Reports in a book on randomized trials by Mosteller and Boruch are used as a benchmark. The initiatives have been driven heavily by recent governmental emphasis on "evidence based policy" in education, criminology, welfare and other sectors. This policy has been backed, in the US at least, by substantial investments in mounting randomized controlled trials to evaluate curriculum packages and programs in grades K-12, crime prevention programs, welfare, and other work. Accelerated growth in randomized trials has entailed cross discipline pre-doctoral and post-doctoral institutes and graduate education programs aimed at enhancing the quality in trial design, execution, and analysis of results. Specific illustrations of graduate education in this area of statistics are taken mainly from experience at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and selected other institutions.展开更多

Reminders to complete the survey were sent and the results were analyzed over a period of 4 mo (January-April 2016). Survey questions include length of medical school and residency training; availability of fellowship and subspecialty training; number of residency programs in each country; accreditation pathways; research training; and medical physics education. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze and summarize data.RESULTSRadiology residency training ranges from 2-6 years with a median of 5 years, and follows 1 year of internship training in 55% (12 out of 22) European countries. Subspecialty fellowship training is offered in 55% (12 out of 22) European countries. Availability for specialization training by national societies is limited to eight countries. For nearly all respondents, less than fifty percent of radiologists travel abroad for specialization. Nine of 22 (41%) European countries have research requirements during residency. The types of certifying exam show variation where 64% (14 out of 22) European countries require both written and oral boards, 23% (5 out of 22) require oral examinations only, and 5% (1 out of 22) require written examinations only. A degree in medical physics is offered in 59% (13 out of 22) European countries and is predominantly taught by medical physicists. Nearly all respondents report that formal examinations in medical physics are required.CONCLUSIONComparative learning experiences across the continent will help guide the development of comprehensive yet pragmatic infrastructures for radiology education and collaborations in radiology education worldwide.展开更多

The history of preparing highly educated mining surveying specialists and putting their education into practice in our country is an interesting one. The main center to prepare mining surveying specialists is the School of Mining Engineering of the Mongolian State University of Science and Technology. This paper introduces the work that is being done today to prepare mining surveying specialists in Mongolia and its future purposes.展开更多

This paper discussed the highlights of the major neutron physics experiments in the field of neutron interferometry and ultra-small angle neutron scattering as well as in the field of radiochemistry, education and training and research in the field of nuclear safeguards and nuclear security. Potential further directions of research are outlined where the Atominstitut of Vienna might concentrate in future.展开更多

These students come to UPSOM as visiting research scholars for two years of their eight-year MD curriculum. During this time, the students, who have completed four years at Tsinghua, work full-time in medical school laboratories and research programs of their choice, essentially functioning as graduate students. In their first two months in Pittsburgh, the scholars have a one-week orientation to biomedical research, followed by two-week rotations in four labs selected on the basis of the scholars' scientific interests, after which they choose one of these labs for the remainder of the two years.Selected labs may be in basic science departments, basic science divisions of clinical departments, or specialized centers that focus on approaches like simulation and modeling. The Tsinghua students also have a brief exposure to clinical medicine. UPSOM has also formed a similar partnership with Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine in Changsha, Hunan Province. The Xiangya students come to UPSOM for two years of research training after their sixth year and, thus, unlike the Tsinghua students, have already completed their clinical rotations. UPSOM faculty members have also paved the way for UPMC(University of Pittsburgh Medical Center), UPSOM's clinical partner, to engage with clinical centers in China. Major relationships involving advisory, training, managerial, and/or equity roles exist with Xiangya International Medical Center, KingMED Diagnostics, First Chengmei Medical Industry Group, and Macare Women's Hospital. Both UPSOM and UPMC are actively exploring other clinical and academic opportunities in China.展开更多

Two specific disciplines, the computer science and information systems were chosen for the study that closely represents the two ends of a wide range of computing discipline spectrum within the faculties of science, engineering, business and education. The ultimate goal of the above major project, when completed, is to enhance productivity of research training process in computing schools. The foreshadowed problem is that for many of HDR students it takes a long time to produce a specific result expected to be done in much shorter periods of time; and yet at some stage the student seems to get over this hurdle almost overnight. By adopting a threshold concept framework this study extends existing studies in the above area by specifically targeting HDR process in computing disciplines, and provides plans for a wide range of studies that will ideally lead to identification of threshold concept for HDR students in computing disciplines. The issue under development in the current study is how can the process of overcoming the above hurdles be facilitated? How can the productivity of various resources utilized during the above long and frustrating waiting periods be increased by shortening the waiting times?展开更多
