Investigation on Bending and Creasing of Woven Fabrics under Low Curvature

Under the assumption of semi - circular form for a fabric bend, creasing of fabric strips and compression of fabric loops are analyzed by neglecting the structural complexity of the fabric. The relationship between the creasing force and deformation are deduced using an energy method and solutions are given for a linearly elastic material with constant internal frictional constraint. The agreements between the theoretical predictions and experimental results are very satisfactory.

MOC Calls for Increasing Exports

A Comparative Study in the Outcome of Primary Asian Blepharoplasty with and without Fat Removal

Background: Asian Blepharoplasty (AB) is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures today. Despite the increasing demand for AB and advancements in surgical techniques, creating an optimal upper eyelid crease remains difficult. This study aimed to determine whether removing the preaponeurotic fat pad (PAF) had any effect on the revision surgery rates following primary Asian blepharoplasty. Methods: A retrospective comparative analysis was conducted on patients who underwent primary AB between January 2016 and December 2020. Patients were divided into PAF removed and PAF not removed groups. The outcomes in the groups were compared by the frequency of revision surgery following primary AB using the chi-square test (p Results: The study included 480 patients, 442 (92%) female and 38 (8%) male, and the final outcome was evaluated after 6 months postoperatively. 412 (86%) patients were observed to have PAF pads intraoperatively, while 68 (14%) had minimal/no PAF pads. In total, 115 (24%) patients underwent revision surgery, of whom 31 (27%) had PAF removed, 66 (57%) had PAF not removed, and 18 (16%) had minimal/no PAF noted. When compared to the PAF not removed group, the PAF removed group showed a significantly lower frequency of revision surgery between the two groups of patients (p = 0.0001). Conclusion: In the final outcome, not removing the PAF in primary AB indicated a strong association with an increase in revision surgery. The removal of PAF in primary AB showed a better overall outcome and patient satisfaction.

Wrinkling analysis of creased rectangular membrane

In this paper,the wrinkle-crease interaction behavior of a rectangular membrane under edge tension is simulated.The creased membrane is modeled by using a Modified Two-Parameter model.In this model,two crease parameters,i.e.the effective modulus of creased membrane and the residual stress from creasing,are computed by using MacNeal's method that was firstly applied directly in a flat membrane with the local crease.We have proposed a method to solve the wrinkling computing issue of the creased membrane by using a Direct Perturb-Force technique in our previous work.Based on our method,the effects of crease location on the wrinkle-crease interaction behavior can be evaluated accurately.These results will be of great benefit to the analysis and the control of the wrinkles in the membrane structures.

A New Catalyst in the Crease Recovery Finishing of Silk Fabrics with Epoxide

The paper here intends to discuss silk crease recovery finishing behavior with ED GE (ethylene diglycidal ether) in the presence of a new catalyst WSH. The results show that ED GE reacts with silk fibroin and forms cross linkages through ether bond. The formation of cross linking was examined by FITR spectroscopy, soluble time in acid solution and changes of amino acids. Handle of treated silk with catalyst WSH is better than that of silk treated with the traditional catalysts such as thiosulfates and thiocyanates. Finishing technique, physical properties of the finished silk fabrics and evaluation of cross linkages are discussed.

Wrinkle-crease interaction behavior simulation of a rectangular membrane under shearing

Wrinkling analysis of a rectangular membrane with a single crease under shearing is performed to understand the wrinkle-crease interaction behaviors. The crease is considered by introducing the residual stresses from creasing and the effective modulus into the baseline configuration with assumed circular cross-sectional crease geometry. The wrinkling analysis of the creased membrane is then performed by using the direct perturb-force （DP） simulation technique which is based on our modified displacement components （MDC） method. Results reveal that the crease may influence the stress transfer path in the membrane and further change the wrinkling direction. The crease appears to improve the bending stiffness of the membrane which has an effective resistance on the wrinkling evolution. The effects of the crease orientation on wrinkle-crease interaction are studied toward the end of this paper. The results show that the wrinkling amplitude, wavelength, and direction increase as the crease orientation increases, and the wrinkling number decreases with the increasing crease orientation. These results will be of great benefit to the analysis and the control of the wrinkles in the membrane structures.

Effects of digital acupressure on the blood flowin the capillary arterioles of the cerebral pia matercovering the posterior sigmoidal gyrus in domesticdog(Canis familiaris)were observed.The speed ofblood flow was found increased to 185% after con-tinuous digital acupressure for 20 minutes.The in-crease was most prominent 15 minutes after the acu-pressure was completed;the effect subsided in 30minutes.It was also found that in cases of low basalspeed of flow before digital acupressure,the increasein the speed of blood flow after acupressure was morepronounced.
