The idea of a human community with a shared future was proposed by the Communist Party of China(CPC)Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core for the future development of human beings to face up to the most important question in today's world:“What is happening to the world and what should we do?”It profoundly answers the question of the world, history, and the times. The theory of a human community with a shared future is an innovative theory with a multidimensional formation logic that guides humanity toward continually seeking common interests and values. This paper dives into the profound motivations behind building a human community with a shared future from historical, cultural, and practical dimensions and analyzes its epochal value from both domestic and international perspectives. This not only helps exert China's role in the international community, contributing Chinese strength to the construction of a peaceful, stable, and prosperous human society, but also enhances the influence of the idea of a human community with a shared future in the international community, accelerating the building of a human community with a shared future that considers the legitimate concerns of all countries, and aiding in solving the crises facing the world. 展开更多

A three-year study over the Bai, Jingpo and Huayaodai communities in Yunnan Province reveals that the community development is significantly influenced in various ways by such cultural factors as the concepts of development; concepts and traditions of inter-community relationships, consumption, mar- riage and gender; patterns of decision-making and production, resource and income allocation; as well as the role of information dissemination systems, religion and ritual. Based on the analysis over the interactive relevance between each factor and community development, some strategies and methods for dealing with such a cultural relevance in development projects are recommended. 展开更多

Cultural heritage does not have direct economic benefits. However, if properly managed it can stimulate social cohesions, improving the environment and have beneficial economic spin offs for the local communities. This paper discusses the role of communities in the formulation of the policies concerning their local environment. It argues that community engagement by policy makers is important in giving legitimacy and ownership of the policies. Furthermore, this paper discusses the potential of cultural heritage in diversifying the economy in Botswana. This paper recommends for the re-assessment of the relationship between the state and local communities which is critical in resuscitating the seemingly ailing community business organizations. In conclusion, it argues for the sustainable management of cultural heritage as a social and economic resource in the next 50 years of Botswana's independence. 展开更多

The population dynamics of bacterial community was investigated in three Agricultural soils, designated as Loamy sand (A), Peaty coarse (B) and Loamy coarse sand (C) in North-East, Nigeria. The soil chemical properties were characterized to fully understand their nature. Metagenomic approach was used to extract soil DNA using the fast DNA Spin Kit extraction technique. The PCR-electrophoresed DNA bands were excised and subjected to a full scale Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis. DGGE fingerprinting for the PCR-16S rDNA product revealed a diverse profile of complex population of bacterial community in the study area. The study shows that more bacterial community can be fully investigated using molecular techniques rather than traditional culture method. The implication of the results obtained is discussed. 展开更多

Spatial and temporal distribution of abundance, community structure and succession, and mortality of zooplankton were examined in a subtropical bay—the Qinzhou Bay,Guangxi,South China,to evaluate the impact of oyster culture on zooplankton.Data on zooplankton abundance, phytoplankton biomass, and environmental parameters were collected in 12 routine samplings at four sites in the Qinzhou Bay in 2018.Results show that the hydrological environment in the estuary affected the temporal variation of zooplankton of the Qinzhou Bay.However, the oyster culture affected the spatial distributions of zooplankton. The abundance of zooplankton outside the oyster farm was higher than that inside, whereas the mortality outside the oyster farm,on the contrary, was lower than that inside.Oyster culture in the Qinzhou Bay had built a significant impact on the abundance and community composition of zooplankton, and the food shortage caused by the ingestion of oyster might exacerbate the mortality of zooplankton in the Qinzhou Bay.In addition, the large-scale oyster culture increased the spatial heterogeneity of the community structure of zooplankton inside and outside the oyster farms.Findings of this study provide a reference for future policy-making in aquaculture management. 展开更多

Increasing dependence on forest is threatening this biodiversity. Ecotourism, a biodiversity conservation strategy has the potential to restore degraded habitat, and create socio-cultural and economic benefits that improve communities’ livelihoods. This study focused on the role of community-based ecotourism in biodiversity conservation in the Mount Oku forest, of the North West region of Cameroon. The study identified and ranked livelihood activities that led to biodiversity destruction, assessed ecotourism potentials and conservation practices, identified ecotourism benefits and assessed household income levels before and after the institution of ecotourism. We randomly selected three communities from the study area. The study was guided by the Forest Management Plan, the Simple Management Plan of the Kilum/Ijim forest project and the concept of Biosphere Reservation. Descriptive statistics were simple percentages presented on tables, while the inferential statistics of Wilcoxon rank test was used to analyze the data collected for the study. Our findings reveal that, the livelihood activities that led to biodiversity destruction include agriculture, logging, fuelwood collection and grazing. Ecotourism potentials/conservation strategies were nature-based, education-based, culture-based, and agriculture-based;value chain was integrated in all these aspects which enhanced livelihood diversification. The benefits include business opportunities, infrastructure development, and forest regeneration. Income level generated after the institution of ecotourism was higher than the level of income before (Z = -1442, p = 0.001). Clear indicators need to be established to measure long-term project effectiveness in biodiversity conservation and livelihood sustainability. 展开更多

Older adult falls are a significant public health problem, but one that is amenable to preventive interventions.1,2 Despite the progress made in identifying risk factors, developing efficacious health-related interventions, and promoting evidencebased programs in the community, much work remains before these strategies are broadly available and effectively used to reduce fall-related injuries.3 As Newton and ScottFindlay4 have pointed out,the translation of basic scientific knowledge into clinical studies, and the transformation of clinical studies into improvements in health services and public health practices, remain major obstacles to widespread adoption. 展开更多

Culture,as a kind of social and historical phenomenon,is a way of being, and there are complementary characteristics between different cultures.Cultural identification in the context of"the Belt and Road Initiative"(BRI hereafter)manifests itself in the heterogeneous space during the process of constructing cultural subjectivity.Cultural identification,in such a situation, not only embodies the national character of a culture, but also contains the global hybrid. To be specific, cultural identification in cross-cultural transmission, which means overseas acceptance of Chinese culture in this sense, includes self-identity and other-identification.Through cultural dialogue,it finally points to the common shaping of culture beyond boundaries. 展开更多

The Amish are a marginal outgroup in the United States who have remained far from the center of the dominant society in their nearly 400 year history. This is in part due to a judicious acceptance and adoption of newer technologies,as these are not viewed as vales free. This highly religious community is promoted as a tourist attraction by various states where their communities flourish.Their culture seems quaint or antiquated, though this is partly due to a preference for older methods of labor and production that have stood the test of time and serve to maintain integrity of the culture. The Amish have been persecuted in past for choosing to be a non-violent culture, which has also prohibited their exposure to various technologies.Their history in America runs counter to the culture and experiences of the dominant social culture,as well as many minority cultures.Their endurance and success run counter to much of the development of social welfare milestones and policy in America.Yet,the Amish represent marginal and oppressed people in immigrant history. Many who promote their culture continue to exploit them based upon the misunderstandings of the larger society. Some who write about them perpetuate these misconceptions. This paper seeks to examine critically via the selection of available historical evidence, and through the historical observations of earlier writers raised in Amish tradition, how the Amish view themselves and concerning technology within their culture. 展开更多

The Chao Phraya River and the network of canals or “klongs” are the origin of Bangkok’s nick-name “Venice of the East”. Its amphibian nature of lower delta area where used to be covered by the sea around 5000 years ago provides a water-based settlement for the citizens. Rivers as an agricultural irrigation system are also used for daily consumption, transportation, and drainage channels. Bangkok was established in 1782 as the capital of Thailand by King Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty. The location is on a flood plain delta of the Chao Phraya River with the same consideration as the up north old capital Ayutthaya;the river is performed as a natural defense against enemies and also provides a water-based settlement for the citizens. The worst flood in Thailand’s history occurred during the 2011 monsoon season;July to November;that became the severest flood disaster hit parts of the capital city of Bangkok and resulted in a total of 815 deaths and 65 of Thailand’s 77 provinces were declared flood disaster zones, and over 20,000 square kilometers (7700 square miles) of farmland was damaged. The most affected areas were the recent capital Bangkok and the old capital Ayutthaya. The major causes were not only from the natural disaster but also water management failures from the human disaster. The studies aimed to include the survey of after-flood areas, reviewing the history of the waterfront communities and their attitudes toward development and changes, then discussed threats and crisis to the cultural landscape, the cause and effects of the disaster, the theoretical framework of the best management practices and the resolutions models proposed by the involved authorities. Whilst, history also gives us a sense of identity and traditional wisdom, the paper tried to find a paradigm shift and invented best practices for future generation flood protection using “the meaning and spirit of cultural landscape” model. 展开更多

Tropical forests provide some of the richest biodiversity amid and adjacent to the world’s poorest people as they lose access to resources when forests are designated for strict preservation.Integrated Conservation Development Projects(ICDPs)aimed at conservation and compensated communities adjacent to conserved resources through revenue sharing from the resultant economic activities.However,Community-Based Natural Resource Management(CBNRM)approaches seek to reconcile biodiversity conservation with community livelihoods strategies to reduce poverty.Nkuringo Conservation and Community Development Foundation on the Southern Fringes of Bwindi National Park in Kisoro District adopted the Community-Based Natural Resource Management model where communities benefit both financially and socially from conservation. The model provides a“win-win”situation where both human beings and wildlife benefit. The objective of this paper is to profile Nkuringo Conservation and Community Development Foundation(NCCDF)adoption of the model by analyzing the model, actors involved, the legal framework, benefits accrued, challenges, and strategies to ameliorate them. The paper adopted a case study research design and collected both qualitative and quantitative data using desk top research methods, observation, oral interviews, and focus group discussions(FGDs).The communities of Nteko and Rubuguri parishes participate in the project which has conserved the mountain gorillas and forests for tourism and diversified community livelihood through tourism, sale of handcrafts,an eco-lodge(Clouds Lodge)and commercial agriculture which contribute to poverty reduction. 展开更多

Security in international relations has been at a crossroads, especially after the end of the Cold War.National security has not been the only framework of security;human security has also occupied an important position. This“paradigm shift”of security occurred due to changes in the global security environment, such as the emergence of insecurity caused by poverty and ethnic conflict. It is obvious that national security based on a sovereign state and military forces are not enough to prevent war-fighting or to resolve its basic causes,so human security has attracted considerable attention, which complements national security.Human security needs the protection of communities in which people can find their identities and lead a peaceful life. For example,in Europe,a French riot by immigrant young people in 2005 indicated a lack of human security, where the shortage of protection of communities of immigrants under politics by the French government made the situation very serious. We present a new framework,“cultural security”,which complements human security in that the former protects communities based on each culture. It is ideal that all three dimensions of security work well as,if national security lacks,it may cause civil war or a failed state;if human security(in the narrow sense, focused on only individuals)lacks,it may lead to reinforced authoritarianism or a despotic regime;and if cultural security lacks,a civic nation would be developed but social life may be instable. 展开更多
