Principles of Landscape Ecology in the Construction of Hydro-ecological Civilized City

Against the backdrop of global urbanization,ecological civilization problems have become increasingly prominent,among which water ecological civilization has been a focus of researches for being closely tied with urban life.Under the context of constructing water ecological civilization,this paper from the perspective of landscape ecological planning analyzed the connection of river and lake water systems,construction of fl ood and water diversion project,water pollution control,water ecological conservation and ecological river construction,based on different water ecological construction objectives;explored how to support landscape planning by fully using landscape ecological principles and landscape indexes;fi nally proposed to design more delicate objective-based landscape indexes and the overall landscape index model for water ecological construction.

Study on The Ecology System of Hani Terraced Paddy Fields

The ecology system of Hani Terraced Paddy Fields is the typical repre-sentative of the ecological agriculture in the southwestern mountainous areas of our country. After long-term development, Hani ecology system has developed, cored by＂forest-vil age-terrace-river＂, including paddy cultivation system, forests and ecologi-cal maintenance, folk culture and construction of water facilities. This research ex-plored the details of the structure and functions of the ecology system of Hani ter-raced fields. And il ustrates that the system is a new model of agriculture ecological civilization and deserves further study and more applications.

In recent years,as China's industrialization process and urban-rural integration strategy have continued to deepen,some industrial and domestic wastewater has been discharged directly into rivers without effective treatment.This has resulted in the continuous accumulation and enrichment of pollutants in water bodies.This phenomenon results in a significant accumulation of heavy metals in the sediment of water bodies,which not only represents a significant threat to the ecological environment but also ultimately poses a risk to human health.The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of the current status of heavy metal pollution in water sediment in China.In addition,this paper analyzes the advantages and limitations of existing techniques for the harmless treatment of heavy metal pollution and forecasts the development direction of this field.

Characteristics and Trends of Urban Waterfront Human Settlements Based on CiteSpace

Urban waterfront human settlements have gradually become a hot topic for research in recent years.Using CiteSpace,597 publications from 2017 to 2023 that were retrieved from the Web of Science were analyzed and sorted out,and the following characteristics were found:(1)The research hotspots transitioned from thermal comfort evaluation to the functional mechanism of water bodies,and then to the impact on the environment and residents’behavior.(2)The integration of disciplines has promoted the diversification of perspectives on urban waterfront human settlements,and the content has become more concentrated in interdisciplinary fields.Research on corresponding technology and methods of urban waterfront human settlement has improved,and so has the extensiveness of the experiments.(3)The research on urban waterfront human settlement from the perspective of ecology has been improving.The research focuses more on the harmonious coexistence of ecological and cultural values and human beings.

Progress of Air Pollution Control in China and Its Challenges and Opportunities in the Ecological Civilization Era

China’s past economic growth has substantially relied on fossil fuels,causing serious air pollution issues.Decoupling economic growth and pollution has become the focus in developing ecological civilization in China.We have analyzed the three-decade progress of air pollution controls in China,highlighting a strategic transformation from emission control toward air quality management.Emission control of sulfur dioxide(SO2)resolved the deteriorating acid rain issue in China in 2007.Since 2013,control actions on multiple precursors and sectors have targeted the reduction of the concentration of fine particulate matter(PM2.5),marking a transition to an air-quality-oriented strategy.Increasing ozone(O3)pollution further requires O3 and PM2.5 integrated control strategies with an emphasis on their complex photochemical interactions.Fundamental improvement of air quality in China,as a key indicator for the success of ecological civilization construction,demands the deep de-carbonization of China’s energy system as well as more synergistic pathways to address air pollution and global climate change simultaneously.

Toward an Ecological Civilization:China’s Progress as Documented by the Second National General Survey of Pollution Sources

The relationship between environmental quality and economic growth has been a hot topic for decades.After years of rapid industrialization and urbanization,China’s environmental challenges are approaching a turning point.Following the principles of ecological civilization construction,China is on its way to maintaining high-quality and green economic development.On 10 June 2020,the Chinese Government reported the key findings of the Second National General Survey of Pollution Sources(fiscal year 2017),which provides strong quantitative evidence of progress toward ecological civilization.In terms of our comparison between the two National General Surveys in 2007 and 2017,it was found that environmental pollution,measured in terms of many wastewater and air emission pollutant discharges,is decreasing despite the steady growth in economic activities—and at a noticeably fast pace.Other national and local governments can adopt some of China’s ecological civilization practices,within their own individual contexts.

It is especially important and urgent in the current times to carry forward soil and water ecological culture.

How does ecological civilization construction affect carbon emission intensity?Evidence from Chinese provinces’panel data

Ecological civilization construction is a new concept and trend in the era of China's high-quality development.It requires the collaborative propulsion of an ecological economic civilization,ecological social civilization,and ecological environment civilization.Reducing carbon emission intensity is an important issue facing the Chinese government in the backdrop of global warming.Thus,studying the influence of ecological civilization construction on carbon emission intensity from different perspectives has important theoretical and practical significance.In this study,the influences of the three subsystems of an ecological civilization on carbon emission intensity are empirically analyzed using Chinese provincial panel data from 2004 to 2016 and a spatial Durbin model based on the STIRPAT model.First,the Moran's I of carbon emission intensity in Chinese provinces was between 0.425 and 0.473.This indicates positive spatial correlation and illustrates that the carbon emission intensity of China's provinces can influence each other.The reasons behind this correlation include close ties between neighboring provinces and similarities in natural,economic,and social characteristics.Second,the correlation coefficients of ecological economic civilization,ecological social civilization,and ecological environment civilization to carbon emission intensity are−4.743139,2.865884,and−0.3246447,respectively.This illustrates that an ecological economic civilization and ecological environment civilization can reduce carbon emission intensity,while an ecological social civilization can increase it.To reduce total carbon emission intensity,the three subsystems of ecological civilization should have a negative relationship with carbon emission intensity,so the effect of ecological social civilization on carbon emission intensity should be changed.Third,the spatial spillover effect of ecological social civilization did not pass the significance test.The correlation coefficients of spatial spillover effect to ecological economic civilization and ecological environment civilization are 2.046531 and−3.238323,respectively.Improving the ecological economic civilization can increase the carbon emission intensity of periphery provinces,while improving the ecological environment civilization can reduce it.Thus,it is necessary to enhance cooperation between periphery provinces and establish a trans-provincial cooperation mechanism for reducing carbon emissions.
