This particularly pertained to issues related to the demand of resources, the excessive consumption of raw materials, and the associated generated waste. Presently, the construction industry is ranked among the industries that are accountable for the global generation of solid waste and energy consumption, leading to detrimental environmental effects. Nonetheless, over the years, construction methods, technological innovations, and building practices have made considerable progress, influenced by a growing emphasis on sustainability, especially in energy conservation and in adopting the Industrialized Production layer of Construction 4.0 (i.e., modular prefabrication, 3D concrete printing, and BIM). The concept of Circular Economy (CE) has been identified as a potential solution to achieve sustainability in building construction through the design, construction, and end-of-life deconstruction processes that enhance the management of waste based on the framework that is related to reducing, reusing, and recycling. Moreover, information and data related to geolocation complement advanced digital technologies by providing a collaborative platform that supports the application of CE as a practical approach to sustainability. Thus, this study will provide a straightforward methodology for developing a model that integrates BIM and sustainable design with Circular Economy’s concept to enhance the sustainability of construction projects to minimize their waste based on various construction methods (i.e., conventional, modular, and 3D concrete printing). The proposed model interrelates tools and data for the evaluation and planning strategies for the construction and deconstruction waste (CDW) management at the design stage, including estimating the quantities of the wasted materials, quantifying the production rates of selected equipment for the waste handling (loading and hauling) at the various stages of a project as well their associated cost. The proposed model will help users to calculate the quantity of construction and deconstruction waste (CDW) during the design of buildings based on their different construction methods at the early stage by using the concept of Design for Deconstruction (DfD);sustainable construction methods;and deconstruction process for waste management, which will lead to the suitable construction method.展开更多

Carbon neutrality requires shifting from a linear carbon economy (LCE) to a circular carbon economy (CCE). Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, including reduction, recycle, reuse, removal, and storage technologies, represent an important strategy for achieving such a shift. Herein, we investigate the effects of CCS technology adoption in six OMSs—namely the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Algeria, and Iraq—by examining their Circular Carbon Economy Index (CCEI) scores, which reflect compliance with CCE-transition policies. Total CCEI, current performance CCEI dimension, and future enabler CCEI dimensions scores were compared among the aforementioned six OMSs and relative to Norway, which was used as a global-high CCEI reference standard. Specifically, CCEI general scope and CCEI oil scope dimension scores were compared. The KSA, Qatar, the UAE, and Kuwait had higher CCEI scores than Algeria and Iraq, reflecting their greater adoption of CCE-transition policies and greater emission-reducing modernization investments. The current performance CCEI scores of Algeria and Iraq appear to be buttressed to some extent by their greater natural carbon sink resources. Based on the findings, we recommend specific actions for OMSs to enhance their CCE transitions and mitigate the negative impacts associated with the associated investments, including: taking rapid practical steps to eliminate carbon oil industry emissions;detailed CCS planning by national oil companies;international cooperation and coordination;and increased investment in domestic CCS utilization infrastructure.展开更多

A circular bioeconomy offers the opportunities to actualize resource and eco-efficiency enhancement, valorization of waste streams, reduction of fossil energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Albeit biomass resources are a potential feedstock for bio-hydrogen (bio-H2) production, Ghana’s agricultural residues are not fully utilized. This paper examines the economic and environmental impact of bio-H2 electricity generation using agricultural residues in Ghana. The bio-H2 potential was determined based on biogas steam reforming (BSR). The research highlights that BSR could generate 2617 kt of bio-H2, corresponding to 2.78% of the global hydrogen demand. Yam and maize residues contribute 50.47% of the bio-H2 produced, while millet residues have the most negligible share. A tonne of residues could produce 16.59 kg of bio-H2 and 29.83 kWh of electricity. A total of 4,705.89 GWh of electricity produced could replace the consumption of 21.92% of Ghana’s electricity. The economic viability reveals that electricity cost is $0.174/kWh and has a positive net present value of $2135550609.45 with a benefit-to-cost ratio of 1.26. The fossil diesel displaced is 1421.09 ML, and 3862.55 kt CO2eq of carbon emissions decreased corresponding to an annual reduction potential of 386.26 kt CO2eq. This accounts for reducing 10.26% of Ghana’s GHG emissions. The study demonstrates that hydrogen-based electricity production as an energy transition is a strategic innovation pillar to advance the circular bioeconomy and achieve sustainable development goals.展开更多

This paper studies the relations and differences between the four categories and sustainable development as well as ecological economics. Circular economy, eco-industry, industrial ecosystem and cleaner production were put forward during the revolution in “end treatment pattern” of traditional industrial society. Industrial ecology, eco-industry and circular economy theory are three content expansions of cleaner production. Ecological economics is of instructive function theoretically and methodologically for circular economy, eco-industrial, cleaner production and industrial ecology. Circular economy theory is easier to be accepted, compared with ecological economics theory. And circular economy in nature is the complete application of ecological economics theory.展开更多

Aiming at contributing to sus-tainable manufacturing in China, Sino-UK Low Carbon Manufacturing Consortium, a multi-disciplinary research and educational partnershipbetween academia, industry and government agencies in the UK and China with interest in sustainable manufacturing issues, has been formedrecently. The vision, aims and benefits of membership of the consortium are also discussed.
文摘On the basis of the concept and characteristics of circular economy, this paper analyzes the restraining factors of China's circular agricultural development as follows: issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers are outstanding; the problems of agricultural resources and agricultural ecological environment are serious; the quality of agricultural products cannot meet the demand of domestic and international market for food. Based on the internal requirements of low carbon economic development, this paper advances four innovative models concerning China's circular agricultural development as follows: the model of combining planting and breeding of agriculture, the developmental model of leisure and sightseeing, ecological integration model, and the developmental model of reusing agricultural byproducts. Every region should choose or create different circular agricultural model in different domains, in order to better use agricultural resources, reduce the consumption of agricultural energy inputs, reduce the emission of agricultural greenhouse gas, develop low carbon agriculture, and make great contribution for meeting the international challenges and promoting China's agricultural development.
文摘The connotation and development of circular economy and circular agriculture are illustrated from the perspective of circular economy.Take the duplicable Sino-Singapore Eco-City in Tianjin as a case to analyze the background, significance and features of building Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City and point out the sustainable developmental orientation of the "three harmony and three capabilities" as well as its inspiration on the development of Tianjin urban agriculture from the aspects of water-saving,land-saving and energy-saving.Under the direction of circular economy theory, the enhancement of economical utilization of agricultural resources and resource utilization of agricultural wastes has positive effects on improving urban environment:decentralize organic solid wastes from sewage cycle system;further study the physiological and biochemical mechanism of increasing yield and income of ecological agriculture;bring urban agriculture into city land utilization planning and city development planning.
文摘Eco-industry, circular economy, cleaner production, industrial ecology or industrial ecosystem and other subjects are all categories related to sustainable developinent. And circular economy in nature is the complete application of ecological economics theory.

文摘On the strength of the theory of agricultural circular economy, the mutual relation between the development of agricultural circular economy and new village construction is analyzed. The results show that developing agricultural circular economy and constructing new village is the mutual promotion; realizing agricultural circular economy is the main target of new agricultural construction and developing agricultural circular economy is the way of realizing new village construction. The major problems in the development of agricultural circular economy in Qinhuangdao City are pointed out, covering weak ideological foundation of developing agricultural circular economy; inadequate directions from the government and insufficient technical and financial support. The countermeasures on developing agricultural circular economy in new village construction are put forward, including cultivating people's awareness on circular economy; establishing the law and regulation system of agricultural circular economy; intensifying the technical and model innovation of agricultural circular economy and accelerating the maketization pace of agro-products.
文摘Due to recent changing environmental requirements affecting manufacturing operations, increasing attention is given to developing environmental management strategies for the supply chain. This paper discusses the strategies of green supply chain based on the concept of circular economy which was promoted in China as a new development strategy to alleviate the shortage of resource supply by improving the resource productivity and eco-efficiency of production and consumption, which will accelerate the economic transformation from the traditional supply chain to the green supply chain.

文摘Strategies of "guidance to different types of areas, promotion step by step" were given to study the development model of ecotourism circular economy in different types of tourist sites.By taking Luchong Scenic Area by the Fuxian Lake,Yunnan Province for an example, the general model of ecotourism circular economy in lakefront scenic areas was summarized,it was stressed that ecological principles and "5R"(rethinking,reducing,reusing,recycling,repairing)should be followed in its construction.Characteristics of a lakefront scenic area and actual conditions of its location region should be taken into consideration, with sewage treatment and lakefront environment protection as the focus, green scenic area and green tourism community as the carrier,a development model of ecotourism circular economy was established by considering relevant elements such as clean production, green consumption, waste processing, ecological compensation and industrial coupling, effective measures were given to introduce theories into practices, which would be the only chance for the lakefront scenic area realizing its sustainable development.
文摘Consumer type and consumption need are analyzed in this paper. It is recognized that sustainable consumption accords with human's pursuing of well-being. Further, we analyze three types of realization models of sustainable consumption and focus onthe feasibility, realization process and policy measures of product service system.
文摘Based on the brief description of the developmental status of social economy in Jiangsu Province, the index system including 16 indexes contained in 5 subsystems is established according to the statistics from Jiangsu Statistical Yearbook-2009,the practical situation of Jiangsu Province and the connotation of circular economy. The developmental trends of circular economy of 13 prefecture-level cities in Jiangsu Province are comprehensively evaluated by using the improved extreme value treatment, analytic hierarchy process(AHP),comprehensive evaluation of herdsman and comprehensive evaluation model of grey multi-level.The results show that the developmental level of circular economy in Jiangsu Province varies hugely in different areas, the difference of the comprehensive score between the crest value and minimum value is 0.29.In the end,in view of the problems in the development of circular economy, the countermeasures and suggestions on establishing and improving the management of circular economy, the operation and supervision mechanism;accelerating the industrial transformation and intensifying resource saving and comprehensive use of resource.
文摘On August 8, 2005. Hohhot was awarded the title of "Chinese Dairy Capital". Now dairy industry is one of the pillar industries in Hohhot, with strong driving effect to the development of social economy. However; the sustainable development of dairy industry in Hohhot is threatened by rapid scale expansion and restriction of environmental supporting capacity, In accord with the ideas and requirements of the circular economy theory, this paper analyzes dairy industry pattern from two aspects and establishes the industry system. The dairy industry mainly consists of cow breeding and dairy process. The circular economy mnst set about from the two aspects. For the most part, dairy processing should start from the two most key links, namely packing and water using.
