope of promoting the research of global carbon cycle. 展开更多

Voltammetry measurements have been employed to investigate the redox behaviour of curcumin in aqueous media using functionalized carbon nanotube(FCNTs)modified glassy carbon electrode(GCE).The electro-catalytic properties of FCNTs modified electrode are superior in comparison to the conventional electrode in generating the electrochemical response from curcumin. The oxidation process of the curcumin over the modified substrate is found to be p H dependent and shows 2e^(-)and 2H^(+)proton transfer electrochemical process. The oxidation peak is obtained at 0.37 V and the peak current is found to be linear with the varying concentration of curcumin. The limit of detection(LOD)and the limit of quantification(LOQ)for the curcumin are obtained as 60 and 200 nmol/L,respectively using the FCNTs modified GCE.The enhanced electrochemical response from the FCNTs modified GCE has been utilized in the evaluation of the chemical and biochemical behaviour of curcumin in presence of transition metal ions(Cu^(2+))and ds DNA,and the observation has been supported by the spectrochemical characteristics of the interactions. 展开更多
