Alternative Assessment:Games for Language Assessment

This paper discusses using game as an alternative assessment approach to test students' language ability in a foreign language class.In all children's eyes,games are fun and"non-serious"activities where they can safely expose themselves.Language teachers can design reasonable games to assess children's abilities in the four components of language competence and get a reliable result.The strengths and weaknesses of game as an assessment way are also mentioned at the end of the paper.

Softw are Maintainability Prediction with UML Class Diagram

Software system can be classified into many function modules from the perspective of user. Unified modeling language( UML) class diagram of each function module was extracted,and design characteristic metrics which influenced software maintainability were selected based on UML class diagram.Choosing metrics of UML class diagram as predictors,and mean maintenance time of function module was regarded as software maintainability parameter. Software maintainability models were built by using back propagation( BP) neural network and radial basis function( RBF) neural network, respectively and were simulated by MATLAB. In order to evaluate the performance of models,the training results were analyzed and compared with leaveone-out cross-validation and model performance evaluation criterion. The result indicated that RBF arithmetic was superior to BP arithmetic in predicting software maintainability.

Consciousness Field Theory and Antihuman Psychology

Against behaviorism,humanism,and cognitive psychology,this work explores Mocombe’s antihuman psychology as a product of his consciousness field theory.The paper critically assesses Mocombe’s consciousness field theory within the larger body of contemporary ontological debates regarding the nature,origin,and constitution of consciousness,especially human consciousness,vis-à-vis their relations to the psychological theories of behaviorism,humanism,and cognitivism,concluding that consciousness field theory posits an alternative psychological theory of the mind,i.e.,antihuman psychology,to behaviorist,humanist,and cognitivist conceptions of the mind.

Gede and Homosexuality

This article argues that the Haitian Vodou spirits(lwas)of fertility and death,Gede,do not promote homosexuality or the fluidity of sexuality in Haitian culture.The latter position is a Western reading of Gede grounded in postmodern and post-structural identity theorizing.Gede in Haitian ontology and epistemology is lwas of fertility and death not sexual identity confusion or fluidity.

Mocombeian Nominalism

This article attempts to outline Paul C.Mocombe’s nominalism as highlighted in his theory of phenomenological structuralism(PS).Mocombe posits that the human mind or consciousness is presented with brute facts and things of the multiverse,which it attempts to reify and universalize through concepts of language and mathematics.So,the facts and things of the world exist irrespective of the human mind,which simply highlights and categorizes them in order to experience being-in-the-world with others and things they encounter.

The Problems of CLT for ESL in Universities in China

Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) has become one of the most important teaching approaches in the fields ofTeaching English to the Speakers of Other Language(TESOL). Not only in the western developed countries, but also in developingcountries, for example, China is also influenced by the approach of CLT in its English as a Second Language(ESL) classes. Particu-larly ESL classes of universities in China have used CLT as an important approach in teaching English speaking, listening, readingand writing. From the previous study and research there are evidences showed that CLT for ESL in universities in China have theiradvantages and values,but the classes still have some problems and need to develop which proved the hypothesis before research.

The Role of Lexis in Developing EFL Learners＇ Speaking Skill

EFL （English as a Foreign Language） speaking is a very demanding skill that requires learners＇ socio-pragmatic as well as strategic competence in any interactional situation, and lexis proves to play a crucial role in this process. However, few studies have investigated how both EFL teachers and learners view and analyze situations in which learners are not producing enough spoken language in class, and the reasons behind them. The present study will pinpoint the significant role of lexis in Moroccan learners＇ speaking production. To this end, 40 EFL teachers and 200 Moroccan high school students are surveyed and interviewed to reveal their perceptions of the speaking skill and the corresponding high significance of lexis in this instance. Results show that both teachers and learners identify vocabulary deficiency as the main factor behind students＇ inability to speak English. In the present paper, among the many suggestions that could be proposed to deal with this situation, it is argued that one efficient way would be to assist the students during the process of L2 （second language） vocabulary learning through vocabulary learning strategy instruction. Pedagogical and research implication will be given in response to the difficulties encountered in this area as have been identified by the EFL teachers and learners surveyed.
