Comparisons and applications of numerical simulation methods for predicting aerodynamic heating around complex configurations 被引量:1

Numerical simulation methods of aerodynamic heating were compared by considering the inuence of numerical schemes and turbulence models,and attempting to investigate the applicability of numerical simulation methods on predicting heat flux in engineering applications. For some typical cases provided with detailed experimental data,four spatial schemes and four turbulence models were adopted to calculate surface heat flux. By analyzing and comparing,some inuencing regularities of numerical schemes and turbulence models on calculating heat flux had been acquired. It is clear that AUSM+-up scheme with rapid compressibilitymodified high Reynolds number k鈥撓?model should be appropriate for calculating heat flux. The numerical methods selected as preference above were applied to calculate the heat flux of a 3-D complex geometry in high speed turbulent flows. The results indicated that numerical simulation can capture the complex flow phenomena and reveal the mechanism of aerodynamic heating. Especially,the numerical result of the heat flux at the stagnation point of the wedge was well in agreement with the prediction of Kemp鈥揜iddel formula,and the surface heat flux distribution was consistent with experiment results,which implied that numerical simulation can be introduced to predict heat flux in engineering applications. 展开更多

The state-of-art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes FLUENT is applied in a fine-scale simulation of the wind field over a complex terrain. Several numerical tests are performed to validate the capability of FLUENT on describing the wind field details over a complex terrain. The results of the numerical tests show that FLUENT can simulate the wind field over extremely complex terrain, which cannot be simulated by mesoscale models. The reason why FLUENT can cope with extremely complex terrain, which can not be coped with by mesoscale models, relies on some particular techniques adopted by FLUENT, such as computer-aided design (CAD) technique, unstructured grid technique and finite volume method. Compared with mesoscale models, FLUENT can describe terrain in much more accurate details and can provide wind simulation results with higher resolution and more accuracy. 展开更多

In this paper, based on simulated annealing a new method to rank important nodes in complex networks is presented.First, the concept of an importance sequence(IS) to describe the relative importance of nodes in complex networks is defined. Then, a measure used to evaluate the reasonability of an IS is designed. By comparing an IS and the measure of its reasonability to a state of complex networks and the energy of the state, respectively, the method finds the ground state of complex networks by simulated annealing. In other words, the method can construct a most reasonable IS. The results of experiments on real and artificial networks show that this ranking method not only is effective but also can be applied to different kinds of complex networks. 展开更多

Analysis of the stress intensity factor of welded joints under prior corrosion and complex stress fields

Taking cruciform welded joints under different corrosion degrees, together with 45° inclined angle and full penetration load-carrying fillet, as the research object, the stress intensity factor of a quarter-circular comer crack of welded joints is calculated based on FRANC3D with ABAQUS. Effects of different corrosion pit sizes, crack aspect ratios, and crack depths on stress intensity factor are analyzed. The results show that pit depth plays a major role in stress intensity factor, while the effect of pit radius is relatively small. The cracking modes of the surface and the deepest point are mode I, and mixed modes I and II, respectively. Effects of pit depths, crack aspect ratios, and crack depths on the stress intensity factor at the surface point are greater than at the deepest point. 展开更多

The research on complex systems is different from that on general systems because the former must consider self-organization,emergence,uncertainty,predetermination,and evolution.As an important method to transform the world,a simulation is one of the most important skills to discover complex systems.In this study,we provide a survey on complex systems and their simulation methods.Initially,the development history of complex system research is summarized from two main lines.Then,the eight common characteristics of the most complex systems are presented.Furthermore,the simulation methods of complex systems are introduced in detail from four aspects,namely,meta-synthesis methods,complex networks,intelligent technologies,and other methods.From the overall point of view,intelligent technologies are the driving force,and complex networks are the advanced structure.Meta-synthesis methods are the integration strategy,and other methods are the supplements.In addition,we show three complex system simulation examples:digital reactor simulation,simulation of a logistics system in the industrial site,and crowd evacuation simulation.The examples show that a simulation is a useful means and an important method in complex system research.Finally,the future development prospects for complex systems and their simulation methods are suggested. 展开更多

Furthermore, the effect of forest canopy may be changed by complex topography. In this paper, we measured and simulated the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest at different canopy openness in the west Tianshan Mountains, China(43°16'N, 84°24'E) during spring 2013. A sensitivity study was conducted to explore the way that terrain influenced the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopies. In the simulation model, measurement datasets, including air temperature, incoming shortwave radiation above canopy, and longwave radiation enhanced by adjacent terrain, were applied to calculate the incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopy. The simulation results were consistent with the measurements on hourly scale and daily scale. The effect of longwave radiation enhanced by terrain was important than that of shortwave radiation above forest canopy with different openness except the 20% canopy openness. The longwave radiation enhanced due to adjacent terrain increases with the slope increase and temperature rise. When air temperature(or slope) is relatively low, thelongwave radiation enhanced by adjacent terrain is not sensitive to slope(or air temperature), but the sensitivity increases with the decrease of snow cover area on sunny slope. The effect of longwave radiation is especially sensitive when the snow cover on sunny slope melts completely. The effect of incoming shortwave radiation reflected by adjacent terrain on incoming longwave radiation to snow beneath forest canopies is more slight than that of the enhanced longwave radiation. 展开更多

The results are compared with the data observed in a tracer experiment carried out in February of 1984. Today's emergence of nano-micro hybrid structures with almost biological complexity is of fundamental interest. Our ability to adapt intelligently to the challenges has ramifications all the way from fundamentally changing research itself, over applications critical to future survival, to posing globally existential dangers. Touching on specific issues such as how complexity relates to the catalytic prowess of multi-metal compounds, we discuss the increasingly urgent issues in nanotechnology also very generally and guided by the motto 'Bio Is Nature's Nanotech'. Technology belongs to macro-evolution; for example integration with artificial intelligence (AI) is inevitable. Darwinian adaptation manifests as integration of complexity, and awareness of this helps in developing adaptable research methods that can find use across a wide range of research. The second half of this work reviews a diverse range of projects which all benefited from 'playful' programming aimed at dealing with complexity. The main purpose of reviewing them is to show how such projects benefit from and fit in with the general, philosophical approach, proving the relevance of the 'big picture' where it is usually disregarded. 展开更多
