This paper presents a method for actualizing a standard low-cost loop calibrator for the famous 4-20 mA electrical signaling scheme. The loop calibrator generates a linear current signal from 4 to 20 mA over a 250 ? typical process instrument load for calibration. The realization of the loop calibrator relies on a voltage-to-current converter to build a constant current source. The voltage controlled constant current source is built from discrete components and an op-amp to keep the cost low. Results from simulations and the prototype demonstrate the performance of the 4-20 mA loop calibrator which utilizes a greatly reduced number of components. The cost of these components is approximately 34% of the least expensive calibrator sampled, though other production costs are not included. This conclusion reinforces the fact that loop calibrators can be cheaper.展开更多

Three modules, called the α-β-γT filter model, adaptive loop structure mod- el and adaptive loop bandwidth model respectively, are added in the presented tracking loop com- pared with the traditional carrier tracking loop based on the second-order frequency lock loop (FLL) assisting third-order phase lock loop (PLL) loop filter. And the optimization methods for the track- ing bandwidth and the carrier loop order are analyzed. The real-time estimation methods of the dy- namic parameters, the velocity, acceleration and jerk along the line of sight (LOS) between the sat- ellite and the receiver' s antenna, and the measurement parameters are discussed based on the pres- ented α-β-γ filter algorithm. A method is introduced to improve the filter' s dynamic response to meet high dynamic application by self-adjusted α-β-γ filter coefficient used in the tracking loop. The performance of three cases with different carrier tracking loop is compared by simulation.展开更多

The study presents a new method to predict crash likelihood with traffic data collected by discrete loop detectors as well as the web-crawl weather data. Matched case-control method and support vector machines (SVMs) technique were employed to identify the risk status. The adaptive synthetic over-sampling technique was applied to solve the imbalanced dataset issues. Random forest technique was applied to select the contributing factors and avoid the over-fitting issues. The results indicate that the SVMs classifier could successfully classify 76.32% of the crashes on the test dataset and 87.52% of the crashes on the overall dataset, which were relatively satisfactory compared with the results of the previous studies. Compared with the SVMs classifier without the data, the SVMs classifier with the web-crawl weather data increased the crash prediction accuracy by 1.32% and decreased the false alarm rate by 1.72%, showing the potential value of the massive web weather data. Mean impact value method was employed to evaluate the variable effects, and the results are identical with the results of most of previous studies. The emerging technique based on the discrete traffic data and web weather data proves to be more applicable on real- time safety management on freeways.展开更多

It mainly consists of a velocity tracking loop and a digital signal processing auxiliary channel. With many signal processing techniques, the system successfully solves the signal detection and tracking at low SNR and the interference identification and rejection. The idea of system design is introduced in detail. Finally, some simulation and experimental results are presented.展开更多
