This thesis mainly analyzes the content and form of Robert Morgan's postmodern poem"Mountain Graveyard". With New Criticism's method of close reading, it firstly explores the possible interpretations of the poem's content. Then it analyzes the post-modernity due to the poem's form, pointing out that with the unique form breaking traditional poetry's conventions, and the upspring of multiple meanings from the content, this poem presents brilliantly the postmodern spirit, which rejects definite centers and embraces various diversity of meaning.

How to Reproduce the Meaning of the Prose Accurately

The essence of prose lies in expressing meaning and feeling of the prose, describing things and reasoning in real,plain and direct way, which is referred as its natural character. What the prose requires is to strive to make equivalence in the meaning, forms, taste, style and other aspects with the original text. What the prose express is not only the thematic meaning but also the stylistic meaning, in other words, the meaning that was contained in the content and forms. Hilaire Belloc, a famous prolific writer and historian, have formulated the six principles in translation of prose, in which he believes that the essence of translating is the resurrection of an alien thing in a native body.

Determining Nuclear Form factor for Detection of Dark Matter in Relativistic Mean Field Theory

In this work, we derive the nuclear form factor for the spin-independent collision between the WIMPs and nucleus in terms of the relativistic mean field （RMF） theory. Comparison with the traditional form factors which are commonly used in literature is given and it is found that our results are slightly above that of the 2PF model by 4% to 8%, but deviate from the Helm form factor by 15% to 25% for the whole recoil energy spectrum of 0 -100 keV. Moreover, taking Xe and Ge as examples, we show the dependence of the form Factor on the recoil energy.

Let Mn be a closed submanifold isometrically immersed in a unit sphere Sn . Denote by R, H and S, the normalized +p scalar curvature, the mean curvature, and the square of the length of the second fundamental form of Mn, respectively. Suppose R is constant and ≥1. We study the pinching problem on S and prove a rigidity theorem for Mn immersed in Sn +pwith parallel nor- malized mean curvature vector field. When n≥8 or, n=7 and p≤2, the pinching constant is best.

Helicoidal Surfaces and Their Relationship to Bonnet Surfaces

An important question that arises is which surfaces in three-space admit a mean curvature preserving isometry which is not an isometry of the whole space. This leads to a class of surface known as a Bonnet surface in which the number of noncongruent immersions is two or infinity. The intention here is to present a proof of a theorem using an approach which is based on differential forms and moving frames and states that helicoidal surfaces necessarily fall into the class of Bonnet surfaces. Some other results are developed in the same manner.

Dual Focus on Form and Meaning in Task-based Oral English Teaching

The task-based approach has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years. Unlike the traditional language teaching approach, which puts much emphasis on the teaching and learning of language forms and skills, it regards the language process as one of learning through doing, emphasizes the central role of meaning in language use and insists that students should learn more effectively if they are fully engaged in a language task. However, due to the lack of an appropriate language environment and limited time for English study, Chinese students may not make as much progress as expected in the unconscious internalization of authentic language by focusing primarily on meaning. In fact the meaning of a language can not be separated from its form. The accurate expression of meaning depends on the proper use of language form. Therefore, in the application of the taskbased approach, we should not neglect the study of language form. This paper analyses the causes for Chinese students' low spoken English proficiency, describes the theoretical foundation and actual practice of the task-based approach, discusses its implications for teaching oral English and makes some proposals for its appropriate application.

Meaning and Form

Through the analysis of the translation of words, phrases, sentences and passages, this paper discusses the problem of whether to put emphasis on the translation of the meaning or on the reservation of the forms of the original works in translation. This paper puts forward that the translation of the meaning is more important, and the meaning of the original should take the advantage when the forms and the meanings cannot be reserved at the same time. And it also says that in no way should the translator sacrifice the translation of the meaning for the sake of keeping the form, and the translator should avoid translating word for word without thinking of the translation of the meaning. This paper also discusses about the consideration of the style of the original, the target readers and the style of the writer. This paper puts forward that in translation importance should be placed on the translation of the meaning rather than keeping the form.
