What constitutes access to FP? Current human rights-based contraceptive guidelines indicate that access begins as soon as women or couples express a desire to avoid pregnancy and their risk of unintended pregnancy is established. However, few studies have sought to define and measure cognitive and psychosocial access to contraception. To propose a comprehensive framework for the cognitive and psychosocial accessibility of contraception, we critically analyzed the literature on attitudes toward FP. The main dimensions that emerged were knowledge about FP, fear of side effects, approval of contraception, and contraceptive agency. We then identified and adjusted some questions that can capture these dimensions more comprehensively. As a result, we developed a questionnaire module comprising 15 questions, which was integrated into the 6th round of the PMA2020 survey in Burkina Faso in 2019. This research highlighted that previous studies have collected separate dimensions of contraceptive access, and the psychosocial dimension tended to be neglected. Our results demonstrate that it is possible to collect comprehensive data on cognitive and psychosocial dimensions of access to family planning.展开更多

Research shows that fours main dimensions exist under the broad concept of cognitive and psychosocial access. This study aims to validate the construction of these dimensions and measure the relation between them and their links with modern contraceptive use. We utilized a questionnaire module to collect 15 questions measuring these dimensions through the 6th round of the Performance monitoring and accountability 2020 (PMA2020) survey in Burkina in 2019. We employed the scale validation technique to choose appropriate measures (observable indicators or items) for constructing each latent dimension (unobservable) in our study. The items consisted of questions that utilized a 5-point Likert scale or dichotomous responses to capture various psychosocial aspects. To assess the validity, reliability, convergence, and divergence of the latent dimensions and items, we utilized the validscale command in Stata. The validation process confirmed the reliability of all the dimensions. Contraceptive approval is more aligned with birth spacing rather than birth limiting, reflecting prevailing social perceptions. Women’s contraceptive agency was found to be more associated with their ability to discuss and negotiate with their partners rather than independent decision-making. Correlations between dimensions were generally weak, but the levels of knowledge, agency, and approval of contraception are positively correlated with contraceptive use and intention to use. Giving women more decision-making power and providing information to address side-effect concerns can enhance contraceptive approval.展开更多

Methods: Based on a “pre and post” virtually experimental design, two crosswise surveys were conducted in Kinshasa, for six months in 2011-2012 on 484 high school students (pre-survey) and on 441 high school students (post-survey), whose age range from 14 - 19 years including both sexes. Two participatory educational talks (PET) “A” and “B”, covered weekly in two different schools, were compared to a control group school. The PET “A” consisted of interactive interpersonal communication sessions given by an external expert as a substitute for the life education course in one school. The PET “B” carried out in another school, included more educational talk sessions, led by the external expert and supplemented by a close follow-up of teenagers divided into small groups of 10 participants. The subjects’ assessment was based on their knowledge, attitudes and practices relating to STI/HIV/AIDS dual prevention as well as to unwanted pregnancies. Results: The subjects involved in the PET “B” displayed a better/higher performance based on their knowledge, attitudes and practices related to STI/HIV/AIDS dual prevention and unwanted pregnancies. Broadly speaking, knowledge has been improved 6 times with the PET “B” (OR = 6, 10, IC 95%) (3.24 - 11.9), and 3 times with the PET “A” (OR = 3, 45, IC 95%) (1.79 - 6.81), compared to control school. Similarly, findings on subjects’ attitudes show an improvement rated 12 times with the PET”B” (OR = 11, 99, IC 95%) (5.67 - 27.38) and 5 times for the PET “A” (OR = 5.51, IC 95%) (2.54 - 12.87). As far as the subjects’ practices are concerned, an improvement of 6 more times of protected sexual intercourses with the PET “B” compared with the control school group (OR = 6, 52, IC 95%) (3.60 - 12.0). The process assessment records a spontaneous involvement of schools enhanced by the positive contribution of Life Education and Biology teachers;add a massive participation of adolescents who requested permanent PET program. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that school sexual education programs can be improved to increase the quality of apprenticeship. The use of interactive methods and the consideration of the adolescents’ specific needs that take into account the gender approach may bring about beneficial advantages on both educational outcomes and reproductive health of adolescents.展开更多

Quantum interference effect constitutes one of this theory’s main tenets and has been repeatedly demonstrated experimentally, in the last decade, in adult subjects. In the present paper, we aim to demonstrate, for the first time, the existence of thequantum interference effect on children during an experiment involving an integration of cognition and emotion. Our positive results consolidate the presuppositions of quantum cognition, enlarging its field of application to children’s mental apparatus and evidence the important question to consider the quantum model in the current investigated question of the interaction of cognition and emotion in children at neurological and psychological levels.展开更多

Oral piperine (5 mg/kg body weight/day) and intranasal PL (7.2 μg/day) were randomly assigned to daily administer for 14 days to rats which were subjected to forced swimming, Mor-ris water maze and spontaneous motor behavior tests. PL significantly exhibited anti-depression like activity and cognitive enhancing effects, in comparison to the control groups after the first dose (p < 0.01) and the effects could be maintained throughout the period of study. Quantitative analysis of the brain homogenates by HPLC indicated that piperine, delivered either orally or nasally, distributed to the hippocampus at a higher extent than the cortex and that the time to peak concentration of nasal PL was shorter than for the oral piperine. Intranasal PL was, thus, potential in delivery of piperine, at a low dose, to exert its an-tidepressant and cognitive enhancing activities.展开更多

This strategy also enriches the communication genres of "China's stories" and more importantly enhances its communication effect. In this context, it is necessary to understand and study the significance of this strategic practice, assess the value realization of "China's stories" during the communication process, and thereby establish a basis for future communication of more "China's stories." Based on the factors of relevance theory, this paper analyzes the ideas of and approaches to effective communication of "China's stories" and proposes corresponding strategies.

文摘Stroke is the leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, and cognitive impairment and dementia are major complications of ischemic stroke.Cystatin C (CysC) has been found to be a neuroprotective factor in animal studies. However, the relationship between CysC levels and cognitive dysfunction in previous studies has revealed different results. This prospective observational study investigated the correlation between serum CysC levels and post-stroke cognitive dysfunction at 3 months.Data from 638 patients were obtained from the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke (CATIS).Cognitive dysfunction was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) at 3 months after stroke.According to the MMSE score,308 patients (52.9%) had post-stroke cognitive dysfunction. After adjusting for potential confounding factors, the odds ratio (95% CI) of post-stroke cognitive dysfunction for the highest quartile of serum CysC levels was 0.54 (0.30–0.98),compared with the lowest quartile. The correlation between serum CysC and cognitive dysfunction was modified by renal function status. We observed a negative linear dose-response correlation between CysC and cognitive dysfunction in patients with normal renal function (Plinearity = 0.044),but not in those with abnormal renal function.Elevated serum CysC levels were correlated with a low risk of 3-month cognitive dysfunction in patients with acute ischemic stroke, especially in those with normal renal function. The current results suggest that CysC is a protective factor for post-stroke cognitive dysfunction, and could be used to treat post-stroke cognitive dysfunction. The CATIS study was approved by the Institutional Review Boards at Soochow University from China (approval No.2012-02) on December 30,2012,and was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (identifier No.NCT01840072) on April 25,2013.
文摘This paper points out that with interference from their native language and culture, Chinese students will inevitably make some errors in the process of learning English. It is important for teachers to know when and how to correct the students’ errors. By employing error-correction skillfully and appropriately, one can expect to improve the present English teaching and learning, to develop the self-confidence and self-esteem in students themselves.
文摘According to the fundamental theory of visual cognition mechanism and cognitive psychology, the visual pattern recognition model is introduced briefly.Three pattern recognition models,i.e.template_based matching model,prototype_based matching model and feature_based matching model are built and discussed separately. In addition, the influence of object background information and visual focus point to the result of pattern recognition is also discussed with the example of recognition for fuzzy letters and figures
文摘Quantum cognition is a scientific approach to cognitive phenomena which makes use of the mathematical formalism of quantum theory. Our positive results consolidate the presuppositions of quantum cognition, enlarging its field of application to children’s mental apparatus and evidence the important question to consider the quantum model in the current investigated question of the interaction of cognition and emotion in children at neurological and psychological levels.
文摘Antidepressant and cognitive effects of piperine -encapsulated liposomes (PL) were investigated in male Wistar rats. Intranasal PL was, thus, potential in delivery of piperine, at a low dose, to exert its an-tidepressant and cognitive enhancing activities.

文摘Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation(AtDCS)has been shown to alleviate cognitive impairment in an APP/PS1 model of Alzheimer’s disease in the preclinical stage. However, this enhancement was only observed immediately after AtDCS,and the long-term effect of AtDCS remains unknown. In this study,we treated 26-week-old mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease in the preclinical stage with 10 AtDCS sessions or sham stimulation. The Morris water maze, novel object recognition task, and novel object location test were implemented to evaluate spatial learning memory and recognition memory of mice.Western blotting was used to detect the relevant protein content.Morphological changes were observed using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining.Six weeks after treatment, the mice subjected to AtDCS sessions had a shorter escape latency,a shorter path length, more platform area crossings, and spent more time in the target quadrant than sham-stimulated mice. The mice subjected to AtDCS sessions also performed better in the novel object recognition and novel object location tests than sham-stimulated mice.Furthermore,AtDCS reduced the levels of amyloid-β42 and glial fibrillary acidic protein,a marker of astrocyte activation, and increased the level of neuronal marker NeuN in hippocampal tissue. These findings suggest that AtDCS can improve the spatial learning and memory abilities and pathological state of an APP/PS1 mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease in the preclinical stage, with improvements that last for at least 6 weeks.
文摘In this report, the author found out that the materials on hand imposed undue cognitive load on students. In order to maximize learning, the author changed her instructional design, kept a close eye on the whole process, and ultimately discovered that reducing the cognitive load of the learning materials is beneficial for the increase of learners' interest and the liven-up of the classroom atmosphere, which can finally maximize learners' language learning.
