According to a random distribution table, 60 cases of scanty menstruation patients were evenly divided into 3 groups: A) estrin (n = 20), B) acupuncture (n = 20), and C) acupuncture +estrin (n = 20) for comparing their therapeutic effect. Results showed that after treatment, 5 cases in estrin group, 12 cases in acupuncture group and 14 cases in acupuncture + estrin group respectively had an ovulation response. Statistical analysis displayed significant differences between acupuncture group or acupuncture + estrin group and estrin group. (P < 0.05, P <0.05 ); and between acupuneture and acupuncture + estrin groups in the estradiol level of the early phase of follicles in patients with ovulation and without ovulation (P < 0. 05, P < 0.01 ). The fact indicates a close interrelation between acupuncture-induced ovulatory effect and the estradiol level of the patient’s body. 展开更多

In the present paper, the author reviews the progresses in the study on acumoxi (acupuncture-moxi-bustion) treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM) from Chinese ancient classical works, Chinese and foreign journals. The therapeutic results reveal that acupuncture treatment of DM is effective in improving DM patients' symptoms via vagal-nerve reflex, regulation of neuroendocrine and immune functions. The author holds that ① correct selection of acupoints in accordance with syndrome differentiation and the related meridians and combined application of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicines (for oral administration) are the key points for raising the therapeutic effect; and ② acupoint combination and curative methods need to be researched further. 展开更多

Objective:To discuss the clinical efficacy and plausible mechanism of Tiao Yang Qu Xie(regulating Yang to eliminate pathogenic factors)needling method plus paroxetine in treating mild-to-moderate depression.Methods:Sixty-six patients with mild-to-moderate depression were divided into an observation group and a control group using the random number table method, each consisting of 33 cases.Another 25 healthy subjects were recruited as a healthy group. The control group took oral paroxetine tablets for treatment, and the observation group received additional acupuncture treatment 3 times weekly. Both groups underwent 4-week treatment. Before treatment, after 2-week and 4-week treatment, and 2 weeks after treatment(follow-up),the patients were assessed using the Hamilton depression scale-17-item(HAMD-17),self-rating depression scale(SDS),self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),and traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)pattern element identification scale for depression. The two groups each randomly contributed 25 cases to detect the protein content of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)before treatment and after 4-week treatment, and compared with the healthy group. Results:After 2-week treatment, the markedly effective and total effective rates were significantly higher in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05);after 4-week treatment, the observation group significantly surpassed the control group in comparing the markedly effective rate(P<0.05).After 2 and 4 weeks of treatment and at the follow-up,the HAMD-17 total score and sleep disorder factor score were lower in the observation group than in the control group(P<0.05);the anxiety-somatic score was lower in the observation group than in the control group after 2-week treatment(P<0.05).After 2 and 4 weeks of treatment and at the follow-up,the observation group was lower than the control group in comparing the scores of SDS,SAS,and TCM pattern element identification scale for depression(P<0.05).After 4-week treatment, the observation group had an increased serum BDNF protein content, higher than that in the control group(P<0.05)and had no significant difference compared to the healthy group(P>0.05).Conclusion:Compared to the use of oral paroxetine alone, acupuncture plus paroxetine can produce more significant efficacy in treating mild-to-moderate depression and act faster in improving sleep disorder and anxiety-somatic symptoms;increasing the serum BDNF protein content may be a part of the mechanism underlying its antidepressant actions. 展开更多

Combined use of acupuncture and drug is extensively applied for its wide indications, simple manipulation and good results. Combined use of acupuncture and drug is not in effect the mechanic addition of acupuncture and drugs. It has been proved that acupuncture and drug are of synergism, but there may be an antagonism between acupuncture and drug. How to choose the optimum acupoint in the combination of acupuncture and drug to exert better effects is of great theoretical and practical significance for acupuncturists to make further researches. 展开更多

Objective To investigate effects of acupuncture combined with Fluoxetine on behavior and regulatory T cell (Treg) proportion in mice of chronic depression. Methods Sixty Balb/c mice were randomly divided into a normal control group (group A, n=10) and depression model group (n=50). Fifty Balb/c mice were irritated with a variety of chronic unpredictable moderate stress stimulations for 21 days to prepare the mouse depression model. After successfully modeling, 50 depression model mice were randomly divided into 5 groups, a model group (group B), a fluoxetine group (group C), an acupuncture group (group D) and a combined acupuncture and medicine group (group E) and a sham acupuncture group (group F), 10 mice in each group. The mice in the group C were intragastrically administrated with Fluoxetine once (20 mg/kg); for the group D, electroacupuncture (EA) was given at "Baihui" (百会 GV 20) and "Shenting" (神庭 GV 24) and for the group F, EA was given at non-acupoint of the buttock for 2 min; for the group E, acupuncture combined with Fluoxetine was used with the same acupoints, methods and medicine as those in the group D and C. The treatment was given once each day, for 21 consecutive days. After treatment the open-field behavior (retention period at the central square, horizontal movement, vertical movement, etc.), sucrose preferences, body mass, food intake and other behaviors were observed, and the proportion of regulatory T cells (CD4^+ CD2^+5 Foxp3^+ Treg cells) was analyzed with flow cytometry. Results Compared with the normal control group, the open-field behavior showed depression-like changes, and humoral consumption, sucrose preferences, body mass and food intake significantly decreased in the mice of the depression model group. After treatment, compared with the group B, the behaviors of the mice in the group E, C and D were improved in varying degrees; compared with other groups, the group E had more obvious effect on vertical movement; acupuncture combined with Fluoxetine could down-regulate the high-expressed Treg cells. Conclusion Acupuncture combined with Fluoxetine can improve depression behaviors of the mice of depression in the early stage. The mechanism possibly is related with regulating Treg cells which improve the immunosuppressive status of depression. 展开更多
