This paper attempts to do study on the comparison of differences between Chinese and western cultures by taking the Chinese and British clothing as an example. This comparison is made form two aspects about clothing culture. One is the separate characteristics of the Chinese and British clothing. The other is the common features of the Chinese and British clothing.The paper aims at making the Chinese confidently promote the clothing culture of China to make efforts to realize the great rejuvenation of China and enrich the culture of all mankind.

Contrastive Analysis of Chinese and British Names from the Perspective of Culture

A name can reflect a nation's history and culture. Studying the differences and similarities of names between two countries can help us have a better understanding of the two cultures and thus promote further communications. A contrastive analysis of Chinese and British names are discussed mainly from the forms, origins and the factors influencing naming. It is founded that the differences of names are closely related with history, religion, social system and values while the similarities are focus on the common things. Through the comparative analysis of the phatic communion in English and Chinese,we found that they have similar functions in their language,but the basic form and content have a big difference.This article introduces definition of phatic communion,explains that the pragmatic difference is the reflection of cultural differences between China and Western countries.

A Contrastive Study on Mark Phenomena of English and Chinese Languages

Linguistic marker is a common phenomenon, and there are different levels of markers in various languages. Mark theory was first proposed by the Prague School in 1930s, which is an important principle of language analysis system. The function and meaning of markup languages are mainly pragmatic, which have procedural meaning and no conceptual meaning. Markedness phenomenon is not only the inherent characteristics of language symbols, but also the product of social life and different cultures. Due to the great difference between cultural background and social environment of Chinese and English speaker, thus there are many similarities and differences in the language, society and culture mark. The mark phenomena of English nouns are mainly related to the category of nouns and the opposite nouns. However, Chinese nouns have no strict morphological changes. In this paper, we discuss the theory of mark phenomenon and analyze a contrastive study on mark phenomena of English and Chinese Languages.

A Comparative Study of the Cultural Connotations in Chinese and British Landscape Pastoral Poetry

This article is a comparative study of Chinese landscape pastoral poetry and British landscape pastoral poetry,focusing on their cultural connotations.Many Chinese and British poets take the theme of pastoral landscape as their creative content.By describing the natural scenery of the field,the life and work of the farmers and etc.,the poems eulogize the simplicity and purity of rural world,the happiness and unsophisticated life of farmers and also certain emotion of the poets.This kind of poetry is very prevalent among readers.However,due to the heterogeneity of Chinese and British culture,the landscape pastoral poetry created by Chinese and British poets has the same theme and description objects,but there are also marked differences in their content,artistic expression,writing techniques and the creation form that attracted lots of scholars to study.However,there have been few such studies in the differences about Chinese and British landscape pastoral poetry.To this extent,hopefully,this article may be scholastically significant in studying on the difference of their cultural connotations.

A Pilot Study on Chinese Students’Intercultural Adaption in the UK

This paper conducted a pilot study by interviewing five Chinese students who study at a British university to see how they have adapted to British culture.This paper mainly found that the'curve'theory couldn't fully reflect students'intercultural adaptation,students'failure in becoming intercultural and the language pressure they suffer.At the end of the study,some possible measurements limitations are discussed.

Cultural Identities of the Well-Educated Chinese Immigrant Children in the UK

Since the Reform and Opening-up in 1978, China has broadened and deepened its exchanges and relations with other countries. This has contributed to the increase in the migration of well-educated Chinese abroad and United Kingdom （UK） has become a most desirable destination for the elite Chinese immigrants. The impact of the migration of well-educated Chinese deserves particular attention and study, especially the second generation＇s cultural identities--this under-researched topic is the focus of this study. The study investigates the cultural identity differences between Chinese born children （CBC） and British born children （BBC） of the Chinese intellectual families living in Britain. Results indicated that both CBC and BBC had high pride in Chinese and British culture No significant evidence for cultural identity crises was found. The children investigated considered themselves as bi-culturalism and were content with ＂dual identities,＂ with the CBC a bit more Chinese, while the BBC a bit more British. Much smaller differences in views of cultural identity were reported.

伦敦华语视像艺术节(Chinese Visual Festival)成立于2011年,其创建的初衷是为了能够让英国观众看到西方主流印象之外的中国。从2011年创办到2020年因疫情原因不得不暂停举办,伦敦华语视像艺术节展映的影片类型与题材均称得上多样。参展伦敦华语视像艺术节的电影人/艺术家的身份背景也有较大差异,还有一些鲜少在欧美国际电影节上露面,但在国内成绩斐然的导演。伦敦华语视像艺术节将电影放映与艺术展、音乐会和学术座谈会相结合,通过体系的开放性拒绝呈现“东方主义”视角下异域化、单一化和刻板化的中国影像,对中国艺术电影的展映将重点从单一的中国现实展现转移到对影像艺术中包括现实主义美学在内的各类美学模型的反思与质询,为中国艺术电影在西方世界的传播提供了新的可能性。
