Investigation of power-type variational principles in liquid-filled system 被引量:1

Starting from the basic equations of hydrodynamics, the maximum power- type variational principle of the hydrodynamics of viscous fluids was established by Weizang CHIEN in 1984. Through long-term research, it is clarified that the maximum power-type variational principle coincides with the Jourdian principle, which is one of the common principles for analytical mechanics. In the paper, the power-type variational principle is extended to rigid-body dynamics, elasto-dynamics, and rigid-elastic:liquid coupling dynamics. The governing equations of the rigid-elastic-liquid coupling dynamics in the liquid-filled system are obtained by deriving the stationary value conditions. The results show that, with the power-type variational principles studied directly in the state space, some transformations in the time domain space may be omitted in the establishing process, and the rigid-elastic-liqUid coupling dynamics can be easily numerically modeled. Moreover, the analysis of the coupling dynamics in the liquid-filled system in this paper agrees well with the numerical analyses of the coupling dynamics in the liquid-filled system offered in the literatures. 展开更多

Based on the generalized variational principle of magneto-thermo-elasticity of the ferromagnetic elastic medium, a nonlinear coupling theoretical modeling for a ferromagnetic thin shell is developed. All governing equations and boundary conditions for the ferromagnetic shell are obtained from the variational manipulations on the magnetic scalar potential, temperature and the elastic displacement related to the total energy functional. The multi-field couplings and geometrical nonlinearity of the ferromagnetic thin shell are taken into account in the modeling. The general modeling can be further deduced to existing models of the magneto-elasticity and the thermo-elasticity of a ferromagnetic shell and magneto-thermo-elasticity of a ferromagnetic plate, which are coincident with the ones in literature. 展开更多

Separation work analysis of cohesive law and consistently coupled cohesive law

An appropriate coupled cohesive law for predicting the mixed mode failure is established by combining normal separation and tangential separation of surfaces in the cohesive zone model (CZM) and the cohesive element method. The Xu-Needleman exponential cohesive law with the fully shear failure mechanism is one of the most popular models. Based on the proposed consistently coupled rule/principle, the Xu-Needleman law with the fully shear failure mechanism is proved to be a non-consistently coupled cohesive law by analyzing the surface separation work. It is shown that the Xu-Needleman law is only valid in the mixed mode fracture when the normal separation work equals the tangential separation work. Based on the consistently coupled principle and the modification of the Xu-Needleman law, a consistently coupled cohesive (CCC) law is given. It is shown that the proposed CCC law has already overcome the non-consistency defect of the Xu-Needleman law with great promise in mixed mode analyses. 展开更多

Traditional Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) theory can not deal with dynamic problems concerned with non-conservatively coupled systems. In this paper, based on the theory of power flow between them and energy distribution in non-conservatively coupled osillators, equations of power balance and those for calculation of each concerned power flow and other power items are derived to develop SEA theory for non-conscrvativcly coupled systems. Results show that conservative coupling is only a special case of non-conservative coupling situations, effect of coupling damping on power flow and energy distribution in non-conservatively coupled systems arc not negligible unless coupling damping is much smaller compared with internal one. As an application of the theory, energy problems of non-conservatively coupled plates are studied theoretically and experimentally. 展开更多
