Computational intelligence is one of the most powerful data processing tools to solve complex nonlinear problems, and thus plays a significant role in intelligent fault diagnosis and prediction. However, only few com- prehensive reviews have summarized the ongoing efforts of computational intelligence in machinery condition moni- toring and fault diagnosis. The recent research and devel- opment of computational intelligence techniques in fault diagnosis, prediction and optimal sensor placement are reviewed. The advantages and limitations of computational intelligence techniques in practical applications are dis- cussed. The characteristics of different algorithms are compared, and application situations of these methods are summarized. Computational intelligence methods need to be further studied in deep understanding algorithm mech- anism, improving algorithm efficiency and enhancing engineering application. This review may be considered as a useful guidance for researchers in selecting a suit- able method for a specific situation and pointing out potential research directions. 展开更多

Nowadays,renewable energy has been emerging as the major source of energy and is driven by its aggressive expansion and falling costs.Most of the renewable energy sources involve turbines and their operation and maintenance are vital and a difficult task.Condition monitoring and fault diagnosis have seen remarkable and revolutionary up-gradation in approaches,practices and technology during the last decade.Turbines mostly do use a rotating type of machinery and analysis of those signals has been challenging to localize the defect.This paper proposes a new hybrid model wherein multiple swarm intelligence models have been evaluated to optimize the conventional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)model in classifying the faults from the vibration signals data acquired from the gearbox.This helps to analyze the performance and behavioral patterns of the system more effectively and efficiently which helps to suggest for replacement of the unit with higher precision.The results have demonstrated that the proposed hybrid modeling approach is effective in classifying the faults of the gearbox from the time series data and achieve higher diagnostic accuracy in comparison to the conventional LSTM methods. 展开更多

In order to raise the efficiency,automatization and intelligentization of condition monitoring and fault diagnosis for complex equipment systems,rough set theory is used to the field. A feature reduction algorithm based on rough set theory is adopted to extract condition information in monitoring and diagnosis for an engine,so that the technology condition monitoring parameters are optimized. The decision tables for each fault source are built and the diagnosis rules rooting in rough set reduction is applied to carry through intelligent fault diagnosis. The cases studied show that rough set method in condition monitoring and fault diagnosis can lighten the work burden in feature selection and afford advantages for autonomic learning and decision during diagnosis. 展开更多

From the point of view to construct an intelligent machine with self-monitoring and self-diagnosis abilities, the technology for realizing an internet oriented embedded intelligent condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system for the rotating machine with remote monitoring, diagnosis, maintenance and upgrading functions is introduced systematically. Based on the DSP ( Digital Signal Processor) and embedded microcomputer, the system can measure and store the machine work status in real time, such as the rotating speed and vibration, etc. In the system, the DSP chip is used to do the fault signal processing and feature extraction, and the embedded microcomputer with a customized Linux operation system is used to realize the internet oriented remote software upgrading and system maintenance. Embedded fault diagnosis software based on mobile agent technology is also designed in the system, which can interconnect with the remote fault diagnosis center to realize the collaborative diagnosis. The embedded condition monitoring and fault diagnosis technology proposed in this paper will effectively improve the intelligence degree of the fault diagnosis system. 展开更多

Intelligent machinery fault diagnosis methods have been popularly and successfully developed in the past decades,and the vibration acceleration data collected by contact accelerometers have been widely investigated.In many industrial scenarios,contactless sensors are more preferred.The event camera is an emerging bio-inspired technology for vision sensing,which asynchronously records per-pixel brightness change polarity with high temporal resolution and low latency.It offers a promising tool for contactless machine vibration sensing and fault diagnosis.However,the dynamic vision-based methods suffer from variations of practical factors such as camera position,machine operating condition,etc.Furthermore,as a new sensing technology,the labeled dynamic vision data are limited,which generally cannot cover a wide range of machine fault modes.Aiming at these challenges,a novel dynamic vision-based machinery fault diagnosis method is proposed in this paper.It is motivated to explore the abundant vibration acceleration data for enhancing the dynamic vision-based model performance.A crossmodality feature alignment method is thus proposed with deep adversarial neural networks to achieve fault diagnosis knowledge transfer.An event erasing method is further proposed for improving model robustness against variations.The proposed method can effectively identify unseen fault mode with dynamic vision data.Experiments on two rotating machine monitoring datasets are carried out for validations,and the results suggest the proposed method is promising for generalized contactless machinery fault diagnosis. 展开更多

To maintain the stability of the inter-satellite link for gravitational wave detection,an intelligent learning monitoring and fast warning method of the inter-satellite link control system failure is proposed.Different from the traditional fault diagnosis optimization algorithms,the fault intelligent learning method pro-posed in this paper is able to quickly identify the faults of inter-satellite link control system despite the existence of strong cou-pling nonlinearity.By constructing a two-layer learning network,the method enables efficient joint diagnosis of fault areas and fault parameters.The simulation results show that the average identification time of the system fault area and fault parameters is 0.27 s,and the fault diagnosis efficiency is improved by 99.8%compared with the traditional algorithm. 展开更多

The basic idea of this method is: First map data from the original space into high-dimensional feature space via nonlinear kernel function and then extract optimal feature vector and discriminant vector in feature space and calculate the Euclidean distance between feature vectors to perform process monitoring. Similar degree between the present discriminant vector and optimal discriminant vector of fault in historical dataset is used for diagnosis. The proposed method can effectively capture the nonlinear relationship among process variables. Simulating results of the turbo generator's fault data set prove that the proposed method is effective. 展开更多

Increasing renewable energy targets globally has raised the requirement for the efficient and profitable operation of solar photovoltaic(PV)systems.In light of this requirement,this paper provides a path for evaluating the operating condition and improving the power output of the PV system in a grid integrated environment.To achieve this,different types of faults in grid-connected PV systems(GCPVs)and their impact on the energy loss associated with the electrical network are analyzed.A data-driven approach using neural networks(NNs)is proposed to achieve root cause analysis and localize the fault to the component level in the system.The localized fault condition is combined with a parallel operation of adaptive neurofuzzy inference units(ANFIUs)to develop a power mismatch-based control unit(PMCU)for improving the power output of the GCPV.To develop the proposed framework,a 10-kW single-phase GCPV is simulated for training the NN-based anomaly detection approach with 14 deviation signals.Further,the developed algorithm is combined with the PMCU implemented with the experimental setup of GCPV.The results identified 98.2%training accuracy and 43000 observations/sec prediction speed for the trained classifier,and improved power output with reduced voltage and current harmonics for the grid-connected PV operation. 展开更多

Most gear fault diagnosis(GFD)approaches su er from ine ciency when facing with multiple varying working conditions at the same time.In this paper,a non-negative matrix factorization(NMF)-theoretic co-clustering strategy is proposed specially to classify more than one task at the same time using the high dimension matrix,aiming to o er a fast multi-tasking solution.The short-time Fourier transform(STFT)is first used to obtain the time-frequency features from the gear vibration signal.Then,the optimal clustering numbers are estimated using the Bayesian information criterion(BIC)theory,which possesses the simultaneous assessment capability,compared with traditional validity indexes.Subsequently,the classical/modified NMF-based co-clustering methods are carried out to obtain the classification results in both row and column tasks.Finally,the parameters involved in BIC and NMF algorithms are determined using the gradient ascent(GA)strategy in order to achieve reliable diagnostic results.The Spectra Quest’s Drivetrain Dynamics Simulator gear data sets were analyzed to verify the e ectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

Batch process is usually monitored by the method of multi-way principal component analysis (MPCA). In this article, a new batch process monitoring and fault diagnosis method based on feature extract in Fisher subspace is proposed.The feature vector and the feature direction are extracted by projecting the high-dimension process data onto the low-dimension Fisher space. The similarity of feature vector between the current and the reference batch is calculated for on-line process monitoring and the contribution plot of weights in feature direction is calculated for fault diagnosis. The approach overcomes the need for estimating or tilling in the unknown portion of the process variables trajectories from the current time to the end of the batch. Simulation results on the benchmark model of penicillin fermentation process can demonstrate that in comparison to the MPCA method, the proposed method is more accurate and efficient for process monitoring and fault diagnosis. 展开更多

It is a challenging issue to detect bearing fault under nonstationary conditions and gear noise interferences. Meanwhile, the application of the traditional methods is limited by their deficiencies in the aspect of computational accuracy and e ciency, or dependence on the tachometer. Hence, a new fault diagnosis strategy is proposed to remove gear interferences and spectrum smearing phenomenon without the tachometer and angular resampling technique. In this method, the instantaneous dominant meshing multiple(IDMM) is firstly extracted from the time-frequency representation(TFR) of the raw signal, which can be used to calculate the phase functions(PF) and the frequency points(FP). Next, the resonance frequency band excited by the faulty bearing is obtained by the band-pass filter. Furthermore, based on the PFs, the generalized demodulation transform(GDT) is applied to the envelope of the filtered signal. Finally, the target bearing is diagnosed by matching the peaks in the spectra of demodulated signals with the theoretical FPs. The analysis results of simulated and experimental signal demonstrate that the proposed method is an e ective and reliable tool for bearing fault diagnosis without the tachometer and the angular resampling. 展开更多

This technique is based on a statistical pattern(SP) framework integrated with a self-organizing map(SOM). An SP-based SOM is used as a classifier to distinguish various states on the output map, which can visually monitor abnormal states. A case study of the Tennessee Eastman(TE) process is presented to demonstrate the fault diagnosis and process monitoring performance of the proposed method. Results show that the SP-based SOM method is a visual tool for real-time monitoring and fault diagnosis that can be used in complex chemical processes.Compared with other SOM-based methods, the proposed method can more efficiently monitor and diagnose faults. 展开更多

Gear fault diagnosis technologies have received rapid development and been effectively implemented in many engineering applications.However,the various working conditions would degrade the diagnostic performance and make gear fault diagnosis(GFD)more and more challenging.In this paper,a novel model parameter transfer(NMPT)is proposed to boost the performance of GFD under varying working conditions.Based on the previous transfer strategy that controls empirical risk of source domain,this method further integrates the superiorities of multi-task learning with the idea of transfer learning(TL)to acquire transferable knowledge by minimizing the discrepancies of separating hyperplanes between one specific working condition(target domain)and another(source domain),and then transferring both commonality and specialty parameters over tasks to make use of source domain samples to assist target GFD task when sufficient labeled samples from target domain are unavailable.For NMPT implementation,insufficient target domain features and abundant source domain features with supervised information are fed into NMPT model to train a robust classifier for target GFD task.Related experiments prove that NMPT is expected to be a valuable technology to boost practical GFD performance under various working conditions.The proposed methods provides a transfer learning-based framework to handle the problem of insufficient training samples in target task caused by variable operation conditions. 展开更多

Principal component analysis (PCA) has been widely used in multivariate statistical process monitoring for its ability to reduce processes dimensions. PCA and other statistical techniques, however, have difficulties in differentiating faults correctly in complex chemical process. Support vector machine (SVM) is a novel approach based on statistical learning theory, which has emerged for feature identification and classification. In this paper, an integrated method is applied for process monitoring and fault diagnosis, which combines PCA for fault feature extraction and multiple SVMs for identification of different fault sources. This approach is verified and illustrated on the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process as a case study. Results show that the proposed PCA-SVMs method has good diagnosis capability and overall diagnosis correctness rate. 展开更多
