It occurs mainly in young adults during sexual intercourse. In many instances, one of the corpora carvanosus is involved though bilateral injuries with or without corpus spongiosus involvement is not uncommon. However, isolated injury to corpus spongiosus is extremely rare. We report a case of isolated rupture of corpus spongiosum secondary to penile injury during coitus in a 43-year-old man that presented to University Hospital Souro Sanou of Bobo Dioulasso. He presented with history of persistence bleeding per urethra following penile injury during sexual intercourse. The Retrograde urethrography (RUG) showed a partial rupture of urethra, Moore type 3. Complementary penile ultrasound revealed extensive contusion of the urethra with circumferential hematoma and rupture of the distal 1/3 of the corpus spongiosus. He had gentle per urethral catheterization which was left for one month. Penile ultrasound sound done after removal of catheter showed residual injury and narrowing of the urethra. 展开更多

We describe an unusual complication of coital trauma in a 29-year-old man who presented with a 3-year history of hematospermia and post-coital gross hematuria. Using urethroscopy under a semi-tumescent penis, an isolated urethral injury with active bleeding was detected at the prostatic urethra. The patient was successfully treated with transurethral fulguration. We suggest that isolated posterior urethral injury is one of the causes of male coital trauma, which might be asymptomatic when the penis is flaccid but show symptomatic bleeding when the penis is erect. 展开更多

Methods: A patient presented to our urology clinic having experienced post-coital gross hematuria for 2 years. He had not experienced lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). A series of examinations were performed to determine the source of bleeding. Results: The prostate was defined as the active bleeding source responsible for the patient's post-coital hematuria. Endoscopic fulguration did not alleviate the symptom. The use of dutasteride, a dual inhibitor of 5α-reductase, solved the problem. Conclusion: This study reports for the first time that post-coital gross hematuria is one of the clinical presentations of BPH, which can be successfully treated with 5α-reductase inhibitor. 展开更多

Aim: Report the epidemiological, clinicopathological characteristics and ensuring management of recent traumas of the external genitalia in Urology. Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study of 47 cases of patients suffering from recent traumas of the external genitalia over a period of 5 years. The variables studied were sociodemographic, clinical, paraclinical, therapeutic and evolutionary. Results: A total of 47 patients, including 46 men, were managed. The mean age was 26.8 years, ranging from 6 to 56 years. The circumstances of occurrence were: the missteps of coitus (n = 16), traffic accidents (n = 9) and criminal injuries (n = 8). The fracture of the penis (n = 16) was the most common lesion followed by the scrotal wound (n = 11). The management was medical and surgical and varied by the type of lesion. The outcome was favorable in 91.5% of cases. Conclusion: The incidence of traumas of the external genitalia was 9.4 in urology department in N'Djamena. Penis fracture was the frequent lesion. The management is multidisciplinary, medical and surgical. 展开更多
