The Causes and Applications of Code Switching Between Chinese and English in Social Intercourse

This paper examines the phenomenon of code switching between Chinese and English in China.It explores the causes,types,and applications of code switching,as well as the public’s attitudes towards it.The paper distinguishes between pathological and non-pathological code switching,and analyzes the corpus of code switching in Hong Kong.It also discusses how English as a dominant language affects the perception and use of code switching.The paper suggests that code switching is not only a linguistic but also an emotional process,and that speakers and listeners should be aware of their audience group when using code switching.

Psychological motives of code switching

Code switching is an important research topic in a selection of academic fields including sociology, psychology and linguistics. Generally speaking, code switching, a common phenomenon in language contact, permeates bilingual and multilingual society. It refers to circumstances in which a speaker uses two or more than two languages. This paper is intended to present an overall review of studies on code switching, focusing on motive. Code switching combines the social situation with the linguistic situation, in contrast to the different cultures in the speaker＇s cognitive structure. It has social functions that can change the social situation, which in turn sets up a new one. In conversation, code switching also reflects the speaker＇s psychological state and his/her attitude towards a certain language or languages. This paper will focus on the analysis of socio-psychological factors which exert strong influences upon code switching.

Teachers' Code Switching in EFL Classroom

In theory, language teaching today should be entirely monolingual—using target language as the medium of instruction. However, teachers’code switching is common in EFL/ESL classroom which can be 'evidenced along the entire continuum of proficiency’(Brice 2000). The Grammatical Constraints on Code-switching in Fortress Besieged

This paper analyzes the grammatical structures of code-switching in Qian Zhongshu 's famous work-Fortress Besieged and two conclusions are reached: In this novel, the matrix language Chinese plays a dominant role in the mixed constituents, lexically, morphologically and syntactically while in the matrix language islands and the embedded language islands, constituents respectively follow the grammatical rules of the matrix language-Chinese and the embedded language-English or French.

A Study of Code-Switching in Students' Talk in College English Class

Code-switching between English and Chinese usually occurs in students' talk when they are involved in taking communicative language activities in college English class. This paper studies the situations in which students are likely to use codeswitching and analyzes it from the perspective of the mental world in Verscheren's Adaptation Theory. It shows that inadequate mastery of English language, cultural differences and the improper adjustment to context may lead to students' using of codeswitching. It also shows that the use of code-switching in students' talk adapts to students' cognitive elements and emotive elements as well.

Optical Packet Switching Scheme Using Multi-optical-code Labels

Proposed is a novel optical code(OC) label switching scheme in which an optical label is constructed by multiple parallel optical codes.The performances of splitting loss and BER are simulated and analyzed.Simulation results show that the proposed label can be correctly recognized to perform packet switching.Compared with reported schemes using one OC as a label,the splitting loss in our proposal is lowered.

Modeling Methods for the Main Switch of High Pulsed-Power Facilities Based on Transmission Line Code

Based on the transmission line code （TLCODE）, a circuit model is developed here for analyses of main switches in the high pulsed-power facilities. With the structure of the ZR main switch as an example, a circuit model topology of the switch is proposed, and in particular, calculation methods of the dynamic inductance and resistance of the switching arc are described. Moreover, a set of closed equations used for calculations of various node voltages are theoretically derived and numericMly discretized. Based on these discrete equations and the Matlab program, a simulation procedure is established for analyses of the ZR main switch. Voltages and currents at different key points are obtained, and comparisons are made with those of a PSpice L-C model. The comparison results show that these two models are perfectly in accord with each other with discrepancy less than 0.1%, which verifies the effectiveness of the TLCODE model to a certain extent.
