Tri-modal death distribution towards personalized management of intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct patients:Every story has its own conclusion

The concept of intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct(IPNB)has gained recognition as a discrete entity[1,2],possessing many features including multiplicity[3,4],mucin production[3],slow progression[3,5],various morphology[6,7],easy sloughing and seeding[8],and having unique risk factors[2,9-11].We have previously proposed a morphologic classification[6]and a progression model of IPNB[12].

Conclusions in Theory and Practice for Advancing the Applications of Cable-Driven Mechanisms

The theoretical research of cable-driven mechanisms is developed with its broad applications. The first prototype of cable-driven mechanisms is RoboCrane, which was developed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology （NIST）. Then many excellent properties were developed and they have a variety of applications such as aerospace, aircraft and automobile industries [1]. Example application for RoboCrane in the field of aircraft mainte- nance is equipped with a quick-change mechanism to remove the robot arm remotely.

The FAHP-based Risk Assessment in the Conclusion of Equipment Procurement Contract

The risk assessment of contract conclusion is the primary and key part of equipment purchase contract risk management. In this paper, based on the fuzzy characteristics of contract risks, and overcoming the traditional disadvantages of analytic hierarchy process （AHP）, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process （FAHP） of contract conclusion is proposed for meeting the actual need of equipment procurement contract risk assessment, and implementing the risk factors qualitative and quantitative assessments of different working nodes in contract conclusion. Thus, a scientific and reliable important basis is provided for the risk management of equipment procurement contract.

Academic Identity Construction in Writing the Discussion & Conclusion Section of L2 Theses: Case Studies of Chinese Social Science Doctoral Students

There has been an increasing interest in studying thesis writing genre in the past two decades, however, the study on how social science doctoral students construct their academic identity in 12 thesis writing still remains underexplored to date. This paper attempts to fill the gap by examining the ways in which a cohort of Chinese social science doctoral students constructed their academic identity in the process of drafting, revising, and shaping the Discussion ＆ Conclusion section of their L2 theses. The study adopted multi-case approaches and in-depth interviews. It found that the process of the students＇ academic identity construction was fluid and dynamic. These students gradually evolved from novice student writers at the initial stage to more skilled academic writers at the later stage. The findings generated from this study offer significant implications for L2 writing pedagogy in China.

Dear Editor,We have read with interest the article by Li et al[1].In the response to this article[1]which is a well thought out and written paper,I would like to draw attention to some critical points in this study and add some comments to the results and the conclusion of the study which authors have detected.In the Li et al’s[1]study,it is detected that,choroidal thickness is significantly negatively correlated with body mass index(BMI)and choroidal thickness is decreased in people with overweight or obesity.

Research on Economic Impact of Super Rice on Rice Growers and Contribution to Food Security

Super rice is an essendal part of China＇s rice production. Through survey on actual situation of 1568 households of rice growers in Heilongjiang, Hunan and Zhejiang provinces, this paper focused on influence of super rice development on increase of China＇s grain yield, influence on increase of rice growers＇ economic in- come, difference in production cost and profit between the North and the South, as well as profit percentage of super rice in production, processing, and sales. It obtained following results： rice price determines rice growers＇ income; expansion of super rice extension area plays a great role in increase of China＇s grain yield; by 2015 and 2020, keeping the yield of other crops not changed, merely the extension of super rice can increase grain for 5 million tons and 11 million tons separately; super rice significantly increases rice growers＇ economic income; for production cost of super rice, the South is higher than the North, and the profit ratio of cost is up to 35.54% on average; with respect of profit in production, processing, and sales, the ratio is 1：2：1.5; with the yield of other crops unchanged, every increase of 1% in area percentage of super rice to rice will additionally produce 1 million tons of grain for China, which is equivalent to saving the yield of 133 300 hm2 farmland and can additional feed 3.5 million people. In view of importance of super rice production, at the same time of strengthening research on super rice variety, it is required to accelerate expanding production area of super rice in suitable areas. Since the development of super rice can support China＇s ration demand of increasing population, China should make effort to realize ＂one yuan for one mu＂ financial subsidy for super rice of main grain production provinces and counties. Besides, China should establish special financial plan for extension of super rice.

CRETACEOUS-TERTIARY DESERTS IN SOUTHWESTERN CHINA AND DESERT SEDIMENTOLOGY

The special issue deals with the Cretaceous-Tertiary deserts in southwestern China and relevant sedimentological problems about deserts. The study area is located between 101°10＇- 107°00＇E and 28°00＇-30°40′ N. The ancient desert study is so little in China that there has not been a systematic report about it up to now. Based on the study in many ways on Cretaceous-Tertiary deserts in southwestern China, plentiful data have been obtained. Though it is still a bit rough, the study is a good beginning of the ancient desert study in China. The main ideas and conclusions are summarized as follows.

Reply to the Comment on "Improvement of Controlled Bidirectional Quantum Direct Communication Using a GHZ State" [Chin. Phys. Lett. 30 (2013) 040305]

Most recently,Liu and Chen[Chin.Phys.Lett.30(2013)079901]used the tool of information theory to analyze the security of our two improved versions of the MX protocol[Chin.Phys.Lett.30(2013)040305],and they found out that our two improved versions still have the information leakage problem.After revisiting them with the tool of information theory again,with respect to the security,we draw the same conclusion as Liu and Chen.In addition,we point out that how to use a single quantum state as the sole quantum resource to design a bidirectional quantum secure direct communication protocol without information leakage is still a big challenge that needs to be solved.

Looking through any exercise science journals today,in fact any science journals including many top Science Citation Index(SCI) journals,one can easily find examples of the wide-spread "p【0.05/significance" abuse phenomenon,i.e., if the p value from a statistical/hypothesis test is less than 0.05(or 0.01 sometimes),a conclusion that "the results/ findings are significant" is then drawn.The abuse is so severe that it is already seriously threatening the integrity of scientific inquiry.

Instability from Steady and Axisymmetric to Steady and Asymmetric Floating Half Zone Convection in a Fat Liquid Bridge of Larger Prandtl Number

The linear instability analysis of the present paper shows that the thermocapillary convection in a half floating zone of larger Prandtl number has a steady instability mode ωi = 0 and m = 1 for a fat liquid bridge V = 1.2 with small geometrical aspect ratio A = 0.6. This conclusion is different from the usual idea of hydrothermal instability, and implies that the instability of the system may excite a steady and axial asymmetric state before the onset of oscillation in the case of large Prandtl number.
