Unsupervised multi-modal image translation based on the squeeze-and-excitation mechanism and feature attention module

The unsupervised multi-modal image translation is an emerging domain of computer vision whose goal is to transform an image from the source domain into many diverse styles in the target domain.However,the multi-generator mechanism is employed among the advanced approaches available to model different domain mappings,which results in inefficient training of neural networks and pattern collapse,leading to inefficient generation of image diversity.To address this issue,this paper introduces a multi-modal unsupervised image translation framework that uses a generator to perform multi-modal image translation.Specifically,firstly,the domain code is introduced in this paper to explicitly control the different generation tasks.Secondly,this paper brings in the squeeze-and-excitation(SE)mechanism and feature attention(FA)module.Finally,the model integrates multiple optimization objectives to ensure efficient multi-modal translation.This paper performs qualitative and quantitative experiments on multiple non-paired benchmark image translation datasets while demonstrating the benefits of the proposed method over existing technologies.Overall,experimental results have shown that the proposed method is versatile and scalable.

Transcreation in Advertisement Slogans from the Perspective of Communicative Translation Theory

Through in-depth analysis of advertisement slogans,the present study probes into the unique contribution of trancreation in conveying brand messages and triggering emotional resonance of the audience.The study firstly outlines theoretical basis of transcreation from the perspective of Communicative Translation Theory,emphasizing its uniqueness in the traditional translation paradigm.Then the four key steps of transcreation,including in-depth understanding of the brand essence,sensitive response to cultural differences,flexible use of language skills,and incorporation of creative elements,are examined by means of case analysis in advertisement translation.Finally,the article sums up the positive impact of transcreation on cultural exchange,brand communication and translation field,particularly in the era of globalisation.

LKMT:Linguistics Knowledge-Driven Multi-Task Neural Machine Translation for Urdu and English

Thanks to the strong representation capability of pre-trained language models,supervised machine translation models have achieved outstanding performance.However,the performances of these models drop sharply when the scale of the parallel training corpus is limited.Considering the pre-trained language model has a strong ability for monolingual representation,it is the key challenge for machine translation to construct the in-depth relationship between the source and target language by injecting the lexical and syntactic information into pre-trained language models.To alleviate the dependence on the parallel corpus,we propose a Linguistics Knowledge-Driven MultiTask(LKMT)approach to inject part-of-speech and syntactic knowledge into pre-trained models,thus enhancing the machine translation performance.On the one hand,we integrate part-of-speech and dependency labels into the embedding layer and exploit large-scale monolingual corpus to update all parameters of pre-trained language models,thus ensuring the updated language model contains potential lexical and syntactic information.On the other hand,we leverage an extra self-attention layer to explicitly inject linguistic knowledge into the pre-trained language model-enhanced machine translation model.Experiments on the benchmark dataset show that our proposed LKMT approach improves the Urdu-English translation accuracy by 1.97 points and the English-Urdu translation accuracy by 2.42 points,highlighting the effectiveness of our LKMT framework.Detailed ablation experiments confirm the positive impact of part-of-speech and dependency parsing on machine translation.

Identification of immune feature genes and intercellular profiles in diabetic cardiomyopathy

BACKGROUND Diabetic cardiomyopathy(DCM)is a multifaceted cardiovascular disorder in which immune dysregulation plays a pivotal role.The immunological molecular mechanisms underlying DCM are poorly understood.AIM To examine the immunological molecular mechanisms of DCM and construct diagnostic and prognostic models of DCM based on immune feature genes(IFGs).METHODS Weighted gene co-expression network analysis along with machine learning methods were employed to pinpoint IFGs within bulk RNA sequencing(RNA-seq)datasets.Single-sample gene set enrichment analysis(ssGSEA)facilitated the analysis of immune cell infiltration.Diagnostic and prognostic models for these IFGs were developed and assessed in a validation cohort.Gene expression in the DCM cell model was confirmed through real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blotting techniques.Additionally,single-cell RNA-seq data provided deeper insights into cellular profiles and interactions.RESULTS The overlap between 69 differentially expressed genes in the DCM-associated module and 2483 immune genes yielded 7 differentially expressed immune-related genes.Four IFGs showed good diagnostic and prognostic values in the validation cohort:Proenkephalin(Penk)and retinol binding protein 7(Rbp7),which were highly expressed,and glucagon receptor and inhibin subunit alpha,which were expressed at low levels in DCM patients(all area under the curves>0.9).SsGSEA revealed that IFG-related immune cell infiltration primarily involved type 2 T helper cells.High expression of Penk(P<0.0001)and Rbp7(P=0.001)was detected in cardiomyocytes and interstitial cells and further confirmed in a DCM cell model in vitro.Intercellular events and communication analysis revealed abnormal cellular phenotype transformation and signaling communication in DCM,especially between mesenchymal cells and macrophages.CONCLUSION The present study identified Penk and Rbp7 as potential DCM biomarkers,and aberrant mesenchymal-immune cell phenotype communication may be an important aspect of DCM pathogenesis.

Stylistic features of cell-phone short messages in English and their translation

Cell-phone short messages in English possess special styles. Some are in a literary style, and others in a non-literary one. In the present paper, the stylistic features of English short messages are illustrated by applying the stylistic theory and employing the ＂Model of Analyzing Textual Function＂. The features of the two styles of messages are described and analyzed from the perspectives of their pronunciation, graphology, vocabulary, grammar, discourse, rhetoric, etc., and the stylistic features serve as the basis for discussing the translation principles and methods of English short messages.

A Brief Introduction of Communicative Translation Teaching Method
