Though there are enormous online forums discussing such issues via Q&A but this paper is an attempt to raise the awareness about the legal issues, which a software engineer may trap into. The paper discussed the current issues with software reusability within the legal and methodological context. This paper applied an extensive literature review to critically appraise the past studies to come to a collective conclusion. Prior to discussing the issues, the benefits of reuse were mentioned, including the saving of time and cost for users. But legally the reuse of software assets creates complexities for the user in relation to meeting all the licensing requirements and dealing with the liability in case of a breach. Methodologically, there are major barriers to reused software when it comes to technical competence and managerial issues such as a lack of resources. Even when reusing software to save time, and leverage off the specialization of other authors, the end-user must also have the technical expertise to search, adapt and merge these reusable assets into the larger software infrastructure. The review ultimately shows the high barriers still remain to software reuse which could mean that smaller developers and businesses will still be reluctant to fully utilize open-source components to the best advantage.</span> </div> 展开更多

Software product lines have recently been presented as one of the best promis-ing improvements for the efficient software development. Different research works contribute supportive parameters and negotiations regarding the prob-lems of producing a perfect software scheme. Traditional approaches or recy-cling software are not effective to solve the problems concerning software competence. Since fast developments with software engineering in the past few years, studies show that some approaches are getting extensive attention in both industries and universities. This method is categorized as the software product line improvement;that supports reusing of software in big organizations. Different industries are adopting product lines to enhance efficiency and reduce operational expenses by way of emerging product developments. This research paper is formed to offer in-depth study regarding the software engineering issues such as complexity, conformity, changeability, invisibility, time constraints, budget constraints, and security. We have conducted various research surveys by visiting different professional software development organizations and took feedback from the professional software engineers to analyze the real-time problems that they are facing during the development process of software systems. Survey results proved that complexity is a most occurring issue that most software developers face while developing software applications. Moreover, invisibility is the problem that rarely happens according to the survey. 展开更多

Software and Mobile Apps as a Strategy for Productivity Improvement in the Construction Industry

However, more comprehensive research is needed to understand the effectiveness of th... The construction industry, known for its low productivity, is increasingly utilising software and mobile apps to enhance efficiency. However, more comprehensive research is needed to understand the effectiveness of these technology applications. The PRISMA principles utilised a scoping review methodology to ascertain pertinent studies and extract significant findings. From 2013 onwards, articles containing data on mobile applications or software designed to enhance productivity in the construction sector were obtained from multiple databases, including Emerald Insight, Science Direct, IEEE Xplore, and Google Scholar. After evaluating 2604 articles, 30 were determined to be pertinent to the study and were subsequently analysed for the review. The review identified five key themes: effectiveness, benefits, successful implementation examples, obstacles and limitations, and a comprehensive list of software and mobile apps. In addition, 71 software and mobile apps have shown potentially how these technologies can improve communication, collaboration, project management, real-time collaboration, document management, and on-the-go project information and estimating processes in the construction industry, increasing efficiency and productivity. The findings highlight the potential of these technologies such as Automation, Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID), Building Information Modeling (BIM), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Internet of Things (IoT) to improve efficiency and communication in the construction industry. Despite challenges such as cost, lack of awareness, resistance to change, compatibility concerns, human resources, technological and security concerns and licensing issues, the study identifies specific mobile applications and software with the potential to enhance efficiency significantly, improve productivity and streamline workflows. The broader societal impacts of construction software and mobile app development include increased efficiency, job creation, and sustainability. 展开更多

For instance, only some sections of the streets are reconstructed, the scale and de-velopment program of reconstruction are decided without any comprehensive, conceptual planning program, Thispaper attempts to analyse the reasons and defects of the past practice and some suggestions are made on improve-ment measures. QTL Ici Mapping is freely available public software capable of building high-density linkage maps and mapping quantitative trait loci(QTL) in biparental populations. Eight functionalities are integrated in this software package:(1) BIN: binning of redundant markers;(2) MAP: construction of linkage maps in biparental populations;(3) CMP: consensus map construction from multiple linkage maps sharing common markers;(4) SDL: mapping of segregation distortion loci;(5) BIP: mapping of additive, dominant, and digenic epistasis genes;(6) MET: QTL-by-environment interaction analysis;(7) CSL: mapping of additive and digenic epistasis genes with chromosome segment substitution lines; and(8) NAM: QTL mapping in NAM populations. Input files can be arranged in plain text, MS Excel 2003, or MS Excel 2007 formats. Output files have the same prefix name as the input but with different extensions. As examples, there are two output files in BIN, one for summarizing the identified bin groups and deleted markers in each bin, and the other for using the MAP functionality. Eight output files are generated by MAP, including summary of the completed linkage maps, Mendelian ratio test of individual markers, estimates of recombination frequencies, LOD scores, and genetic distances, and the input files for using the BIP, SDL,and MET functionalities. More than 30 output files are generated by BIP, including results at all scanning positions, identified QTL, permutation tests, and detection powers for up to six mapping methods. Three supplementary tools have also been developed to display completed genetic linkage maps, to estimate recombination frequency between two loci,and to perform analysis of variance for multi-environmental trials. 展开更多

The Chinese Eastern Railway(CER),which was designed by Russia in 1898 and constructed later by China,is a typical industrial cultural landscape of the 20 th century that enjoys a high uniqueness and representativeness due to its integrality and systematicness.It sits on a historic site with various kinds of resources,including architecture,railways,and other facilities.As there has been few changes with CER's route,its resources are,in fact,still serviceable to the current railway system and people living along the route.However,considering the problems,such as lack of maintenance,ignorance of the society,inappropriate renovations,etc.,attention should be paid to CER's value assessment before any reconstruction decisions are made.Although value assessment plays a very important role in the decision-making and investment-planning process,there is almost no related research on the construction of a heritage corridor along CER.Seeing that value assessment is part of the CER Heritage Corridor construction project and the values act as a reference in understanding CER as a heritage site,this paper aims to put forward a methodological guidance to identify CER's values,so that its resources will be assessed by using what we call "value typology." In addition,it also tries to promote the tools that can help to evaluate CER's values.On the basis of a methodological analysis,it finally puts forward some advices to integrating the value assessment into the decision-making process. 展开更多

Guideline of Test Suite Construction for GUI Software Centered on Grey-Box Approach

In this paper, the test suite construction for GUI (Graphical User Interface) software may be executed centered on grey-box approach with the prior test design of window access controls for unit testing, including front-end method of white box and follow-up black box method for integration testing. Moreover, two key opinions are proposed for the test suite construction for GUI software, the first one is that the “Triple-step method” should be used for unit testing with the prior disposing of data boundary value testing of input controls, and another one is that the “Grey-box approach” should be applied in integration testing for GUI software with necessary testing preparation in the precondition. At the same time, the testing of baseline version and the incremental testing should be considered for the test case construction to coordinate with the whole evolution of software product today. Additionally, all our opinion and thought are verified and tested with a typical case of GUI software—PQMS (Product Quality Monitoring Software/System), and results indicate that these methods and specific disposing are practical and effective. 展开更多

(Pierre Laurent Wantzel, 1837) obscurely presented a proof based on ideas from Galois field showing that, the solution of angle trisection corresponds to solution of the cubic equation; x3 - 3x - 1 = 0, which is geometrically irreducible [1]. The focus of this work is to show the possibility to solve the trisection of an angle by correcting some flawed methods meant for general construction of angles, and exemplify why the stated trisection impossible proof is not geometrically valid. This paper addresses the issue of software rejuvenation modeling.Rejuvenation strategies with sequential inspection periods and state multi-control limits are proposed here because the inspection-based approach involves the sampling of longer fixed periods of the state of system, which increases the probability of soft failure. The degradation process of the software system interferes with inspection and rejuvenation is modeled as a Markov chain. The steady-state probability density function of the system is thus derived, and a numerical solution of the function is provided. Expressions for mean unavailability time are derived during the inspection period when soft failure occurs. Finally, the steady-state availability of the system is modeled, and the solution to it is obtained using a genetic algorithm. The effectiveness of the model was verified by numerical experiments. Compared with rejuvenation strategies with fixed inspection periods, those with sequential inspection periods yielded greater steady-state availability of the software system. 展开更多
