At a psychiatric hospital, occupational therapists (OT) made patients with dementia perform vegetable harvesting activities as a part of their treatment. The patients became calmer and began to smile not only after but also before and during harvesting activity. Therefore, this study aimed to measure autonomic nervous system (ANS) responses over time in a female patient in her 80s with moderate Alzheimer’s disease (AD) who had experience in farming when performing harvesting activities. Additionally, this study aimed to consider factors associated with changes in ANS responses over time and to verify the physiological therapeutic effects of harvesting activities. Methods: An OT with more than 10 years of experience and a good relationship with the patient conducted one-on-one sessions with the patient. Harvesting activity was performed in a courtyard with trees. The patient harvested lettuce (three lettuce plants) grown in a planter while sitting on a chair. Additionally, the planter was set up on a desk. ANS responses were measured over time from before to after the activity for different events at six time periods. Changes in the patient’s ANS responses were assessed during each period. Results: With the involvement of environmental factors and OT during harvesting activities, parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activity significantly increased. This may lead to improved mental stability. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that implementing harvesting activities may have a positive effect on the PNS in patients with AD with long-term agricultural experience. However, further studies with a larger sample size and multidimensional evaluations are needed.展开更多

However, whether the parent-child activities and using digital devices were serial mediators of the relationship between children’s health and social development needs further verification. Purpose: This study explored how parent-child activities and children’s use of digital devices influence the relationship between children’s health and their social competence. Method: This study used data from Kids in Taiwan: National Longitudinal Study of Child Development and Care. A total sample of 2164 participants was used in this study. Serial mediation analyses were performed using model six of Hayes’ PROCESS (2012). Results: This study found that parent-child activities and the use of digital devices can serially mediate the relationship between children’s health and social competence. Children’s health could directly improve their social competence, but it could also serially mediate social competence by increasing parent-child activities and reducing the use of digital devices. Conclusion: Childcare policy planners and parenting educators should not only call on parents to reduce the use of electronic products for their children, but also encourage parents to spend more time interacting with their children, so that children can learn social skills by interacting with others in their daily lives.展开更多

The two essential oils (...The present work was aimed to the study of the antifungal activity of essential oils of two aromatic plants against three strains of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum responsible for white rot of bean. The two essential oils (EO) of the studied plants: Thymus vulgaris (HET) and Cymbopogon citratrus (HEC), used at different concentrations: C1 (0.75 ml/ml), C2 (1.5 ml/ml) and C3 (3 ml/ml) presented significant inhibitory activities on the three tested fungal strains namely Bia 1, Bia 2, and Njo 2. Two control treatments (T-: containing no antifungal substance and T+: synthetic fungicide) were also used. The antifungal activity here is related to the inhibition of mycelial growth especially with high concentrations of essential oils. Thus, against S. sclerotiorum, HET showed the highest activity comparable to that of T+ (100% inhibition) at all concentrations on the Bia 1 and Bia 2 strains and at concentration C3 on the Njo 2 strain compared to that of HEC, which certainly inhibited the mycelial growth of the different strains considerably (with a maximum of 78.15% on the Njo 2 strain) but not completely. According to their sensitivity, the Bia 2 strain showed a higher sensitivity to essential oils than the others while the Njo 2 strain was more aggressive. On the basis of MIC50 and MIC90 obtained on the Njo 2 strain, the HET turns out to be the most efficient with respective lower values of (1.73 and 23.34 ml/ml) against (4.76 and 26.03 ml/ml) for the HEC. These EO could thus be exploited as biodegradable antifungal substances, likely to control white rot of bean.展开更多

According to the literature, this disease has several causes, but certain types of diabetes such as type 2 diabetes are most closely linked to a metabolic disorder due to abdominal obesity. Thus, the number of individuals with type 2 diabetes is increasing. It is with this in mind that we work to improve human health. The aim of this study is to design new derivatives of 1,3,4-thiadiazole with improved antidiabetic activity by the mathematical model of multiple linear regression (MLR) established previously. The analysis of the effect on the substituents influencing the antidiabetic activity, fourteen (14) new molecules coded CDTH were generated and presenting values of the potential of inhibitory concentration higher than that of the base compound (pIC50 = 2.526). But thirteen (13) of these new compounds belong to the domain of applicability of the MLR model established previously. In addition, the thermodynamic quantities of formation formed at 298K have been calculated. Lipinski’s rule and pharmacokinetic properties proved that five (5) (TH4, TH9, TH10, TH13 and TH14) new molecules can be used as diabetes medicine.展开更多

文摘It has been confirmed in previous studies that there is a positive correlation between physical activity and hope.In this study, rural left-behind children in China was taken as the participants to investigate the impact of physical activity on hope in rural left-behind children and examine the mediating role of perceived social support in the relationship between physical activity and hope.797 valid copies of the questionnaire were collected from China.Pearson correlation coefficient was employed to analyze the relationship between physical activity and hope;SEM and Bootstrap were used to test the mediating effect of perceived social support. The results show that physical activity can not only directly and positively predict the level of hope in rural leftbehind children but can also predict the level of hope through perceived social support;perceived social support plays a mediating role in the relationship between physical activity and hope. These results highlight the necessity to pay more attention to the physical activity of left-behind children and the possibility to improve the level of hope by increasing their physical activity;at the same time, the acquisition of more material, emotional and psychological support from teachers and guardians is more conducive to improving the sense of hope in left-behind children. These findings can deepen the understanding of the sense of hope in left-behind children, and provide new methods for and enlightenments on improving the level of hope in left-behind children.
文摘ADHD is a broad psychiatric disorder that affects children of normal or near-normal intelligence. It is character-ized by inattention, hyperactivity, and age-inappropriate impulsivity, and it is often accompanied by learning dif-ficulties,behavioral,emotional,and interpersonal problems. On the other hand, hyperactive tendencies in children with ADHD exhibit ADHD-like behaviors such as lack of self-control,inattention,hyperactivity,and emotional impulsivity. However, because their symptoms are less severe, they do not meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD but are ADHD or at risk of developing ADHD.The purpose of this study is to alleviate and reduce children’s hyperactivity symptoms by investigating the current situation of the children studied, and systemati-cally intervening and educating children with ADHD through psychological group intervention.Research data shows that ADHD is most commonly diagnosed in school-age children, and in 70%–80%of children with ADHD,symptoms persist into adolescence and 30%into adulthood.Through the use of group psychological intervention in the experiment, the prevalence rate of children with hyperactivity disorder tendency has been effectively reduced. This shows that group psychological intervention training has a significant effect on improving hyper-activity symptoms in children with ADHD tendency.

文摘BACKGROUND The place regular physical activity(PA)should occupy in managing patients with inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD)is unclear.AIM To assess PA levels and barriers in a southern Italian IBD population.METHODS IBD patients with non-severe disease activity[assessed with partial Mayo score for ulcerative colitis(UC)and Harvey-Bradshaw index for Crohn’s disease]were approached to receive an anonymous online questionnaire to assess PA levels using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire(IPAQ)and to assess disease activity as patient-reported outcomes 2(PRO-2)and finally to assess habits, beliefs and barriers in conducting regular PA.Clinical, anthropometric and demographic data of patients were also collected.PA was expressed as continuous units of resting metabolic rate(Met)in min/wk.Three PA groups were identified:Inactive(<700 Met min/wk),sufficiently active(700-2500 Met min/wk)and health enhancing PA(HEPA)(i.e.,HEPA active,>2500 Met min/wk)patients.RESULTS Included patients(219)showed overall PA levels of 834.5 Met min/wk,with a large proportion(94,42.9%)classified as inactive while only a minority(9,4.1%)as health-enhancing PA.Patients without dyslipidaemia(P<0.0001)or on biologics therapy(P=0.022)showed better IPAQ scores in moderate activities.UC PRO-2 correlated negatively with IPAQ intense activities scores(τ=-0.156,P=0.038).PRO-2 did not show notable sensitivity/specificity in predicting IPAQ inactivity(AUC<0.6).IBD activity did not differ between active and inactive patients(P>0.05).Active patients expressed the need to discuss PA with their gastroenterologist. Some barriers(e.g.,diagnosis of IBD and fear of flare-ups after PA)are significantly more reported by inactive patients.CONCLUSION A significant rate of physical inactivity was recorded in this setting.IPAQ showed good feasibility.PA should be an element of discussion in IBD visits assessed quickly with non-invasive questionnaires.
文摘BACKGROUND Meckel’s diverticulum is a common congenital malformation of the small intestine, with the three most common complications being obstruction,per-foration,and inflammation. To date, only a few cases have been reported world-wide.In children, the clinical symptoms are similar to appendicitis. As most of the imaging features are nonspecific, the preoperative diagnosis is not precise. In addition, the clinical characteristics are highly similar to pediatric acute appendicitis, thus special attention is necessary to distinguish Meckel’s diver-ticulum from pediatric appendicitis.Patients with poor disease control should undergo laparoscopic exploration to avoid serious complications, including intestinal necrosis, intestinal perforation and gastrointestinal bleeding.CASE SUMMARY This report presents three cases of appendicitis in children combined with intestinal obstruction, which was caused by fibrous bands(ligaments)arising from the top part of Meckel's diverticulum, diverticular perforation, and diver-ticular inflammation. All three patients, aged 11-12 years, had acute appendicitis as their initial clinical presentation. All were treated by laparoscopic surgery with a favorable outcome.A complete dataset including clinical presentation,dia-gnostic imaging, surgical information, and histopathologic findings was also provided.CONCLUSION Preoperative diagnosis of Meckel’s diverticulum and its complications is challenging because its clinical signs and complications are similar to those of appendicitis in children.Laparoscopy combined with laparotomy is useful for diagnosis and treatment.

文摘An authoritative parenting style has been shown to promote children’s emotion regulation in European-American family studies. However, little is known about how sleep problems and the child’s sibling status in Chinese families affect this relationship.Based on family system theory, this study attempts to better understand the relationship between authoritative parenting style and emotion regulation.Mothers of preschool children in Chinese kindergartens completed questionnaires about their children’s sleep habits, their authoritative parenting styles, and children’s emotion regulation.A total of 531 children participated in this study. Results showed that authoritative parenting was positively associated with emotional regulation.Sleep problems mediated the effects of authoritative parenting style on emotion regulation. The child’s sibling status moderated the mediating effects of sleep problems in authoritative parenting and emotion regulation relationships.Specifically, the relationship between the authoritative parenting style and sleep problems was significant for only children, while birth order had no significant influence on the authoritative parenting style and sleep problems in two-child families. These findings suggest that a lowauthoritative parenting style predicts low emotion regulation through sleep problems, and this depends on the child’s sibling status, indicating that children without siblings may impair emotion regulation due to increased sleep problems.

文摘Background: Harvesting activities have proven effective in reducing stress in patients with dementia. However, further studies with a larger sample size and multidimensional evaluations are needed.
文摘Background: Studies have pointed out the influence of different children’s activities and prolonged use of digital products on their social development. Conclusion: Childcare policy planners and parenting educators should not only call on parents to reduce the use of electronic products for their children, but also encourage parents to spend more time interacting with their children, so that children can learn social skills by interacting with others in their daily lives.
文摘The present work was aimed to the study of the antifungal activity of essential oils of two aromatic plants against three strains of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum responsible for white rot of bean. These EO could thus be exploited as biodegradable antifungal substances, likely to control white rot of bean.
文摘Diabetes is a serious, long-term (or chronic) disease that occurs when a person’s blood sugar levels are high because their body cannot produce enough insulin, or does not produce enough insulin or that it cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. Lipinski’s rule and pharmacokinetic properties proved that five (5) (TH4, TH9, TH10, TH13 and TH14) new molecules can be used as diabetes medicine.
