A study has been made on diffusion bonding of SiCp/2024Ai composites by means of pure Al interlayer. In the condition of TB=843 K, PB=16 MPa, tB= 60 min, the diffusion bonded joint, with a shear strength of 235 MPa, was obtained when a 15 μm thick interlayer was used. The results of the shear testing and SEM indicate that fracture of the joint presented characteristics of ductile rupture. 展开更多

In order to study themechanical properties of Z-pins reinforced laminated composite single-lap adhesively bonded joint under un-directional static tensile load, damage failure analysis of the joint was carried out bymeans of test and numerical simulation. The failure mode and mechanism of the joint were analyzed by tensile failure experiments.According to the experimental results, the joint exhibits mixed failure, and the ultimate failure is Z-pins pulling out of the adherend. In order to study the failure mechanism of the joint, the finite element method is used to predict the failure strength. The numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental results, and the error is 6.0%,which proves the validity of the numerical model.Through progressive damage failure analysis,it is found that matrix tensile failure of laminate at the edge of Z-pins occurs first, then adhesive layer failure-proceeds at the edge of Z-pins,and finally matrix-fiber shear failure of the laminate takes place. With the increase of load, the matrix-fiber shear failure expands gradually in the X direction, and at the same time, the matrix tensile failure at the hole edge gradually extends in different directions, which is consistent with the experimental results. 展开更多

In engineering practice, analysis of interfacial thermal stresses in composites is a crucial task for assuring structural integrity when sever environmental temperature changes under operations. In this article, the directly transformed boundary integrals presented previously for treating generally anisotropic thermoelasticity in two-dimension are fully regularized by a semi-analytical approach for modeling thin multi-layers of anisotropic/isotropic composites, subjected to general thermal loads with boundary conditions prescribed. In this process,an additional difficulty, not reported in the literature, arises due to rapid fluctuation of an integrand in the directly transformed boundary integral equation. In conventional analysis, thin adhesives are usually neglected due to modeling difficulties.A major concern arises regarding the modeling error caused by such negligence of the thin adhesives. For investigating the effect of the thin adhesives considered, the regularized integral equation is applied for analyzing interfacial stresses in multiply bonded composites when thin adhesives are considered.Since all integrals are completely regularized, very accurate integration values can be still obtained no matter how the source point is close to the integration element.Comparisons are made for some examples when the thin adhesives are considered or neglected.Truly, this regularization task has laid sound fundamentals for the boundary element method to efficiently analyze the interfacial thermal stresses in 2D thin multiply bonded anisotropic composites. 展开更多

KAl(7075)alloy/Mg(AZ31)alloy laminated composite plates were successfully fabricated by the equalchannelangular processing(ECAP)by using route A for 1,2,and 3 passes at 573 K,respectively. After fabrication, the 1-pass ECAPed laminated composite plates were annealed at different temperatures. The microstructure evolution, phase constituent, and bonding strength near the joining interface of Al(7075)alloy/Mg(AZ31)alloy laminated composites plates were evaluated with scanning electron microscopy,X-ray diffraction, and shear tests. The experimentalresults indicated that a 20 μm diffusion layer was observed at the joining interface of Al(7075)alloy/Mg(AZ31)alloy laminated composites plates fabricated by the 1-pass ECAP,which mainly included Al_3Mg_2 and Mg_(17)Al_(12) phases. With the increase of passes, the increase of diffusion layer thickness was not obvious and the form of crack in these processes led to the decrease of bonding strength. For 1-pass ECAPed composites, the thickness of diffusion layer remained unchanged after annealed at 473 K,while the bonding strength reached its maximum value 29.12 MPa.However, after elevating heat treatment temperature to 573 K,the thickness of diffusion layer increased rapidly, and thus the bonding strength decreased. 展开更多

With the use of Ti/Ni/Cu/Ni multiple foils as interlayer,carbon/carbon(C/C) composite was bonded to Nibased superalloy GH3044 by partial transient liquid-phase bonding technique. The effect of bonding temperature on the microstructures and strengths of the joints was investigated. The results showed that gradient structural multiple interlayers composed of ‘‘C–Ti reaction layer/Ti–Ni intermetallic compound layer/Ni–Cu sosoloid/residual Cu layer/Ni-GH3044 diffusion layer'' were formed between C/C composite and GH3044.The shear strength of the C/C composite/GH3044 joint reached the highest value of 26.1 MPa when the bonding temperature was 1,030 °C.In addition, the fracture morphology showed that the fracture mode changed with the increase of bonding temperature. 展开更多

The isotropic adhesive exhibits viscous behavior to stimulate the poor curing of the middle layer. Viscosity is assumed to vary linearly with frequency, implying that attenuation per wavelength is constant. Attenuation can be implemented in the analysis through modification of elastic properties of isotropic adhesive. The new properties become complex, but cause no further complications in the analysis. The characteristic equation is the same as that used for the elastic plate case, except that both real and imaginary parts of the wave number (i.e., the attenuation) must be computed. Based on the Lowe’s solution in finding the complex roots of characteristic equation, the effect of longitudinal and shear attenuation coefficients of the middle adhesive layer on phase velocity dispersion curves and attenuation dispersion curves of Lamb waves propagating in bonded anisotropic composites is visualized numerically. 展开更多

New carbon bonded filters with “active and reactive coatings ” for higher filtration efficiency of alumina based inclusions as well as nano-engineered filters with nano-scaled additives are explored with the aid of impingement tests and are evaluated according to their cold crushing strengths at room temperature. The combination of carbon nanotubes and alumina nanosheets additives leads to in situ formation of Al3 CON. Both the nanoscaled additives as well as the extra alumina “active”coating lead to improved mechanical performance of the carbon bonded filters and open the horizon for filter macrostructures with higher filtration capacities in means of bigger dimensions. In a further step MWCNT( multi walled carbon nanotubes) in combination with a synthetic pitch have been used as a functional coating on the surface of alumina carbon bonded filters. These filters have then been evaluated also with uncoated filters in a special casting simulator and the interactions between steel and filtering material have been investigated. 展开更多

Anisotropic NdFeB/SmCoCuFeZr composite bonded magnets were prepared by warm compaction process. The effects of adding SmCoCuFeZr magnetic powder on the properties of anisotropic bonded NdFeB magnet were investigated in this work. The results show that, both magnetic properties and temperature stability of the bonded magnet can be improved by adding fine SmCoCuFeZr magnetic powder. In the present study, the optimal content of SmCoCuFeZr magnetic powder was about 20 wt.%, in this case, the Br, Hcj, and(BH)maxof the NdFeB/SmCoCuFeZr composite magnet achieved 0.943 T, 1250 kA/m, and168 kJ/m^3, respectively. 展开更多
