Poly (vinyl butyral) (PVB) hollow fiber membranes were fabricated via thermally induced phase separation (TIPS). The effects of coagulation bath temperature (CBT) on the structure and performance of membranes were investigated in detail. The morphologies of the membranes were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the performances of water permeability, rejection, breaking strength and elongation were measured, respectively. The results indicate that all the membranes have the asymmetric morphology and the thickness of the skin layer decreases and the pore size of the outer layer increases with the increase of CBT. The permeability of membranes prepared at air gap 1.0 cm and take-up speed 0.253 m/s increases from 1.047×10-7 to 5.909×10-7 m3/(m2·s-kPa) with the CBT increasing from 20 ℃ to 40℃, and sharply increases to 35.226×10 7 m3/(m2.s.kPa)once the CBT arrives at 50 ℃. While the carbonic ink rejections have no significant decrease, totally exceed 98%, but that of acid-maleic acid copolymer greatly decreases with the increase of CBT. Both the breaking strength and elongation decrease with the increase of CBT. 展开更多

Polyphenylsulfone(PPSU)ultrafiltration membrane with different structures was prepared by nonsolvent-induced phase separation. The effects of coagulation bath conditions(concentration and temperature)on membrane morphology, pure water flux, pore size, porosity, and contact angle were studied and discussed based on ternary-phase diagrams. Results indicated that water had stronger coagulant power than ethanol, and that the morphology of the membrane prepared from the polyphenylsulfone/1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone/H_(2)O(PPSU/NMP/H_(2)O)system had finger-like structures.Conversely,sponge-like structures were observed for the PPSU/NMP/(NMP-H_(2)O)and PPSU/NMP/(70 NMP-EtOH-H_(2)O)systems.Ethanol also greatly influenced on membrane structures.According to the Scanning electronic microscopy(SEM)image, the composition(mass fraction)of casting solution is 16%PPSU-84%NMP and the coagulation bath consisting of 70%NMP-26%H_(2)O-4%C_(2)H_(5)OH.Meanwhile,the PPSU ultrafiltration membrane with spong-like was prepared under 8℃coagulation bath. The formation of sponge-like structure reduces the pure water flux of ppsu membrane from 488.39 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1)to 36.04 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1).It also reduces the gas permeability, porosity, and pore size of the membrane. The addition of ethanol and NMP into the coagulation bath increases the roughness of the PPSU ultrafiltration membrane and reduces the hydrophilicity of the membrane. 展开更多

The coagulation bath system of carbon fiber precursor is a complicated and multivariable coupling system. Based on the model of industrial production, the full dynamic decoupling control of the coagulation bath system of carbon fiber precursor is achieved in combination with multivariable feed-forward-like decoupling and proportional-integral-differential( PID) control. Compared with the conventional PID decoupling control, the experiment results show that the proposed method has a better control effect. The use of the controller can achieve complete decoupling of three parameters from coagulation bath system. The method should have great applications. 展开更多

The dual-bath coagulation method was used for the preparation of PES membrane in this experiment. The main intent of this stndy was to assess the efforts of gelation conditions on the structures and properties. The dense top layer as well as porous supporting layer can be made by duel-bath coagulation method simultaneous- ly. Different internal quench medium obtained different membrane with different structures. With the increase in time in the first coagulation bath, pure water flux decreased and the clearance rates of urea and creatinine both first increased then decreased and increased slightly in the end. With the temperature of the second coagtdation bath increasing, pure water flux increases and the clearance rates of urea and creatinine first increases then de- creases and increases a little at last. Higher DMSO concentration (wt/wt) in the second coagulation bath results in the increase of pure water flux and the decrease of urea & creatinine clearance rates. 展开更多

Through the preparation of PVDF membranes using various nonsolvent coagulation baths following the phase inversion process, the influence of alcohol-based nonsolvents on the formation and structure of PVDF membranes were investigated. The light scattering and light transmission measurements were used to characterize the equilibrium phase diagram and the gelation speed, respectively. The locations of the crystallization-induced gelation boundaries for various systems and precipitation processes were explained from the corresponding thermodynamic and kinetic parameters. It was found that the better affinity between alcohol-based nonsolvents and DMAc solvent caused the gelation boundaries further away from the PVDF-DMAc axis with the coagulation bath varying from water, methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. Due to the lower exchange rate of DMAc and alcohols, the delayed demixing took place for the membrane-forming using alcohols as baths, and the delayed time became longer when the coagulation bath was changed from methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. The characterization results of membranes indicate that the influence of nonsolvents on the phase diagram and the precipitation process are in agreement with those on the membrane morphology. The better thermodynamic stability and a low exchange diffusion rate of PVDF/DMAc/alcohols favor the liquid-solid phase separation in gelation process, and therefore yield the membranes with a porous upper surface, a particular bottom surface and symmetrical structure. 展开更多

To control the morphology of cellulose membranes used for separation, they were prepared by the NMMO method using water, methanol, ethanol and their binary solution as coagulation baths.Morphologies of the surface and cross section of dry membranes were observed. The pore structure parameters of wet membranes were determined.By comparison, the process and mechanism of pore formation in dry membranes were suggested, and the relativity of cellulose crystal size to average pore diameter in wet membranes and their influences were discussed. The results show that the morphology of dry membranes is clearly varied with coagulation baths, while the porosity of wet membranes is almost constant.Porous structures can appear in the compact region of dry membranes due to swelling from water. These pores have a virtual effect on the average pore diameter of wet membranes.By changing the composition of coagulation baths, the microstructure of cellulose membranes in a dry or wet environment can be adjusted separately. 展开更多
