Some drying experiments, using one sample, were carried out. During the experiments, the sample is introduced in the drying chamber. Then at steady time intervals, the sample is withdrawn from the drying chamber, for a rapid weighing. After each weighing, the sample is reintroduced in the dryer. At each time interval, the ambient temperature of the drying chamber and its relative humidity γ are measured by a thermo-hygrometer. From the experimental data, a theoretical determination of the moisture evaporated from the product was performed and a good agreement was found between the theoretical and experimental values, confirmed by the value of the RMSE. Those calculations used the constants in the Nusselt number found in literature. Then those constants were evaluated again, to get new values more suitable with the experimental data. The dimensionless numbers of Nusselt, Grashof and Prandtl were calculated. That allowed the calculation of the average value of the Nusselt number. The average convective heat transfer coefficient was determined.展开更多

The heat transfer enhancement factor was found to increase with the jet-to-cross-flow mass ratio and the Reynolds number, but decrease with the jet diameter when other parameters maintain fixed. The presence of a cross flow was observed to degrade the heat transfer performance in respect to the effect of impinging jet to the target surface only. In addition, an impinging jet was confirmed to be capable of enhancing the heat transfer process in considerable amplitude even though the jet was not designed to impinge on the target surface.展开更多

By means of heat-mass transfer analogy and the naphthalene sublimation technique, the local heat transfer distribution and the mean heat transfer coefficient are clarified. Moreover, the effect of axis ratio on mean heat transfer coefficient was investigated tentatively. The problem was solved for two main cases. In the first case, heat generation was assumed variable by fin temperature for a solid fin and in second heat generation varied with temperature for a porous fin. The effects of important design parameters such as the shape of heat absorbing cylinder and heat releasing fin on the pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient were analyzed with different Reynolds numbers. The Reynolds numbers were varied from 103 to 3x106, which was defined based on the hydraulic diameter of the heat absorbing cylinder. Analyses were performed to obtain the inner and outer flow and the temperature distributions in the heat absorbing cylinder and the rates of radiation heat transfer and convection heat transfer. As the Reynolds number increases, the convection heat transfer rate is increased while the radiation heat transfer rate is decreased. The average convection heat transfer rate follows a power rule of the Reynolds number. Addition of three-dimensional heat releasing fin to the outside of the heat absorbing cylinder enhances the convection heat transfer.展开更多

The channel is filled with a porous viscous fluid. Two cases of equal and different external convection coefficients on the walls are taken into account. Effect of viscous dissipation is also considered. The governing equations are derived employing long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximations. And, for Bi1>Bi2 and Br>Brc, the temperature of the cold wall exceeds the temperature of hot wall.展开更多

This study aims to apply high-temperature steam heating mechanism in a high-efficient industrial furnace and household gas range. Past studies in this laboratory show that the heat transfer is promoted due to the appropriate amount of water content in each convection, radiation heat transfer. Then, water vapor-added industrial metal melting furnace has been researched. However, the existing furnace was intended to evaluate only the effect of water vapor except measuring surrounding environment, for example temperature and humidity. In this study, the effect of surrounding environment to the furnace is examined, and possibility of heat transfer enhancement is estimated. As a result, surrounding experimental condition has little effect on the change of heating ability, while this experimental furnace shows gradual degradation of heating ability in every experimental trial. Then optimum amount of water supply to the apparatus was discussed. Too much water injection leads to more consumption of heat as latent heat of water in phase change, and exceeds the effect of water vapor in heat transfer. There is a possibility of suitable total water supply, despite that there is no significant change in gas usage in water injection case compared with no water injection.展开更多

During the both flooding cases, although the geopotential height anomalies always exhibit equivalent barotropic structures in middle to high latitudes at middle and upper troposphere, the phase of the Rossby wave train is different over Eurasian continent. During flooding in the Huaihe River valley, only one single blocking anticyclone is located over Baikal Lake. In contrast, during flooding in the Yangtze River valley, there are two blocking anticyclones. One is over the Ural Mountains and the other is over Northeast Asia. In the lower troposphere a positive geopotential height anomaly is located at the western ridge of subtropical anticyclone over Western Pacific (SAWP) in both flooding cases, but the location of the height anomaly is much farther north and west during the Huaihe River mei-yu flooding. Fhrthermore, abnormal rainfall in the Huaihe River valley and the regions north of it in China is closely linked with the latent heating anomaly over the Arabian Sea and Indian peninsula. However, the rainfall in the Yangtze River valley and the regions to its south in China is strongly related to the convection over the western tropical Pacific. Numerical experiments demonstrated that the enhanced latent heating over the Arabian Sea and Indian peninsula causes water vapor convergence in the region south of Tibetan Plateau and in the Huaihe River valley extending to Japan Sea with enhanced precipitation; and vapor divergence over the Yangtze River valley and the regions to its south with deficient precipitation. While the weakened convection in the tropical West Pacific results in moisture converging over the Yangtze River and the region to its south, along with abundant rainfall.展开更多

Thermal error is the key factor affecting the machining accuracy of the spindle, and research has focused on spindle thermal errors through examination of the influence of the temperature distribution, thermal deformation and spindle mode. However, seldom has any research investigated the thermal effects of the associated Couette flow. To study the heat transfer mechanism in spindle systems, the criterion of the heat transfer direction according to the temperature distribution of the Couette flow at different temperatures is deduced. The method is able to deal accurately with the significant phenomena occurring at every place where thermal energy flowed in such a spindle system. The variation of the motion error induced by thermal effects on a machine work-table during machining is predicated by establishing the thermo-mechanical error model of the hydrostatic spindle for a high precision machine tool. The flow state and thermal behavior of a hydrostatic spindle is analyzed with the evaluated heat power and the coefficients of the convective heat transfer over outer surface of the spindle are calculated, and the thermal influence on the oil film stiffness is evaluated. Thermal drift of the spindle nose is measured with an inductance micrometer, the thermal deformation data 1.35 μm after running for 4 h is consistent with the value predicted by the finite element analysis’s simulated result 1.28 μm, and this demonstrates that the simulation method is feasible. The thermal effects on the processing accuracy from the flow characteristics of the fluid inside the spindle are analyzed for the first time.展开更多

文摘The current study generally aims to improve heat transfer in heat sinks by presenting a numerical analysis of natural convection of an enclosure with hot right and cool left walls, and thermally insulated top and bottom walls. The cold wall included configurations(half circle/half square)in various sizes(S=0.1,0.2,and 0.3),numbers(N=1,2,3,and 4),and locations(C=0.35,and 0.65).A heat sink is constructed of Aluminum attached to the hot wall, and composed of five fins with protrusions.Fins of the heat sink will be examined in a solid and porous structure. The enclosure is filled with a hybrid nanofluid of Nanoparticles(MWCNT and Fe3O4)and water. The current study utilized COMSOL Multiphysics software due to its efficacy in addressing scientific and technical challenges involving partial differential equations. The solving of the governing equations is achieved using the finite element method with various parameters:Rayleigh number(Ra=10^(3)–10^(6)),Darcy number(Da=10^(-2),10^(-3)),solid volume fraction(ϕ=0–0.06)to determine stream function, isotherms lines, and average Nusselt number(Nu).The results of numerical simulations show that heat sink with solid fins have a 97%higher stream function when Ra is raised from 10^(3) to 105.Whilst with porous fin heat sink,a stream function 96%for Da=10^(-3) and 94%for Da=10^(-2).Changing solid fins to porous increases stream functions by 9%at Da=10^(-3) and 20%at Da=10^(-2).It has been found that Ra increases Nu by 44%for solid fins and 50%for porous fins.Making solid fins porous increases Nu by 54%at Ra=10^(6).The high increase in the percentage of(Nu)indicates the importance of the improvement in heat transfer, and this distinguishes the results of the current study from previous studies.Nu values were found highest for(half square)compared to(half circle),with 2%increases for numbers,11.6%for sizes, and 11%for location.Solid volume fractions for all Ra at a solid-finned heat sink increased Nu by 23%.
文摘Numerical predictions are made for Laminar Forced convection heat transfer with and without buoyancy effects for Supercritical Nitrogen flowing over an isothermal horizontal flat plate with a heated surface facing downwards.Computations are performed by varying the value ofΔT from5 to 30 K and P_(∞)/P_(cr)ratio from1.1 to 1.5.Variation of all the thermophysical properties of supercritical Nitrogen is considered. The wall temperatures are chosen in such a way that two values of Tw are less than T∗(T*is the temperature at which the fluid has a maximum value of Cp for the given pressure),one value equal to T∗and two values greater than T∗.Three different values of U∞are used to obtain Re∞range of 3.6×10_(4)to 4.74×10^(5)for forced convection without buoyancy effects and Gr_(∞)/Re^(2)_(∞)range of 0.011 to 3.107 for the case where buoyancy effects are predominant.Six different forms of correlations are proposed based on numerical predictions and are compared with actual numerical predictions. It has been found that in all six forms of correlations, the maximum deviations are found to occur in those cases where the pseudocritical temperature TT∗lies between the wall temperature and bulk fluid temperature.

文摘The significant differences of atmospheric circulation between flooding in the Huaihe and Yangtze River valleys during early mei-yu (i.e., the East Asian rainy season in June) and the related tropical convection were investigated. While the weakened convection in the tropical West Pacific results in moisture converging over the Yangtze River and the region to its south, along with abundant rainfall.

文摘Hydrostatic spindles are increasingly used in precision machine tools. The thermal effects on the processing accuracy from the flow characteristics of the fluid inside the spindle are analyzed for the first time.
