During summer Monex-79, a variety of observing systems viz. research ships, research aircrafts, constant pressure balloons and geostationary satellite etc. were deployed, besides the regular conventional observations. The purpose of these additional systems was to make the best possible data for the studies on various aspects of monsoon circulation. The present study is aimed at the construction of vertical wind profile using cloud motion vectors obtained from GOES (I-O) satellite and to examine whether the constructed wind profiles improves the representation of the monsoon system, flow pattern etc. in the objective analysis. For this purpose, climatological normals of the wind field are considered as the initial guess and the objective analyses of the wind field are made with, first using only data from conventional observations over land areas, subsequently including the constructed winds from cloud motion vectors. These analyses are then compared with the standard analyses of wind field obtained from Quick Look Atlas by T. N. Krishnamurti et al. (1979).It is inferred that satellite estimated mean wind profiles show good agreement with the mean wind profiles of the research ships with RMS errors less than 5 mps below 500 hPa and less than 8 mps above 500 hPa. It is further inferred that the inclusion of constructed winds shows a positive impact on the objective analysis and improvement is seen to be more marked in the data-sparse region of the Arabian sea. Analyses which include the constructed winds show better agreement with the standard analysis, than the analyses obtained using only conventional winds. Thus, results of our study suggest that the wind profiles constructed using cloud motion vectors are of potential use in objective analysis to depict the major circulation features over the Indian region. 展开更多

In this study, we present a PSHA(Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis) for the city of San Juan, which is located in the central-western region of Argentina(30°S-35.5°S; 66.5°W-71°W). In addition to crustal earthquakes provided by catalogues, recent paleoseismological and neotectonic investigations have permitted to consider events which occurred during the last 400 years.Four seismogenic sources that could cause damages to the studied site corresponding to Precordillera,Western Sierras Pampeanas, Basement of the Cuyana Basin and Cordillera Principal were identified.Based on the evaluation of the contribution of these sources, maximum moment magnitudes above 7.5(Mw) are expected.High values of SA(spectral acceleration)(0.2 and 1 s periods) and PGA(peak ground acceleration) were found in the city of San Juan, which suggests that it is located in a zone of high seismic hazard. Finally, the obtained SA spectra were compared with the seismic-resistant construction standards of Argentina INPRES-CIRSOC 103 [1]. Results suggest that for the city of San Juan and for a return period of475 years, it covers the seismic requirements of the structures. 展开更多

The current work proposes a new and constructive proof for the Caratheodory's theorem on existence and uniqueness of trajectories of dynamical systems. The key concern is the numerical uncertainty, i.e., the discrepancy between mathematical proofs, algorithms, and their implementations, which may affect the correct functioning of a control system. Due to growing demands on security and compliance with specifications, correctness of the control system functioning is becoming ever more important. Since in both dynamical systems and many control design approaches, one of the central notions is the system trajectory, it is important to address existence and uniqueness of system trajectories in a way which incorporates numerical uncertainty. Constructive analysis is a particular approach to formalizing numerical uncertainty and is used as the basis of the current work. The major difficulties of guaranteeing existence and uniqueness of system trajectories arise in the case of systems and controllers which possess discontinuities in time, since classical solutions to initial value problems do not exist. This issue is addressed in Caratheodory's theorem. A particular constructive variant of the theorem is proven which covers a large class of problems found in practice. 展开更多
