The dynamic stress intensity factor history for a half plane crack in an otherwise unbounded elastic body, with the crack faces subjected to a traction distribution consisting of two pairs of suddenly-applied shear line loads is consid- ered. The analytic expression for the combined mode stress intensity factors as a function of time is obtained. The method of solution is based on the application of integral transforms and the Wiener-Hopf technique. Representation of the ENSO Combination Mode and its Asymmetric SST Response in Different Resolutions of HadGEM3

Previous studies have revealed a combination mode (C-mode) occurring in the Indo-Pacific region, arising from nonlinear interactions between ENSO and the western Pacific warm pool annual cycle. This paper evaluates the simulation of this C-mode and its asymmetric SST response in HadGEM3 and its resolution sensitivity using three sets of simulations at horizontal resolutions of N96, N216 and N512. The results show that HadGEM3 can capture well the spatial pattern of the C-mode associated surface wind anomalies, as well as the asymmetric response of SST in the tropical Pacific, but it strongly overestimates the explained variability of the C-mode compared to the ENSO mode. The model with the three resolutions is able to reproduce the distinct spectral peaks of the C-mode at the near annual combination frequencies, but the performance in simulating the longer periods is not satisfactory, presumably due to the unrealistic simulation of the ENSO mode. Increasing the horizontal resolution can improve the consistency between atmospheric and oceanic representations of the C-mode, but not necessarily enhance the accuracy of C-mode simulation compared with observation. 展开更多

Compared with a conventional single section two-phase closed thermosyphon (TPCT) wellbore, a two-section TPCT wellbore has better heat transfer performance, which may improve the temperature distribution of fluid in wellbores, increase the temperature of fluid in wellheads and even more effectively reduce the failure rate of conventional TPCT wellbores. Heat transfer performance of two-section TPCT wellbores is affected by working medium, combination mode and oil flow rate. Different working media are introduced into the upper and lower TPCTs, which may achieve a better match between the working medium and the temperature field in the wellbores. Interdependence exists between the combination mode and the flow rate of the oil, which affects the heat transfer performance of a two-section TPCT wellbore. The experimental results show that a two-section TPCT wellbore, with equal upper and lower TPCTs respectively filled with Freon and methanol, has the best heat transfer performance when the oil flow rate is 200 L/h. 展开更多

Reasonable evacuation strategies are important in reducing casualties in the event of a fire.In this work,we conduct a simulation of a fire evacuation of a large public building based on the building information modeling technology to find the best evacuation strategy.We identify the tolerance limit of evacuees in case of a fire as the basis of the simulation using the fire dynamics simulator software.The following four evacuation strategies are proposed and simulated:stratified evacuation only by stairs,stratified evacuation mainly by stairs and supplemented by fire elevators,holistic evacuation only by stairs,and holistic evacuation mainly by stairs and supplemented by fire elevators.The case study of a college canteen shows that if 10%of evacuees(mainly elderly people who walk slowly and children who take up less space)are instructed to evacuate via fire elevators and the other 90%of evacuees(young men and women who move fast)use the stairs,the evacuation time can be reduced to a minimum.Some improvements in the design drawing result in the enhanced efficiency of the proposed strategy.The findings of this work are of great significance for the optimization of the structural design of large public buildings and provide some references for emergency evacuation. 展开更多

This study demonstrates the main physical mechanism for the maintenance of the western North Pacific(WNP)anomalous anticyclone(WNPAC)during the El Niño decaying summer by analyzing the respective effects of the cold sea surface temperature(SST)anomalies in the WNP,the warm SST anomalies in the Indian Ocean(IO),and the El Niño and Southern Oscillation(ENSO)combination mode.We find that the WNPAC is usually accompanied by significant cold WNP SST anomalies in the El Niño mature winter and following spring,which almost disappear in the decaying summer and cannot explain the maintenance of the WNPAC in summer.The influence of the IO warm SST anomalies on the WNPAC exhibits conspicuous decadal differences.Before the 2000 s,the IO warm SST anomalies played a role in the WNPAC maintenance through the response of the baroclinic atmospheric Kelvin wave;however,this effect cannot be evidently detected after the 2000 s.This decadal difference may be related to changes in the decaying speed of ENSO events.In contrast to El Niño events before the 2000 s,El Niño events after the 2000 s decay more rapidly,and the associated tropical central-eastern Pacific SST features a La Ni?a-like condition in the El Niño decaying summer.Concomitantly,no significant warm SST anomalies appear over the tropical Indian Ocean,exerting a weak influence on the WNPAC.Relative to the cold WNP SSTanomalies and warm IO SST anomalies,the ENSO combination mode,originating from the nonlinear interaction between ENSO and the annual cycle,has a relatively stable relationship with the WNPAC during the El Niño decaying summer,which exhibits a crucial role in the maintenance of the WNPAC.Considering the persistence of the ENSO combination mode,the WNPAC and associated climate variability during the El Niño decaying summer can be skillfully predicted at least one season in advance based on the ENSO combination mode. 展开更多

The series composed by beam mode function is used to approximate the displacement function of constrained damping of laminated cantilever plates, and the transverse deformation of the plate on which a concentrated force is acted is calculated using the principle of virtual work.By solving Lagrange's equation, the frequencies and model loss factors of free vibration of the plate are obtained, then the transient response of constrained damping of laminated cantilever plate is obtained, when the concentrated force is withdrawn suddenly.The theoretical calculations are compared with the experimental data, the results show:both the frequencies and the response time of theoretical calculation and its variational law with the parameters of the damping layer are identical with experimental results.Also, the response time of steel cantilever plate, unconstrained damping cantilever plate and constrained damping cantilever plate are brought into comparison, which shows that the constrained damping structure can effectively suppress the vibration. 展开更多
