Wetting front migration model of ion-adsorption rare earth during the multi-hole unsaturated liquid injection

In the process of ion-adsorption rare earth ore leaching,the migration characteristics of the wetting front in multi-hole injection holes and the influence of wetting front intersection effect on the migration distance of wetting fronts are still unclear.Besides,wetting front migration distance and leaching time are usually required to optimize the leaching process.In this study,wetting front migration tests of ionadsorption rare earth ores during the multi-hole fluid injection(the spacing between injection holes was 10 cm,12 cm and 14 cm)and single-hole fluid injection were completed under the constant water head height.At the pre-intersection stage,the wetting front migration laws of ion-adsorption rare earth ores during the multi-hole fluid injection and single-hole fluid injection were identical.At the postintersection stage,the intersection accelerated the wetting front migration.By using the Darcy’s law,the intersection effect of wetting fronts during the multi-hole liquid injection was transformed into the water head height directly above the intersection.Finally,based on the Green-Ampt model,a wetting front migration model of ion-adsorption rare earth ores during the multi-hole unsaturated liquid injection was established.Error analysis results showed that the proposed model can accurately simulate the infiltration process under experimental conditions.The research results enrich the infiltration law and theory of ion-adsorption rare earth ores during the multi-hole liquid injection,and this study provides a scientific basis for optimizing the liquid injection well pattern parameters of ion-adsorption rare earth in situ leaching in the future. 展开更多

Rare earth compounds as modifiers used widely in modern friction materials can enhance the interfacial binding of constituents of materials and improve the comprehensive properties of materials evidently. However, there are still few reports on application of rare earth in automotive friction materials. In order to study the effect mechanism of rare earths in friction materials, a rare earth compound was selected as additive and the effects of materials doped with or without rare earth on friction and wear properties of materials were studied. The microstructure and worn surface morphology were observed by scanning electron microscopy and the macro performance was discussed. Worn surface element constitution of materials was analyzed by energy dispersive spectroscopy. Effect mechanism of rare earths on friction and wear behaviors of friction materials were discussed. The results show that doping rare earths in friction materials can stabilize friction coefficient, lower the wear rate of materials and increase the impact strength of materials. The flexibility and fracture resistance of materials is greatly improved. Worn surface of materials doped with rare earth is compact and the surface adhesion is greatly enhanced. 展开更多

Meanwhile, rare earth ions were used to dope in the course of reaction, and stable suspensions was produced by putting PMMA wrapped microcapsule powder doped with rare earths into methy silicon oil. It is found that its electrorheological (ER) effect improves strikingly after loading electric field. At a certain concentration, the immediate viscosity increases from 95 to 178 Pa·s compared to the system without doping. 展开更多

The optimum coating composition of alkali Fe powder welding rods was designed by orthogonal experiment with mix rates. A new kind of effective RE-Fe powder welding rod was prepared which could be used at the condition of direct and indirect current. The arc characteristics and stabilities of effective Fe powder welding rods containing RE were analyzed by HANNOVER analyzer. The efficiency of Fe powder welding rods was tested by weighting method. It was found that the stability of Fe powder welding rods was improved when it was added with rare earths. The results of impact experiment at low temperatures and SEM analysis on impact break showed that the grain was refined, the welding joint was cleaned, and the mechanical properties of joint was enhanced with proper RE content. It was provided with good processing property for this effective RE-Fe powder welding rod, and its efficiency could arrive at 180%. 展开更多

The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in many rare earth (RE) based intermetallic compounds has been extensively in- vestigated during the last two decades, not only due to their potential applications for magnetic refr... The magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in many rare earth (RE) based intermetallic compounds has been extensively in- vestigated during the last two decades, not only due to their potential applications for magnetic refrigeration but also for better understanding of the fundamental problems of the materials. This paper reviews our recent progress on studying the magnetic properties and MCE in some binary or ternary intermetallic compounds of RE with low boiling point metal(s) (Zn, Mg, and Cd). Some of them exhibit promising MCE properties, which make them attractive for low temperature magnetic refrigeration. Characteristics of the magnetic transition, origin of large MCE, as well as the potential application of these compounds are thoroughly discussed. Additionally, a brief review of the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties in the quaternary rare earth nickel boroncarbides RENi2B2C superconductors is also presented. 展开更多

Ameliorating the problem of low leaching efficiency,long leaching period,and high agent consumption should be studied to efficiently exploit ion-absorbed rare earth ore resources.In this study,the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) is used to enhance the leaching effect of an ion-absorbed rare earth ore by ameliorating the seepage effect for the first time.The effects of surfactant concentration,leaching agent dosage,solution flow velocity,and solution pH on the leaching rate were explored,and the mechanism of SDS was discussed.Under the optimum conditions,the addition of a small amount of SDS(mass fraction0.04%) can increase the leaching rate by about 5%,shorten the leaching period,and reduce the consumption of the leaching agent.SDS significantly ameliorates the seepage effect of the ore body by reducing the surface tension of the leaching agent and ameliorating the wettability of the mineral surface.This effect is the main factor that improves the leaching efficiency.DFT(density functional theory) calculation results show that SDS can react with rare earth ions,which reduces the adsorption strength on clay mineral surfaces.Hence,rare earth ions are easily exchanged by ammonium ions,and mass transfer is enhanced. 展开更多

Ce0.6Zr0.3RE0.1O2(RE = Y, La, Pr, Tb)solid solutions were prepared by co-precipitation technique and characterized by a series of methods. XRD and FT-Raman results show that Ce0.6Zr0.3RE0.1O2 has cubic fluorite structure. The different dopant ion radii bring different effect on the cell parameter of Ce0.6Zr0.3RE0 1O2. The X-ray photoelectron spec-troscopy (XPS) results show that the binding energy of Ce3d, Zr3d and O1s for Ce0.6Zr0.3RE0.1O2 rises compared with that for Ce0.6Zr0.4O2, indicating that dopant elements change chemistry environment of solid solutions which is available to improve redox performance. Compared with Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.4O2, doping Y and La does not change air/fuel (A/F) characteristic of TWCs, but doping Pr and Tb widens A/F operating window and makes HC, CO and NO have higher conversion. The light-off temperature of Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.3La0.1O2 is corresponding to that of Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.4O2. However, the light-off temperatures of Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.3M0.1O2(M = Y, Pr, Tb) are lower than that of Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.4O2, which keep much lower after high temperature treatments. Among Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.3RE0.1 O2, Pd/Ce0.6Zr0.3Tb0.1 O2 represents wider A/F operating window, higher conversion, lower light-off temperature and better high-temperature resistance. 展开更多

A kind of suspensions with notable ER effect was produced by fully mixing the prepared microcapsule with silicon oil. Meanwhile a series of PMMA wrapped alumina-siloxane gel doped with rare earths was obtained and its ER effect was tested, like viscosity of different rare earth ion doped samples in different powder concentrations and at different temperatures, at the same time, leak current density and dielectric constant were measured. Results show that the ER effect of this suspension is remarkable, and its stability is much better. The condition of emulsion polymerization and the mechanism of effect are discussed. 展开更多

The doping effects of rare earth oxides Ho_2O_3 and Er_2O_3 on dielectric properties of BaTiO_3-based ceramics were studied. After adding rare earth elements, grain growth in this system was inhibited and the grain size was reduced evidently which realized the fine-grained effect. In this system, the trivalent oxides Ho_2O_3 and Er_2O_3 were added to BaTiO_3 ceramics. The rare earth oxides do not enter into inner lattice totally to replace A or B sites. Some of additives can improve dielectric strength by forming nonferroelectric phases, and the rest maintained at grain boundaries controls overgrowth of grains. The dielectric constant at room temperature is increased up to 3000 and the curve of TCC becomes flat. Meanwhile, the dielectric strength E_b becomes higher. 展开更多

The amounts of rare earth in the solid solution in steel 16Mn were determined by means of inductive coupling plasma(ICP)spectroscopy.While the RE/S ratio was less than 1.9,the amounts of rare earth in solid solution were not more than 8 ppm,which rised slightly with the increase of the rare earth content in the steel.While the RE/S was more than 1.9,MnS disappeared completely in the steel and the amounts of rare earth in solid solution increased rapidly with the increasing of the rare earth content.The solubility of cerium in steel 16 Mn(St 52)is less than 0.011 wt% at room temperature.The results also indicate that rare earth in solid solution can reduce the amount of pearlite and increase that of ferrite and its mierohardness.The rela- tionship between microhardness(Hv)and the amount of rare earth in solid solution can be expressed by the equation of Hv=117+7 RE(ppm). 展开更多

A new approach was proposed for grouping separation of 14 lanthanide rare-earth ions from their coexisting mixed aqueous solutions, by performing liquid-column elution using the aqueous solution containing 14 lanthanide rare-earth ions as the stationary phase and the dispersed organic oil droplets containing P507 extractant as the mobile phase. It was revealed that 14 lanthanide rare-earth ions could be separated into four groups, according to the lanthanide tetrad effect, respectively eluting out from the liquid column at different time in a certain order. Various effects including the saponification degree of P507, the concentration of P507 in organic phase, the length and inner diameter of the extraction column on the performance of grouping separation of rare-earth ions were discussed. The changes of the mass transfer coefficients were also investigated. The separation efficiency of the four groups of rareearth elements(REEs) was evaluated based on the elution resolution, Rs, of the elution peaks of La(Ⅲ),Gd(Ⅲ), Ho(Ⅲ) and Lu(Ⅲ), the four representative elements respectively from each of the four groups of REEs. Experimental results demonstrated that the separation of REEs by liquid-column elution mainly depended on the competitive adsorption of different rare-earth groups onto the surface of ascending P507 oil droplets. The affinity of different rare-earth groups with P507 extractant and a limited adsorption capacity of P507 molecules at the surface of the oil droplets ascending in liquid column play the important role. The present work highlights a promising technique for grouping separation of multiple lanthanide elements co-existing complex systems. 展开更多

The effect of rare earth element on the solidification behavior of Al-Mg alloy was investigated in a directional solidification apparatus.It was found that during the solidification process.the rare earth element segregated in the liquid at sold-liquid interface,changed the solidification morphology and reduced the secondary arm spacing markedly. 展开更多

The apparent and thermodynamic extraction equilibrium constants and the solubility parameters of the extraction complexes were obtained. The relationship between apparent equilibrium constants Kex and the physical parameters of solvents can be derived. The results indicated that the different solvents affect the apparent extraction equilibrium constants. The solubility parameters of the extraction complexes are nearly the same and not sensitive to rare earth ions. 展开更多
