This retrospective study investigated, in two cohorts of subjects living in Southern Italy and awaiting treatment for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the variables related to diagnostic delay ascribable to the patient, with particular reference to the cognitive and psychological ones. A total of 156 patients with OSCC (mean age: 62 years, M/F: 2.39 : 1) were recruited at the Universities of Palermo and Naples. Risk factors related to patient delay included: sociodemographic, health-related, cognitive and psychological variables. The analysis was conducted by considering two different delay ranges: dichotomous (≤1 month vs. 〉 1 month) and polytomous (〈1 month, 1-3 months, 〉3 months) delay. Data were investigated by univariate and multivariate analyses and a Pvalue≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. For both delay measurements, the most relevant variables were: 'Personal experience of cancer' (dichotomous delay: P=0.05, odds ratio (0R)=0.33, 95% confidence interval (CI)=0. 11-0.99; polytomous delay: P=0.006, Chi-square= 10.224) and 'Unawareness' (dichotomous delay: P〈0.01, 0R=4.96, 95% CI--2.16-11.37; polytomous delay: P=0.087, Chi-square=4.77). Also 'Denial' (P〈0.01, 0R=6.84, 95% CI=2.31-20.24) and 'Knowledge of cancer' (P=0.079, Chi-square=8.359) were found to be statistically significant both for dichotomous and for polytomous categorization of delay, respectively. The findings of this study indicated that, in the investigated cohorts, the knowledge about cancer issues is strongly linked to the patient delay. Educational interventions on the Mediterranean population are necessary in order to increase the patient awareness and to emphasize his/her key role in early diagnosis of OSCC. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the psychological cognition of women of childbearing age on the use of cosmetics during pregnancy,so as to provide guidance for women of childbearing age to correctly use cosmetics during pregnancy.Methods:A total of 180 women of childbearing age who underwent gynecological examination in Dezhou People’s Hospital from October 2020 to October 2021 were selected as the research subjects.Questionnaires were used to investigate the psychological cognition of women of childbearing age on the use of cosmetics during pregnancy.Results:Among the 180 women of childbearing age,48(26.67%)felt that cosmetics cannot be used during pregnancy,60(33.33%)felt that it did not matter,and 72(40.00%)agreed that cosmetics can be used during pregnancy.In addition,urban women,highly educated women,unmarried women,and enterprise employees agreed with the use of special cosmetics for pregnant women or the selective use of cosmetics during pregnancy.Conclusion:Most women of child-bearing age felt that cosmetics can be used during pregnancy;this cognition is related to their education level,occupation,and registered residence. 展开更多

This paper will add to an evolving new paradigm for financial decision-making by exploring the important roles that intuition, heuristics, and impulses play as a bridge between how the conscious and unconscious can work together more effectively in making better decisions. Historically, the roles of financial/accounting theory and cognitive psychology have been extensively studied and documented in attempting to explain individual financial decision-making. More recently, neuroscience has made substantial contributions to learning how prospective financial decisions and outcomes affect brain activity and observed decision-making behavior. The evidence from neuroscience indicates that up to 90% of our decisions are initiated at the unconscious level, which is only beginning to be investigated in a systematic manner. Integrating these findings from multiple disciplines, including recent contributions from neuroscience, has many implications, not only with respect to personal and corporate financial decisions and how markets work, but also as an essential component in the tool box of the general decision maker. 展开更多

In the historical interaction of science and philosophy,empirical science has used cumulative research to shed new light on how the science of philosophy understands fundamental scientific issues.As an effort of self-renewal,the initial impetus for the birth of cognitive science was dialogue among disciplines,with a view to making it possible to unlock the mysteries of cognition.In other words,cognitive science was to pave the way for fundamentally updating the philosophical premises of the science of mind or even making possible a new scientific worldview.As a branch of cognitive science,psychology was to have contributed to the renovation of the ontological,methodological and scientific worldview of cognitive science through its unique interpretation of human nature.However,in the course of the development of cognitive science and psychology,psychology has failed to employ its disciplinary endeavors to renew the ontology,methodology and values of the philosophical foundations of cognitive science,and has also failed to contribute to the promotion of cognitive science.On the contrary,cognitive science’s mechanistic worldview and positivist methodology are the sole determinants of the background of cognitive science that shapes psychology’s model of development—that is,cognitive psychology(if one sees cognitive psychology as a concrete manifestation of the interaction of cognitive science and psychology).This study examines cognitive psychology’s ontological,methodological and value presuppositions and scientific worldview and reflects on the blind and passive nature of the discipline’s development.Moreover,from a history of science perspective,it considers how the development of this discipline can contribute to the renewal of scientific concepts in the philosophy of science through the interaction of the mature natural sciences and philosophy and thence provide possibilities for handling the relationship between psychology and philosophy in psychology’s future development. 展开更多

From the Cognition of the Sick at Heart to the Cognition of Ghosts: The Knowledge Transformation of Cognitive Psychology in the Late Qing/Republican Era(1895-1949)

In examining the historical changes in cognitive psychology from 1895 to 1949, it is necessary to transform cognitive psychology into cognitive practice. In the late Qing and early Republic era(1895-1919), cognitive practice mainly appeared as the cognition of the sick at heart. Against the background of the late Qing importation of Western learning aimed at securing national salvation, the intellectual class, represented by Tan Sitong,hastily dressed the wound to the traditional Chinese learning of Heaven and man inflicted by late nineteenth century scientific knowledge from Europe and America. They regarded cognition as the understanding gained in the practice of self-cultivation, as affording man a spiritual resting place between Heaven and Earth. By the time of the Republic of China(1920-1949), the main form of cognitive practice had become ghostly cognition.Under the banner of saving the country by means of science, higher education researchers,represented by Lu Zhiwei, explored cognition with the help of such intermediaries as physiological mechanisms and language structure. Men could easily become ghosts trapped in intermediaries when they plunged into the conceptual world in search of truth,as their cognitive practice evolved into the conceptual grasp of ghosts. This ghostly cognition continued into later information processing psychology and was disseminated among the mass of the public. A deeper level of the cognition of the sick at heart remains for future study, on the lengthy road home. 展开更多

The purpose of this study was to investigate the memory effects of the postgraduates’memorizing Everyday English from 30 to 100 using the Natural Numeral Imagery Memory(Method by memorizing the concrete objects associated with the shapes of Arabic numeral to produce marvelous imagination,MMOASAPMI).The results indicated as follows:Firstly,the postgraduates,who applied the MMOASAPMI to memorize and recall the Everyday English from 30 to 100,could recite them well in sequence backward,forward,and randomly.The reaction time of reciting any sentence randomly is no more than 2 seconds.Secondly,it can transform the materials of the short-term memory into long-term memory quickly,and effectively prevent them from the interference of proactive and retroactive inhibition,so it is useful for keeping memorized information with less loss and remaining for a long period.Thirdly,with the materials in strong sequence,large quantities and the difficulty to memorize,it is an extremely effective method for memorizing them.Fourthly,the keys to improving the memory efficiency are the well-storing skills of memory,storing methods,and memory clues. 展开更多
