Reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution with two-way classical communication

The data post-processing scheme based on two-way classical communication(TWCC)can improve the tolerable bit error rate and extend the maximal transmission distance when used in a quantum key distribution(QKD)system.In this study,we apply the TWCC method to improve the performance of reference-frame-independent quantum key distribution(RFI-QKD),and analyze the influence of the TWCC method on the performance of decoy-state RFI-QKD in both asymptotic and non-asymptotic cases.Our numerical simulation results show that the TWCC method is able to extend the maximal transmission distance from 175 km to 198 km and improve the tolerable bit error rate from 10.48%to 16.75%.At the same time,the performance of RFI-QKD in terms of the secret key rate and maximum transmission distance are still greatly improved when statistical fluctuations are considered.We conclude that RFI-QKD with the TWCC method is of practical interest.

Accessing Academic Discourse:Systemic Functional Linguistics and Legitimation Code Theory,was edited by J.R.Martin,Karl Maton and Y.J.Doran and published by Routledge in 2020.This volume explores the dialogue with Legitimation Code Theory(LCT)from the viewpoint of systemic functional linguistics(SFL).“Systemic functional linguistics(SFL)is a long-established and widely known approach to understanding language.Legitimation Code Theory(LCT)is a younger and rapidly growing approach to exploring and shaping knowledge practices”(p.1).They have become widely used to access academic discourse by a growing number of systemic scholars and educators.

A Comparative Study on the Meta-functions of Artificial Intelligence and Human Discourse Markers

This study explores the use of discourse markers in AI-generated and human-generated texts, based on Halliday’s metafunctional theory. By analyzing 20 Shanghai college entrance exam essays generated by Baidu’s AI model Wenxinyiyan and comparing them with 20 human-written essays, it is found that both share similar use of discourse markers. However, AI tends to use transitional and topic-follow-up markers more frequently, while human texts show a higher usage of conditional and causal markers. These findings suggest AI’s capacity for maintaining discourse coherence but highlight its limitations in more complex reasoning.

Structure-preserving algorithms for guiding center dynamics based on the slow manifold of classical Pauli particle

The classical Pauli particle(CPP) serves as a slow manifold, substituting the conventional guiding center dynamics. Based on the CPP, we utilize the averaged vector field(AVF) method in the computations of drift orbits. Demonstrating significantly higher efficiency, this advanced method is capable of accomplishing the simulation in less than one-third of the time of directly computing the guiding center motion. In contrast to the CPP-based Boris algorithm, this approach inherits the advantages of the AVF method, yielding stable trajectories even achieved with a tenfold time step and reducing the energy error by two orders of magnitude. By comparing these two CPP algorithms with the traditional RK4 method, the numerical results indicate a remarkable performance in terms of both the computational efficiency and error elimination. Moreover, we verify the properties of slow manifold integrators and successfully observe the bounce on both sides of the limiting slow manifold with deliberately chosen perturbed initial conditions. To evaluate the practical value of the methods, we conduct simulations in non-axisymmetric perturbation magnetic fields as part of the experiments,demonstrating that our CPP-based AVF method can handle simulations under complex magnetic field configurations with high accuracy, which the CPP-based Boris algorithm lacks. Through numerical experiments, we demonstrate that the CPP can replace guiding center dynamics in using energy-preserving algorithms for computations, providing a new, efficient, as well as stable approach for applying structure-preserving algorithms in plasma simulations.

Tailoring Classical Conditioning Behavior in TiO_(2) Nanowires:ZnO QDs-Based Optoelectronic Memristors for Neuromorphic Hardware

Neuromorphic hardware equipped with associative learn-ing capabilities presents fascinating applications in the next generation of artificial intelligence.However,research into synaptic devices exhibiting complex associative learning behaviors is still nascent.Here,an optoelec-tronic memristor based on Ag/TiO_(2) Nanowires:ZnO Quantum dots/FTO was proposed and constructed to emulate the biological associative learning behaviors.Effective implementation of synaptic behaviors,including long and short-term plasticity,and learning-forgetting-relearning behaviors,were achieved in the device through the application of light and electrical stimuli.Leveraging the optoelectronic co-modulated characteristics,a simulation of neuromorphic computing was conducted,resulting in a handwriting digit recognition accuracy of 88.9%.Furthermore,a 3×7 memristor array was constructed,confirming its application in artificial visual memory.Most importantly,complex biological associative learning behaviors were emulated by mapping the light and electrical stimuli into conditioned and unconditioned stimuli,respectively.After training through associative pairs,reflexes could be triggered solely using light stimuli.Comprehen-sively,under specific optoelectronic signal applications,the four features of classical conditioning,namely acquisition,extinction,recovery,and generalization,were elegantly emulated.This work provides an optoelectronic memristor with associative behavior capabilities,offering a pathway for advancing brain-machine interfaces,autonomous robots,and machine self-learning in the future.

Writing AIDS,Deconstructing Politicized Discourses on the Body:AIDS in Post-apartheid South African Novels by Mpe and Mhlongo

HIV/AIDS has been one of the most serious health concerns in South Africa over the past 30 years.Novels such as Welcome to Our Hillbrow,Dog Eat Dog,and After Tears are literary responses to the profound shame and fear inflicted by the epidemic on individuals and society.These AIDS narratives serve as a means to deconstruct politicized discourses about the disease.They scrutinize the stereotype that the voracious sexuality of black men is the primary cause of AIDS and challenges the xenophobic notion of contagious foreigners prevalent in post-apartheid South Africa.Additionally,the novels critically examine and satirize the denialist discourse propagated by incompetent politicians who have failed to contain the virus in post-apartheid South Africa.By representing the conflicting voices surrounding HIV/AIDS,these writings vividly depict the social and political landscape of the era.

The Identity and Discourse in Georgian and Turkey Diplomatic Relations Between 2002-2022

This article’s primary objective is to answer the question of what is the semantic language of identity and interests of Turkey and Georgia?In addition,it analyzes the connotative quotes that exchanged between the two countries during diplomatic visits.Because the article concentrated on the remarks that were stressed during visits and meetings that took place between the years 2002 and 2022,it was necessary to search through 150 news on civil.ge site and filter down to 35 news before applying the content analysis.The AntConc corpus analysis was used in order to comprehend the nature of the political conversation between both countries.According to the findings,the constructivism of core theme that claim states view each other via the identity through interaction was verified.The purpose of the research is to provide a contribution to the study of the identities and interests of Georgia and Turkey who are good neighbors.

The Translation of Allusions in Political Discourse:An Intertextuality Perspective

drawn from ancient classics are the treasures of traditional Chinese culture.The allusions used in Xi Jinping:The Governance of China illustrate a distinctive feature of political discourse,and the publication of its English version provides a valuable opportunity for the study of allusions in translated political discourse.With the English translations of 241 allusions collected from two volumes of the book,we classified these allusions into three categories of history,culture,and literature based on their original sources.Then we analyzed the strategies used in translating the allusions,and provided typical examples to illustrate the use of such translation strategies for each category.Finally,we tried to account for the use of these strategies in light of the intertextuality theory.

Guidance and Application of Chinese Classical Gardens in Modern Gardens

As a representative of Eastern gardens,Chinese classical gardens have always held an extremely important position in world gardens.They not only carry the profound cultural and ideological connotations of China,but also have great aesthetic achievements that are worth exploring.In the process of urbanization,the construction of urban gardens is also progressing rapidly with the development of the city,and modern gardens are reflected more.Gradually,people began to realize that the aesthetics of Chinese classical gardens can collide with the design concepts of modern gardens,in order to conform to the current development trend of the new era.This paper compares and analyzes the differences and connections between Chinese classical gardens and modern gardens from three aspects:gardening concepts,gardening elements,and gardening techniques.Combined with relevant cases,it studies the practical application of Chinese classical garden design techniques in modern gardens,and explores and promotes the art of Chinese classical garden design.

Personification in Chinese Diplomatic Discourse and the Construction of National Identity Based on Corpus:A Case Study of the Regular Press Conference of Ministry of Foreign Affairs

With the development of the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics,diplomatic discourse,as an important part of building China’s international discourse power,has attracted much attention.Personification is a common means in diplomatic discourse.By giving anthropomorphic expressions to countries,regions,institutions and policies,the purpose of building national identity and establishing national image can be achieved.Based on conceptual metaphor theory and national identity theory,this paper focuses on personification in diplomatic discourse with a case study of the regular press conference of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.It is found that the spokesperson skillfully constructed China’s positive national identity,such as peace-loving,openness and inclusiveness by using a large number of body metaphor,kinship metaphor and role metaphor.

Focusing on research perspectives and methods,this paper reviews the main research on discourse analysis about how society affect courtroom discourse in nearly recent 30 years.The research shows that courtroom discourse analysis has a trend of diversified research perspectives and research methods which formerly aimed at the static,single and conventional social factors,now it comes to concern about the dynamic,interactive,and occasional ones.Social behavior theory is an emerging and unique member of it.

Relation and Relationships Between Folk Literature and Classical Literature:Taking Autochthony as a Case Study

According to current discipline classification,folk literature is usually categorized as an individual research field,distinguished from classical literature or classical canon,which leads to the fact that in current research,the study of folk literature is often separated from the study of classical texts,or even opposed to it.This paper intends to review the relations and relationships between the two and argues that,at least,in ancient Greek world of culture,there is a considerable intersection between folk literature and classical literature.In many cases,a myth appeared both in the two literary fields,and thus these two fields were often intertwined and in conversation.Taking Athenian autochthony as a case study,this paper shows that this myth not only appeared as a folk story in daily occasions such as symposium,architecture,and vase painting,but also entered classic texts such as the tragic works of the three great tragedians and even Plato’s philosophical works,becoming one part of“classical literature”.By examining the application of the myth in folk literature and classical literature,it can be seen that in ancient Greece,folk and classical literature not only communicated and borrowed from each other,but also formed a dialogue between the two,thus constructing a lively and living literary world.

Classical Correlations vs Quantum Correlations—Similarities, Differences, Opportunities

Classical Correlations were founded in 1900 by Karl Pearson and have since been applied as a statistical tool in virtually all sciences. Quantum correlations go back to Albert Einstein et al. in 1935 and Erwin Schrödinger’s responses shortly after. In this paper, we contrast classical with quantum correlations. We find that classical correlations are weaker than quantum correlations in the CHSH framework. With respect to correlation matrices, the trace of classical correlation matrices is dissimilar to quantum density matrices. However, the off-diagonal terms have equivalent interpretations. We contrast classical dynamic (i.e., time evolving) stochastic correlation with dynamic quantum density matrices and find that the off-diagonal elements, while different in nature, have similar interpretations. So far, due to the laws of quantum physics, no classical correlations are applied to the quantum spectrum. However, conversely, quantum correlations are applied in classical environments such as quantum computing, cryptography, metrology, teleportation, medical imaging, laser technology, the quantum Internet and more.

Ecological Discourse Analysis Based on the Corpus-A Case Study on the Environmental Discourse of 21st Century

Language learning materials not only provide language input for learners but also subtly disseminate ideology and influence readers’behavior.This study,based on the framework of ecological discourse analysis,quantitatively analyzes and qualitatively describes the ecological significance of environmental texts in the 21st Century.The aim is to provide references for the compilation of environmental discourse in language learning materials,promote the construction of more ecologically beneficial discourse,and facilitate the widespread dissemination of the ecological philosophy of“Diversity and Harmony,Interaction and Co-existence”among young readers.The initial findings of this study are as follows:In the environmental texts of the publication,a large number of relational processes and action processes are used to objectively represent the natural environment;the discourse tends to be ambiguous and beneficial,generally aligning with the ecological philosophy of“Diversity and Harmony,Interaction and Co-existence.”This can guide readers to correctly understand and face environmental issues,which is conducive to the healthy development of natural ecosystems.

Low-carbon living represents both a new lifestyle and an environmental responsibility vital for sustainable development,positioning it as a central theme in environmental public service advertisements(PSAs).This research employs a multimodal discourse analysis approach to examining eight public service posters advocating low-carbon living from Xinhua News Agency,primarily utilizing the visual grammar framework established by Kress and Van Leeuwen.The study explores these posters through three key perspectives:representational meaning,interactive meaning,and compositional meaning.By analyzing the interplay between visual and linguistic modalities,this research contributes to the overall understanding of public service posters and supports the promotion of China’s low-carbon development initiatives.

The Youth’s View of Marriage in Chinese Mainstream Media Discourse-A Corpus-assisted Three-dimensional Discourse Analysis

The rising of aging and the declining of birth rates have forced the public to focus on the youth’s view on marriage.Based on critical discourse analysis and combined with Fairclough’s three-dimensional discourse analysis model,this paper builds a“Chinese media News Report Corpus on the topic of‘marriage’”whose news are collected from China Daily.It is found that the discourses are neutral and objective with regard to the advantages and disadvantages of marriage,but in general,it is still a traditional view of marriage that is inevitable and closely related to fertility.Although this is controlled by the policies and the social reasons including declining fertility rate,it deviates from the current view of the youth towards marriage,resulting in many serious consequences such as young people’s rejection.In addition,this research found that male and female have great differences in their views on marriage,and men’s resistance to marriage is far greater than that of women,which is departure from the public’s cognition.The reasons behind this need to be explored in order to solve the marriage and love problems of young people in today’s era and realize the healthy development of young marriage.

English Translation of Chinese Natural Ecological Discourse:A Corpus-based Case Study on Xi Jinping:The Governance of China

Amid the increasingly severe global natural eco-environment,it is necessary to build a natural ecological civilization by constructing an ecological civilization discourse.Against this background,this study compiles a corpus of natural ecological discourse in the English translation of Xi Jinping:The Governance of China(short for Xi).By using Wordsmith and AntConc,this study explores the linguistic features of the ecological discourse in English translation of Xi in the following dimensions,including high-frequency words,keywords,word collocations,concordance lines.This study aims to analyze the concepts and attitudes towards natural ecology,so as to provide certain valuable insights for the construction of China’s discourse on natural ecological civilization.The study found that the natural ecology discourse involving in the English translation of Xi turned out to be ecologically beneficial.
