针对单光子计数器对高速飞行光子时间测量的高分辨率要求,传统的TDC在时间测量上存在误差较大的不足。本文设计了一种利用FPGA内部逻辑延迟单元Carry4级联构建延迟链的TDC。该方法首先使用子链平均的方式进行数据采样,避免数据“气泡”。其次,结合码密度测试和bin-by-bin校准将各级延迟单元宽度校准至接近均匀宽度,提高系统的测量精度。最后,通过Vivado软件仿真并烧录至ZYNQ7000进行板级测试,实验结果表明,该TDC能够在3 ns的动态时间范围内实现时间分辨率10.91 ps,差分非线性(DNL)范围为[-0.75,1.01]LSB,积分非线性(INL)范围为[-1.74,2.19]LSB。

Shallow sub-lakes are essential for sustaining the successful wintering of waterbirds in Poyang Lake,China

For migratory waterbirds,the quality of wintering habitat is related to spring migration and successful breeding in the next year.The availability of food resources in the habitat is critical and varies within water levels.Although the water-level fluctuations in Poyang Lake have been extremely variable interannually in recent years,the wintering waterbird populations have remained relatively stable.Hence,the mechanism of maintaining the stability is worth exploring.This study aimed to compare the distribution of vegetation and herbivorous wa-terbirds in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017,focusing on three shallow sub-lakes and one main lake are.The results showed that the emergence of tubers and the growth of Carex spp.provided a continuous food supply and habitat for wintering waterbirds with a gradual decline in the water level.Shallow sub-lakes supported almost all of the tuber-eating waterbirds(1.42-1.62×10^(5))and most geese(1.34-1.53×10^(6)).However,the main lake area,covered with Persicaria hydropiper,did not provide adequate and accessible food.This resulted in almost no distribution of tuber-eating waterbirds,with only a few geese congregating in early winter.Our results demonstrated that the shallow sub-lakes under human control provided a different environment from the main lake and are key to sustaining the successful wintering of hundreds of thousands of migratory waterbirds in Poyang Lake.Therefore,we recommend refining the anthropogenic management of the shallow sub-lakes to regulate the water level to ensure the carrying capacity of Poyang Lake.

Experimental Exclusion of Guanaco Grazing Increases Cover, Diversity, Land Function and Plant Recruitment in Patagonia

Semiarid Patagonia represents 25%of the rangeland area in Argentina,and sheep overgrazing has degraded about a third of it in the past.In this century,depleted domestic stocks have mostly stabilized,but Guanaco populations have grown.These native camelids share habitat and diets with sheep,but their effect on vegetation is poorly understood and has long been debated.We set up an exclusion experiment in Monte León and Cañadón Vaca,a semiarid shrubland grassland in southern Patagonia,currently grazed only by guanacos.Vegetation baselines were studied in 2016 in twelve plots,and half of them were protected from guanaco grazing.Thirty-six plots were cleared to study revegetation.Vegetation was reassessed in 2021,and changes were evaluated using a paired t-test.Within protected plots,vegetation cover increased,bare soil diminished,and vegetated patches grew in size,but the density of the patch-interpatch arrangement did not change.Biodiversity,measured by richness and the Shan-non-Wiener(SW)index,grew significantly.Nutrient recycling increased,as did the Stability and Infiltration Land Function indexes,although these last differences were not significant.Vegetation cover under guanaco grazing also increased,mainly due to the growth of dwarf shrubs,a typical tendency in sheep grazing-induced transitions in the region.Vegetated patches under grazing fragmented,resulting in smaller patches and denser patch struc-tures,while diversity and land function indexes remained unchanged.Young plants established in cleared plots without guanacos showed higher cover density and individual size.These effects are similar to those observed in numerous experimental sheep exclosures.Guanaco grazing may thus prevent restoration and contribute to the generalized land degradation processes that overgrazing has been causing in Patagonia for over a century.

A NovelMethod for Determining Tourism Carrying Capacity in a Decision-Making Context Using q−Rung Orthopair Fuzzy Hypersoft Environment

Tourism is a popular activity that allows individuals to escape their daily routines and explore new destinations for various reasons,including leisure,pleasure,or business.A recent study has proposed a unique mathematical concept called a q−Rung orthopair fuzzy hypersoft set(q−ROFHS)to enhance the formal representation of human thought processes and evaluate tourism carrying capacity.This approach can capture the imprecision and ambiguity often present in human perception.With the advanced mathematical tools in this field,the study has also incorporated the Einstein aggregation operator and score function into the q−ROFHS values to supportmultiattribute decision-making algorithms.By implementing this technique,effective plans can be developed for social and economic development while avoiding detrimental effects such as overcrowding or environmental damage caused by tourism.A case study of selected tourism carrying capacity will demonstrate the proposed methodology.

Microvesicles with mitochondrial content are increased in patients with sepsis and associated with inflammatory responses

BACKGROUND Endothelial activation plays an important role in sepsis-mediated inflammation,but the triggering factors have not been fully elucidated.Microvesicles carrying mitochondrial content(mitoMVs)have been implicated in several diseases and shown to induce endothelial activation.AIM To explore whether mitoMVs constitute a subset of MVs isolated from plasma of patients with sepsis and contribute to endothelial activation.METHODS MVs were isolated from human plasma and characterized by confocal microscopy and flow cytometry.Proinflammatory cytokines,including interleukin(IL)-6,IL-8 and tumour necrosis factor(TNF)-α,and soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule(sVCAM)-1 were detected by ELISA.Human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)were stimulated with the circulating MVs to evaluate their effect on endothelial activation.RESULTS MitoMVs were observed in plasma from patients with sepsis.Compared with those in healthy controls,expression of MVs,mitoMVs,proinflammatory cytokines and sVCAM-1 was increased.The number of mitoMVs was positively associated with TNF-αand sVCAM-1.In vitro,compared with MVs isolated from the plasma of healthy controls,MVs isolated from the plasma of patients with sepsis induced expression of OAS2,RSAD2,and CXCL10 in HUVECs.MitoMVs were taken up by HUVECs,and sonication of MVs significantly reduced the uptake of mitoMVs by HUVECs and expression of the above three type I IFNdependent genes.CONCLUSION MitoMVs are increased in the plasma of patients with sepsis,which induces elevated expression of type I IFN-dependent genes.This suggests that circulating mitoMVs activate the type I IFN signalling pathway in endothelial cells and lead to endothelial activation.

Integrated water risk early warning framework of the semi-arid transitional zone based on the water environmental carrying capacity (WECC)

Water risk early warning systems based on the water environmental carrying capacity(WECC)are powerful and effective tools to guarantee the sustainability of rivers.Existing work on the early warning of WECC has mainly concerned the comprehensive evaluation of the status quo and lacked a quantitative prejudgement and warning of future overload.In addition,existing quantitative methods for short-term early warning have rarely focused on the integrated change trends of the early warning indicators.Given the periodicity of the socioeconomic system,however,the water environmental system also follows a trend of cyclical fluctuations.Thus,it is meaningful to monitor and use this periodicity for the early warning of the WECC.In this study,we first adopted and improved the prosperity index method to develop an integrated water risk early warning framework.We also constructed a forecast model to qualitatively and quantitatively prejudge and warn about the development trends of the water environmental system.We selected the North Canal Basin(an essential connection among the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region)in China as a case study and predicted the WECC in 25 water environmental management units of the basin in 2018–2023.We found that the analysis of the prosperity index was helpful in predicting the WECC,to some extent.The result demonstrated that the early warning system provided reliable prediction(root mean square error of 0.0651 and mean absolute error of 0.1418),and the calculation results of the comprehensive early warning index(CEWI)conformed to the actual situation and related research in the river basin.From 2008 to 2023,the WECC of most water environmental management units in the basin had improved but with some spatial differences:the CEWI was generally poor in areas with many human disturbances,while it was relatively good in the upstream regions with higher forest and grass covers as well as in the downstream areas with larger water volume.Finally,through a sensitivity analysis of the indicators,we proposed specific management measures for the sustainability of the water environmental system in the North Canal Basin.Overall,the integrated water risk early warning framework could provide an appropriate method for the water environmental administration department to predict the WECC of the basin in the future.This framework could also assist in implementing corresponding management measures in advance,especially for the performance evaluation and the arrangement of key short-term tasks in the River Chief System in China.

Optimal Concentration of the Bubble Drainage Agent in Foam Drainage Gas Recovery Applications

Foam drainage is theflow of liquid through the interstitial spaces between bubbles driven by capillarity and grav-ity and resisted by viscous damping.The so-called foam drainage gas recovery technology is a technique tradi-tionally used to mitigate the serious bottom-hole liquid loading in the middle and late stages of gas well production.In this context,determining the optimal concentration of the bubble drainage agent is generally cru-cial for the proper application of this method.In this study,a combination of indoor experiments and theoretical analysis have been used to determine the pressure drop related to the foam-carrying capacity in a representative gasfield.Dynamic and static experiments were designed with a bubble drainage agent concentration varying in the range 0.3%–0.6%.Using thefield formation water data,the optimal soaking agent concentration was obtained and pressure drop test experiments on the foam carrying capacity were conducted accordingly.These tests have revealed that the optimal foam displacement agent concentration is 0.5%,and the foam quality at the optimum concentration is between 0.78–0.98.A theoretical method for calculating the pressure drop at the optimum soak-away concentration based on experimental data has also been introduced.The error of the proposed method is within 15%compared to the experimental measured value,demonstrating that it is highly accurate and simple.

Principles of Nanoparticle Delivery to Solid Tumors

The effective treatment of patients with cancer hinges on the delivery of therapeutics to a tumor site.Nanoparticles provide an essential transport system.We present 5 principles to consider when designing nanoparticles for cancer targeting:(a)Nanoparticles acquire biological identity in vivo,(b)organs compete for nanoparticles in circulation,(c)nanoparticles must enter solid tumors to target tumor components,(d)nanoparticles must navigate the tumor microenvironment for cellular or organelle targeting,and(e)size,shape,surface chemistry,and other physicochemical properties of nanoparticles influence their transport process to the target.This review article describes these principles and their application for engineering nanoparticle delivery systems to carry therapeutics to tumors or other disease targets.

Performance Measurement of Energy Efficient and Highly Scalable Hybrid Adder

The adders are the vital arithmetic operation for any arithmetic operations like multiplication,subtraction,and division.Binary number additions are performed by the digital circuit known as the adder.In VLSI(Very Large Scale Integration),the full adder is a basic component as it plays a major role in designing the integrated circuits applications.To minimize the power,various adder designs are implemented and each implemented designs undergo defined drawbacks.The designed adder requires high power when the driving capability is perfect and requires low power when the delay occurred is more.To overcome such issues and to obtain better performance,a novel parallel adder is proposed.The design of adder is initiated with 1 bit and has been extended up to 32 bits so as verify its scalability.This proposed novel parallel adder is attained from the carry look-ahead adder.The merits of this suggested adder are better speed,power consumption and delay,and the capability in driving.Thus designed adders are verified for different supply,delay,power,leakage and its performance is found to be superior to competitive Manchester Carry Chain Adder(MCCA),Carry Look Ahead Adder(CLAA),Carry Select Adder(CSLA),Carry Select Adder(CSA)and other adders.
