Sport Participation and Community Capacity Building in Disadvantaged Urban Communities

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between sport and community by examining the role played by sports participation in community engagement and community capacity building in disadvantaged urban communities.From a conceptual standpoint,the study is based on the sociological theory of the community and Community Capacity Building(CCB)theory,which provide overviews of the concept of community and community capacity and its characteristics.Four disadvantaged urban communities were investigated.Two of these communities had sports programs,while the other two did not.The online questionnaire methodology was adopted to assess the socio-demographic characteristics and community engagement of the participants(knowledge of programs and participation in community activities),and subsequently,an analysis of the online social media narratives of the community members themselves was developed to measure the characteristics of their community capacity building.We found that community engagement and community capacity values were higher in the communities with sports programs.These findings are promising and suggest that approaches based on sports participation development could be fruitful,particularly in disadvantaged communities.

Community building in China:issues and directions

Community spirit is the real essence of community. By involvement in community life, people identify with the communities where they live and work. Thanks to its own distinctive history and cultural environment, Chinese society has a community development and social structure quite distinct from that of the West. Social organizations are not fully developed in China, and the government plays a dominant role in community development. Community building in China should cultivate residents＇ community consciousness, and be centered on specific social problems such as homelessness, unemployment, family care, poverty, etc.

Building a community with a shared future for mankind is an important guiding principle for China to address foreign affairs in this new era, and its profound connotations echo the spirit of international law. In the context of globalization, the ever-increasing common interests of the international community lay a material basis for building a community with a shared future for mankind. The doctrine of international community orientation, which is based on sovereignty and at the same time transcends sovereignty, forms an ideological basis for building a community with a shared future. Division of tasks and cooperation between government and the community:an essential condition for the reform and innovation of China's community-building system

There were no communities in the real sense of the term in China in the era of the planned economy. The establishment of a market economy and the dismantling of the danwei （work unit） based society provide the in-depth background for China＇s community building. Current community-building is essentially a part of the government urban administrative system, an outcome of redistribution of administrative power and jurisdiction within the government. It has failed to repair the structural defects of the traditional social system, which did not distinguish between government functions and those of society. In the new era of building a harmonious society, such a system is unable to provide institutions for social development, social democracy, social governance and social services. For the reform and innovation of the community-building system, we must transform the social functions of government, encourage popular social organizations, set up a modern system of public finances, and endeavor to build a system for division of tasks and cooperation between government and society.

Taiwan’s Community Epidemic Prevention Based on Health Building and Collaborative Network

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus epidemic in early 2020 triggered off worldwide concerns for epidemic prevention as a coping strategy against public health crises.Facing the epidemic which has been characterized by wide spreading range and a long incubation period,communities have become the frontier in the war against it.At the same time,various problems have been exposed at the community level,including the lack of epidemic prevention planning,the high workload of community staff,and the insufficient public awareness on public health,etc.Focusing on the construction of Taiwan’s community epidemic prevention system,this paper elaborates the signifcance and necessity of the community’s participation in epidemic prevention based on a systematic literature review and policy study.It analyzes the restructuring and transition of a community epidemic prevention system and the primary strategies of community epidemic prevention planning,community health building,community health resources networking,community epidemic prevention practice,and the emergency planning in response to the novel coronavirus epidemic.It fnally summarizes the methods of building a sustainable community epidemic prevention system.

Building a Community of Shared Destiny for Common Security: Some Observations on its Construction Path

A community of shared destiny(whose content is the same as community of shared future, an update translation) is the guiding principle and strategic objective of China's diplomacy, and is just, peaceful, inclusive, comprehensive and scientific. It reflects a rational concept of how a rising China handles relations with the outside world. It rejects analysis and understanding of simple traditional thinking that a strong power is bound to seek hegemony. However, the Chinese diplomacy also needs Chinese thinking and perspectives.
