Experimental Study on Denitrification Using Coated Electrode of Immobilized Denitrifying Bacteria

Objective To develop a coated electrode of immobilized denitrificants and to evaluate the performance of a bioelectrochemical reactor to enhance and control denitrification, Methods Denitrifying bacteria were developed by batch incubation and immobilized with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on the surface of activated carbon fiber (ACF) to make a coated electrode. Then the coated electrode (cathode) and graphite electrode (anode) were transferred to the reactor to reduce nitrate. Results After acclimated to the mixtrophic and autotrophic denitrification stages, the denitrifying bacteria could use hydrogen as an electron donor to reduce nitrate, When the initial nitrate concentration was 30.2 mg NO3-N/L, the denitrification efficiency was 57.3% at an applied electric current of 15 mA and a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 12 hours. Correspondingly, the current density was 0.083 mA / cm^2. The nitrate removal rate of the reactor was 34,4 g NO3-N / m^3,d, and the surface area loading was 1.34 g NO3-N / m^2.d. Conclusion The coated electrode may keep high quantity of blomass, thus achieving a high denitrification rate. In this paper, the droplet transfer behavior of the stainless steel coated electrode with double layer coating is researched by means of those experimental methods, such as high speed camera, collecting droplet in water, surfacing on the steel plate et al. The results show that the droplet transfer indexes of coated electrode are mainly controlled by the size of droplet, which affects the transfer behavior of droplet. The distribution characteristic of the droplet size of the electrode affects the numerical relationship among droplet transfer indexes. The metallurgical process of the coated electrode with double layer coating is carried out continuously in different zones. The main reason for the coated electrode with double layer coating gaining excellent usability quality is that the droplets realize the 'quasi flux wall guided transfer pattern'. 展开更多

The purpose of this research was to fmd out effectiveness of chloride solid membrane electrode of coated wire system compared to solid membrane electrode of composite system, the Nernstian response and character's potential response (detection limit, selectivity and response time). The chloride ISEs (ion selective electrodes) in this research were the solid membrane chloride ISEs based AgC1. There were two types of chloride ISEs that were developed, namely the chloride ISEs of coated wire and composite systems. Both types of electrodes were characterized. The selectivity was done by comparing Esel of the chloride standard solutions and Esel of the interference ions (Br- and I-). The measurement of chloride ions in water samples was done by using the coated wire chloride ISE, the composite chloride ISE and the Mohr method. We compared the result of the two chloride ISE methods to that of standard method for chloride determination (Mohr) by using F-test and Post Hoc Test LSD (least significant difference) and Duncan. Analysis by using F-test and Post Hoc Test (LSD and Duncan) and characterization results of both the methods showed that coated wire chloride ISE was more effective compared to composite chloride ISE. Nemstian response was 59.83 mV/decade, linier range measurement was 10-1-10-5 M, limit detection was 1.23 × 10-5 M, response time along was 25 s and interfering ion was 10-4 M Br-. 展开更多

Electrochemical Determination of Dapoxetine HCI in Biological Fluids Using Coated Wire Electrode

Coated wire sensor for potentiometric determination ofDAP (dapoxetine HCI) in pure form and in biological fluidsbased on DAP-TPB (dapoxetine-tetraphenyl borate) as the sensing element in the presence of DOP (dioctylphthalate) as the plasticizing solvent mediator was prepared. The best performance was obtained with a membrane composition of 10.0% (w/w) ion-pair, 45.0% DOP (w/w) and 45.0% PVC (w/w). The electrode showed a Nemstian response (with a slope of 58.70 mV decade-1) for the concentration range of 4.2 × 10-5-1.0 ×10-2 mol/L. It illustrates a relatively fast response time in the whole concentration range (-15 s) in a pH range of 3.0-7.5. The selectivity coefficients were determined in relation to several inorganic and organic species. DAP is determined successfully in pure solutions and in biological fuids using the standard additions and petentiometric titrations methods. 展开更多

Aqueous sodium-ion batteries are known for poor rechargeability because of the competitive water decomposition reactions and the high electrode solubility.Improvements have been reported by saltconcentrated and organic-hybridized electrolyte designs,however,at the expense of cost and safety.Here,we report the prolonged cycling of ASIBs in routine dilute electrolytes by employing artificial electrode coatings consisting of NaX zeolite and NaOH-neutralized perfluorinated sulfonic polymer.The as-formed composite interphase exhibits a molecularsieving effect jointly played by zeolite channels and size-shrunken ionic domains in the polymer matrix,which enables high rejection of hydrated Na^(+)ions while allowing fast dehydrated Na^(+)permeance.Applying this coating to electrode surfaces expands the electrochemical window of a practically feasible 2 mol kg^(-1) sodium trifluoromethanesulfonate aqueous electrolyte to 2.70 V and affords Na_(2)MnFe(CN)_(6)//NaTi_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) full cells with an unprecedented cycling stability of 94.9%capacity retention after 200 cycles at 1 C.Combined with emerging electrolyte modifications,this molecular-sieving interphase brings amplified benefits in long-term operation of ASIBs. 展开更多

By means of high-speed photograph and synchronous oscillograph, the appearance and technical features of non-explosive short circuiting transfer using basic electrodes are investigated, and the conditions to form this metal transfer mode are discussed. It is shown that the metal transfer mode has its high frequency of droplet, short period of arc extinguishing and long arc igniting period. This metal transfer mode is expected for basic electrodes for its less spatter and higher deposition efficiency. 展开更多

The goal of this study was to develop and design a composite proton exchange membrane(PEM) and membrane electrode assembly(MEA) that are suitable for the PEM based water electrolysis system. In particular,it focuses on the development of sulphonated polyether ether ketone(SPEEK) based membranes and caesium salt of silico-tungstic acid(Cs Si WA) matrix compared with one of the transition metal oxides such as titanium dioxide(TiO2), silicon dioxide(SiO2) and zirconium dioxide(ZrO2). The resultant membranes have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, ion exchange capacity(IEC), water uptake and atomic force microscopy. Comparative studies on the performance of MEAs were also conducted utilizing impregnation-reduction and conventional brush coating methods. The PEM electrolysis performance of SPEEK-Cs Si WA-ZrO2 composite membrane was more superior than that of other membranes involved in this study. Electrochemical characterization shows that a maximum current density of 1.4 A/cm^2 was achieved at 60 °C, explained by an increased concentration of protonic sites available at the interface. 展开更多

The differential potentiometric stripping analysis (DPSA) with Nafion coated carbon fibre electrode has been studied, and a method to determine lead and cadmium in urine directly has been attempted. The effect of various experimental parameters on the DPSA response is discussed. The experimental conditions include 0.2M sodium perchlorate, deposition potential of-1.0 or -1.1 V and using 20 ppm mercuric ion as oxidizing agent. The response of the signal is in linear relation with the concentrations of lead and cadmium respectively up to 0.5 ppm. The electrode coated with Nafion film alleviates the interference from organics in urine samples. 展开更多

ZnO films coated with reduced graphene oxide(RGO-ZnO) were prepared by a simple chemical approach. The graphene oxide(GO) films transferred onto ZnO films by spin coating were reduced to RGO films by two steps(exposed to hydrazine vapor for 12 h and annealed at 600 °C). The crystal structures, electrical and photoluminescence properties of RGO-ZnO films on quartz substrates were systematically studied. The SEM images illustrated that RGO layers have successfully been coated on the ZnO films very tightly. The PL properties of RGO-ZnO were studied. PL spectra show two sharp peaks at 390 nm and a broad visible emission around 490 nm.The resistivity of RGO-ZnO films was measured by a Hall measurement system, RGO as nanofiller considerably decrease the resistivity of ZnO films. An electrode was fabricated, using RGO-ZnO films deposited on Si substrate as active materials, for super capacitor application. By comparison of different results, we conclude that the RGOZnO composite material couples possess the properties of super capacitor. 展开更多

With low cost and high safety,aqueous zinc-based batteries have received considerable interest.Nevertheless,the excess utilization of zinc metal in the anodes of these batteries reduces energy density and increases costs.Herein,an ultrathin electrode of approximately 6.2μm thick is constructed by coating Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)/nanocellulose hybrid onto a stainless steel foil.This electrode is used as the Zn-free anode for aqueous hybrid Zn-Na battery,in which,a concentrated electrolyte is used to improve electrochemical reversibility.The Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)/nanocellulose coating is found to improve the electrolyte wettability,facilitate desolvation process of hydrated Zn^(2+) ions,lower nucleation overpotential,improve zinc plating kinetics,guide horizontal zinc plating along the Zn(002)facet,and inhibit parasitic side reactions.It is also found that the Na_(3)V_(2)(PO_(4))_(3) cathode material adopts a highly reversible Zn^(2+)/Na^(+)co-intercalation charge storage mechanism in this system.Thanks to these benefits,the assembled hybrid Zn-Na battery exhibits excellent rate capability,superior cyclability,and good anti-freezing ability.This work provides a new concept of electrode design for electrochemical energy storage. 展开更多

Potentiometric electrodes were developed for the rapid determination of proguanil hydrochloride in pure samples, pharmaceutical preparations and spiked serum and urine samples using PVC membrane,screen printed(SPE), coated wired(CWE), carbon paste(CPE) and modified carbon paste(MCPE)electrodes based on the ion-exchanger of proguanil with phosphotungestic acid(Pr-PT) as a chemical modifier. The prepared electrodes showed Nernestian slopes of 59.7, 58.1, 58.5, 58.5 and 57.0 for the PVC,SPE, CWE, CPE and MCPE for the proguanil ions in a wide concentration range of 1.0 * 10^-5–1.0 * 10^-2mol L^-1 at 25°C with detection limits of 7.94 * 10^-6, 1.0 * 10^-5, 1.0 * 10^-6, 7.07 * 10^-6 and 2.5 * 10^-6 mol L^-1, respectively. The prepared electrodes exhibited high proguanil selectivity in relation to several inorganic ions and sugars and they could be successfully utilized for its determination in pure solutions, pharmaceutical preparations and serum and urine samples using the direct potentiometry and standard addition methods with very good recovery values. 展开更多
