Purpose: This paper intends to explore methodologies and indicators for the analysis of overlapping structures and evolution properties in a co-citation network, and provide reference for overlapping structure analysis of other scientific networks.Design/methodology/approach: The Q-value variance is defined to achieve overlapping structures of different levels in the scientific networks. At the same time, analyses for time correlation variance and subject correlation variance are used to present the formation of overlapping structures in scientific networks. As a test, a co-citation network of highly cited papers on Molecular Biology & Genetics from Essential Science Indicator(ESI) is taken as an example for an empirical analysis.Findings: Our research showed that the Q-value variance is effective for achieving the desired overlapping structures. Meanwhile, the time correlation variance and subject correlation variance are equally useful for uncovering the evolution progress of scientific research, and the properties of overlapping structures in the research of co-citation network as well.Research limitations: In this paper, the theoretical analysis and verification of time and subject correlation variances are still at its initial stage. Further studies in this regard need to take actual evolution of research areas into consideration.Practical implications: Evolution properties of overlapping structures pave the way for overlapping and evolution analysis of disciplines or areas, this study is of practical value for the planning of scientific and technical innovation.Originality/value: This paper proposes an analytical method of time correlation variance and subject correlation variance based on the evolution properties of overlapping structures, which would provide the foundation for the evolution analysis of disciplines and interdisciplinary research. 展开更多

Purpose: The evolution of the socio-cognitive structure of the field of knowledge management(KM) during the period 1986–2015 is described. Design/methodology/approach: Records retrieved from Web of Science were submitted to author co-citation analysis(ACA) following a longitudinal perspective as of the following time slices: 1986–1996, 1997–2006, and 2007–2015. The top 10% of most cited first authors by sub-periods were mapped in bibliometric networks in order to interpret the communities formed and their relationships.Findings: KM is a homogeneous field as indicated by networks results. Nine classical authors are identified since they are highly co-cited in each sub-period, highlighting Ikujiro Nonaka as the most influential authors in the field. The most significant communities in KM are devoted to strategic management, KM foundations, organisational learning and behaviour, and organisational theories. Major trends in the evolution of the intellectual structure of KM evidence a technological influence in 1986–1996, a strategic influence in 1997–2006, and finally a sociological influence in 2007–2015.Research limitations: Describing a field from a single database can offer biases in terms of output coverage. Likewise, the conference proceedings and books were not used and the analysis was only based on first authors. However, the results obtained can be very useful to understand the evolution of KM research.Practical implications: These results might be useful for managers and academicians to understand the evolution of KM field and to(re)define research activities and organisational projects.Originality/value: The novelty of this paper lies in considering ACA as a bibliometric technique to study KM research. In addition, our investigation has a wider time coverage than earlier articles. 展开更多

This study draws a historical picture of conceptual linkages of innovation systems(IS)and global value chains(GVC).We used a co-citation technique to map the evolution of these two fields since 1990.We highlighted the connecting nodes over the past three decades.The first decade witnessed a connection between national innovation systems(NIS)and GVC,mediated by regional studies related to industrial clusters and district-based innovation.The tradeoff between tacit sticky local and codified transferable global knowledge and innovation and learning's importance in upgrading in GVC generated two new routes in the second decade.In the last decade,although these routes are retained,their mediating nodes have changed with the literature on technology and sustainable transition from IS and the path dependency role in the evolution of districts in global production networks.Recent trends indicate that evolutionary views on economic geography and catch-up may open new opportunities to link the two,and some lessons highlight the need for more structured interactions in the future. 展开更多

As the number of diabetics increases worldwide,the amount of research so as to bibliometric re-search on diabetes is also growing.In order to review the existing research on diabetes from a macro perspective and to remedy the lack of attention given to conference papers,this paper collected a total of 67,104 diabetes-related conference papers on the theme of"diabetes"up to 23 October 2020 in the core collection of Web of Science.Tools for bibliometric analysis include Citespace and vosviewer and other tools such as Excel and Origin are applied for statistical analysis and visualization of the results.Consequently,publication trend,document co-citation,journal co-citation and author co-citation are analyzed based on these papers,and core docu-ments,journals and authors are identified.This study not only shows the current situation of a-cademic conferences related to diabetes research but also,to a certain extent,reveals the devel-opment of the diabetes research situation in the whole field.Meanwhile,this study quantitatively analyzed the intellectual base on diabetes,which can be an illustration of the benefits of biblio-metric analysis as a tool in scientific research. 展开更多

Scientometric of Nearly Zero Energy Building Research: A Systematic Review from the Perspective of Co-Citation Analysis

As an important building type to diminish energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the construction industry, nearly zero energy building(nZEB) has attracted much attention from many scholars, with volumes of research findings published. However, quantitative and systematic reviews on those findings are rarely conducted by researchers. Therefore, a visualized presentation regarding the advancement of nZEB research was made in this study by applying the scientometric method of co-citation analysis to 704 publications retrieved from the Web of Science database from 2006 to 2018. Here, the key conclusions drawn after the research are as follows:(1) Italy, the USA and Spain are the top three nations by the number of nZEB publications;(2) Energy and Buildings, Applied Energy and Energy are the journals with the highest number of published nZEB articles;(3) Politecnico di Milano, Aalto University and Politecnico di Torino are the most influential core organizations in the field of nZ EB;(4) Professor Kurnitski J, Professor Corgnati SP and Professor D’Agostino D are the leading nZEB experts;(5) "cost optimal", "life cycle assessment", "technical system", "design" and "indoor environment quality" are the major research directions in the field of nZEB;(6) A multi-stage optimization method for cost-optimal and nearly zero-energy building solutions in line with the EPBD 2010, co-authored by Hamdy M, is the most cited nZEB reference;(7) "residential building", "building energy saving technology", "simulation method" and "thermal comfort", etc. are the hot topics in nZEB research at present and in the future. This article aims to provide reference for medicine-engineering interdisciplinary research.Targeted at the scientific literature and patent literature published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University,this article attempts to set up co-occurrence matrix of medicine-engineering institutional information which was extracted from address fields of the papers,so as to construct the medicine-engineering intersection datasets.The dataset of scientific literature was analyzed using bibliometrics and visualization methods from multiple dimensions,and the most active factors,such as trends of output,journal and subject distribution,were identified from the indicators of category normalized citation impact(CNCI),times cited,keywords,citation topics and the degree of medicineengineering interdisplinary.Research on hotspots and trends was discussed in detail.Analyses of the dataset of patent literature showed research themes and measured the degree for technology convergence of medicineengineering. 展开更多

目的采用科学计量学的方法,对限时进食(time-restricted feeding,TRF)的知识领域、发展趋势和研究重点进行分析,以期为进一步的研究提供参考。方法收集1991年1月1日—2021年5月29日在web of science核心合集数据库中以"time restri... 目的采用科学计量学的方法,对限时进食(time-restricted feeding,TRF)的知识领域、发展趋势和研究重点进行分析,以期为进一步的研究提供参考。方法收集1991年1月1日—2021年5月29日在web of science核心合集数据库中以"time restricted feeding"或"time restricted eating"或"time restricted fasting"或"time restricted diet"或"time restricted meal"为主题的研究型文献,使用Excel 2016对文献数据进行分析,包括发表数量、期刊分类、影响因子、发表年份。利用CiteSpace V进行一系列文献特征聚类,包括作者共被引分析、文献引文共被引(reference co-citation analysis,RCA)和突发关键词分析。结果158种学术期刊共收录TRF文献298篇,瑞士《Nutrients》杂志发表TRF文章最多(34篇,占比11.37%)。在48个国家中,美国以126篇排名第一,且中介中心性最高(0.96),美国的Salk Inst Biol Studies机构发文量最高(21篇)。在352位作者中,Panda发表了23篇文章,排名第一。集群RCA显示,第一个集群是"#0 time",其次是"#1 time-restricted eating";时间轴视图显示,"#1 time-restricted eating"的时间跨度最接近今天;"减少用餐频率对氧化应激的影响"是2020年以来最强烈的突发话题。结论1991—2021年TRF相关文章发表数量出现短时间急剧增加。美国在该领域处于领先地位,聚集了一批尖端人才和高水平的科研机构。TRF对人体生物节律和氧化应激的影响是目前TRF研究的热点。 展开更多

Blockchain has been receiving growing attention from both academia and practices.This paper aims to investigate the research status of blockchain-related studies and to analyze the development and evolution of this latest hot area via bibliometric analysis.We selected and explored 2451 papers published between 2013 and 2019 from the Web of Science Core Collection database.The analysis considers different dimensions,including annual publications and citation trends,author distribution,popular research themes,collaboration of countries(regions)and institutions,top papers,major publication journals(conferences),supportive funding agencies,and emerging research trends.The results show that the number of blockchain literature is still increasing,and the research priorities in blockchain-related research shift during the observation period from bitcoin,cryptocurrency,blockchain,smart contract,internet of thing,to the distributed ledger,and challenge and the inefficiency of blockchain.The findings of this research deliver a holistic picture of blockchain research,which illuminates the future direction of research,and provides implications for both academic research and enterprise practice. 展开更多

Non-patent references(NPRs)play an important role in the interaction between science and technology.In this contribution,we compare the characteristics of NPRs traced from patents on"metabolic engineering"to those received by the 10%most-cited articles(cited in scientific publications and excluding NPRs)in the same field.We observe that there is a low rate of co-citing articles between the two groups,and many NPRs have a better citation performance than TOP 10%articles.Our results provide preliminary clues to discover new characteristics of NPRs and to better understand the interface between science and technology. 展开更多
