Application of the Concept of“Endowing the Old with the New”in Urban Renewal

The renewal of ancient cities is an important part of the urban renewal work in China.However,there are few studies on the general historical ancient cities at the county level in China,and there is no guidance on the renewal path.Through the practice of the renewal design project of Suining County,Xuzhou City,it makes an exploratory study on the renewal concept and mode.It first interprets the connotation and implementation path of the renewal concept of“endowing the old with the new”.Based on the texture analysis of the ancient city of Suining,it finally determines the design theme that tracing the historical context of the ancient city.Using the renewal techniques such as“extraction-transformationactivation”,through the renewal strategies such as“building new space,shaping new landscape,inheriting new culture and pregnant with new environment”,it realizes the regeneration of urban historical context and meets the needs of residents'modern life,so as to provide reference and guidance for the renovation of general historical ancient cities at the county level in China.

Impact of Two-Way FDI on the Industrial Structure in Shandong Province Under the Background of “New and Old Kinetic Energy Conversion”

This paper uses the panel data of 17 cities in Shandong Province from 2003 to 2018 to construct a panel model to empirically study the impact of foreign direct investment(FDI)on the industrial structure.The results show that two-way investment,financial industry development,and policy variables have significant roles in promoting the advancement of the industrial structure in the province.In the future implementation of the“Going Global”strategy in Shandong Province,the cooperation between two-way investment and the financial industry should be strengthened,the level of regional financial development should be improved,and the impact of two-way investment on the optimization and upgrading of the industrial structure should be reinforced.

The identity of Dinochloa species and enumeration of Melocalamus(Poaceae:Bambusoideae) in China

Three woody bamboo species collected in Hainan,China in 1940 have been described as Dinochloa based on vegetative specimens.However,the identity of these species has long been in doubt,largely because the vegetative phase in species of Dinochloa is morphologically similar to that in species of Melocalamus,a climbing or scrambling bamboo genus of the paleotropical woody bamboos(Poaceae:Bambusoideae)that consists of about 15 species and one variety.To determine the phylogenetic affinity of the three Dinochloa species from Hainan,we sampled almost all recognized Chinese species of Melocalamus and representative species of Dinochloa as well as other closely related genera,performed molecular phylogenetic analysis,and compared their morphology based on herbarium and fieldwork investigation.Our ddRAD data indicate that the three species from Hainan are closely related to Melocalamus,not Dinochloa.Morphological analysis showed that these three species have a climbing habit but do not grow spirally,their culm leaves have smooth bases,and there is a ring of powder and/or tomenta above and below the nodes.Taken together our findings indicate that the three species from Hainan originally published in Dinochloa should be transferred to Melocalamus,i.e.,Melocalamus orenudus(McClure) D.Z.Li& J.X.Liu,Melocalamus puberulus(McClure) D.Z.Li & J.X.Liu,and Melocalamus utilis(McClure) D.Z.Li &J.X.Liu,respectively.This study concludes with an enumeration of Chinese species of Melocalamus,with a key to nine recognized species and one variety,and a lectotypification for M. compatiflorus.

A New Combination and Two Varieties of Polystigmate Gomphonema (Gomphonemaceae Bacillariophyta) from Heilongjiang Province, China

Fan et Bao.comb.nov., and two new varieties, Gomphonema turris Ehr. var. latum Fan et Wang. var. nov. and Gomphonema acuminatum var. obtusum Fan et Bao, var. nov., that were distinguished by frustule morphology under LM. The samples were collected from freshwater of Heilongjiang Province, China.

An Understanding of Old and New Buildings in Chinese National Parks with Reference to Mount Emei

This paper presents an investigation on attitudes towards old and new buildings in Mount Emei that is a significant cultural national park in China. Questionnaires and interviews were employed to collect data from those whose careers and lives are affected, and were affected, by the buildings. The investigation reveals that people show significantly different attitudes towards the two types of buildings and place more value on old buildings. People particularise their liking for old buildings associated with traditional values, aesthetic quality and conformity to surroundings whereas indicates their disliking for new ones with changed values from tradition to modernity, unsound administrative management and poor respect for surroundings. It is concluded that traditional ideology tends to be well expressed by the old buildings but poorly by new ones. It is accordingly suggested that ideology should be taken more into account in new building projects in Mount Emei.

Singchia and Gunnaria,two new genera of Orchidaceae

Singchia Z. J. Liu ＆ L. J. Chen, a new orchid genus, is established based on the new species S. malipoensis Z. J. Liu ＆ L. J. Chen found in southeast Yunnan, China. The new genus is related to Pteroceras, from which it differs by having a lip with its basal margins immovably adnate to the lower part of the pendent column foot, a thin-walled spur, and very unequally and deeply split pollinia, each with a distinct caudicle. In addition to a discussion on Ascocentrum pusillum, a species of questionable placement, another new genus, namely Gunnaria S. C. Chen ex Z. J. Liu ＆ L. J. Chen, is set up and a new combination, namely G. pusilla （Aver.） Z. J. Liu ＆ L. J. Chen, is made. The new genus Gunnaria differs from its allyAscocentrum by having a cross-shaped pollinarium, sulcate or split pollinia, each with a distinct caudicle attached to a common linear stipe much longer than either pollinia or viscidium, and strongly incurved side lobes of the lip.

Land use suitability analysis for town development planning in Nanjing hilly areas: A case study of Tangshan new town, China

Land use suitability analysis plays an important role in sustainable land use and solving environmental problems caused by rapid urban development.A land use suitability mapping approach for town development planning in hilly areas was constructed based on two multi-criteria evaluation methods:Weighted Linear Combination(WLC)and Ordered Weighted Averaging(OWA),to comparatively evaluate and map land use suitability of Tangshan new town in Nanjing,China.Fourteen evaluation factors related to topographic,environmental,socio-economics and historical sites data were used as suitability criteria.The analytic hierarchy process(AHP)method and GIS techniques were integrated into the evaluation models to create the land use suitability map for town development planning.The results of WLC approach showed that 11.4%of the total area is highly suitable while the 48.6%is unsuitable.The results of WLC and OWA approach showed the distribution of degree of land use suitability is almost the same.The areas located at the southern and eastern flat regions are highly suitable for land use,whereas the areas close to the mountain forests,steep slopes,waters,and hot springs,have lower suitability for land use.Sensitivity analysis indicated that the suitability results of the two proposed methods are robust.Indirect validation was achieved by mutual comparison of suitability maps derived from the WLC and OWA methods.It demonstrated that the overall agreement is 90.81%and kappa coefficient is 0.81,indicating that both methods provide very similar spatial suitability distributions.By overlaying the resultant map with the previous master plan map of Tangshan new town,the overlay map once again indicated a satisfactory ecological fit between the two maps.At last,several recommendations are proposed aiming at improving the long-term town development plan for Tangshan new town.
