Problem identification and revitalization strategies for the recovery and reconstruction of traditional villages in the Ms 6.8 Luding Earthquake

Post-disaster reconstruction is a topic of global concern,and traditional villages have special heritage attributes and need to face more requirements and obstacles in post-disaster reconstruction.This paper summarizes four concepts based on the research on post-disaster reconstruction both domestically and internationally,as well as the recovery and reconstruction of cultural heritage.Through a field survey of traditional villages in the Ms 6.8 Luding earthquake-stricken area,it is found that there are problems such as insufficient awareness of heritage value,misalignment of scientific reconstruction technology,and insufficient protection of reconstruction elements during the reconstruction process.Traditional villages face the risk of declining or even loss of heritage value.In order to effectively protect traditional villages and inherit the carrier of regional culture,four targeted reconstruction response strategies are proposed,i.e.,to"establish special planning for traditional village preservation","emphasize recovery of the authenticity of village heritage","ensure elements for village heritage recovery"and"promote the activation and utilization of village heritage",based on the problems discovered during the survey and the four concepts summarized in the research on post-disaster reconstruction of traditional villages.The research results hope to provide useful reference for ancient cultural areas affected by earthquakes on how to protect cultural heritage during the post-disaster reconstruction process.

Analysis on Typical Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Open-cast Mining and Its Countermeasures

In order to deal with the special spatio-temporal environmental changes encountered in the process of open-cast mining,taking Huolinhe No.1 Open-cast Mine as the research object,this paper studied its typical problems in river reconstruction and cultural relics protection.The study focused on eight key core aspects,including the design optimization of the spatial layout of the mining area,the accurate estimation of the mineral resources reserves,the scientific theoretical demonstration of the mining scale,the fine analysis and calculation of the stripping ratio,the comprehensive consideration of the transport distance and efficiency,the accurate judgment of the best time for the implementation of the transformation,the analysis and evaluation of the slope stability,and the overall planning of the production system.The results show that the extracted problem-solving strategies and scheme system for special mining conditions can not only provide specific and practical guidance for Huolinhe No.1 Open-cast Mine,but also serve as a valuable reference and practical reference for other open-cast mine enterprises facing similar challenges.

Evaluation of the Spatial Quality of the Greenway on the Tonghui River in Beijing

This study organized the current status of tangible cultural heritage along the Tonghui River.The spaces along the Tonghui River were classified according to the farmland,suburban areas,urban residential areas,and urban center areas.Spatial analysis of the current situation was conducted through Baidu Street View images,with a focus on evaluating the spatial environment around the tangible cultural heritage.Negative factors affecting the reuse of cultural heritage were analyzed,such as poor appearance of buildings and low accessibility of transportation along the Tonghui River.

Contradiction or Coordination: between Urbanization and Cultural Heritage Protection

Urbanization is an inevitable trend of the development of human civilization. In the process of urbanization, human have learned lessons from protecting and inheriting cultural heritage or damaging and destroying it, and also accumulated precious experience, fi nally formed a reasonable path to harmoniously deal with the relationship between urbanization and cultural heritage protection. Besides, the accomplishment has been incorporated into the cause of the symbiosis of cultural diversity and the construction of harmonious cities. China's contemporary urbanization has been developing rapidly, thus its cultural heritage protection is facing severe challenges. However, the relationship between urbanization and cultural heritage protection is not completely confl icting. Coordinative development between the two is increasingly becoming a social consensus. The win-win result of China's urbanization and cultural heritage protection will make its own contribution to the progress of world's urbanization and cultural heritage protection.

On the Ethics of Cultural Heritage Protection

This paper tries to address the problem of a lack of ethics about intangible cultural heritage protection in current China from the perspective of the history of ideas. Though this is a not a new angle and many papers have given a more or less comprehensive discussion about this, this paper will endeavor to give a more systematic account. Seen from the perspective of ethics, the protection of cultural heritage in China is mainly challenged by imbalance or deviation from four aspects： Firstly, from the aspect of political justice; secondly, from the aspect of a lack of civic awareness; thirdly, from the aspect of excessive nationalism; fourthly, from the aspect of silent intellectuals.

The Cultural Heritage Protection in Iraq:History,Development,and Challenges

Through the factual analysis of the beginning,development,setbacks,and challenges of modern Iraqi archaeology and cultural relics protection,this paper carries out the research on different development stages under the current international and domestic political backgrounds,and analyzes the protection of Iraqi cultural heritage and the source of the predicament.There are many reasons for the tragedy of Iraqi cultural heritage,including military conflict,international economic situation,lack of state power,severe poverty,and religious conflict.

Protecting intangible cultural heritage of linguistic culture resources and developing strategies from the perspective of cultural ecology

From the perspective of cultural ecology, the thesis takes the linguistic culture resources as the research object, analyzes the diversified and endangered characteristics of linguistic cultural resources, and then comes up with three different strategies to protect intangible cultural heritage of linguistic culture domain and to develop cultural industry. On the Productive Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Handicrafts and Its Human Values——A Case Study of the“Wuhan Model”

Among the three methods of intangible cultural heritage （ICH） protection--salvage, integrity and productivity^--productive protection is the most complex and controversial one. Through a comprehensive analysis of legal relations, coordination mecha- nisms and modes of operation by the Wuhan Tourism Investment Group in the course of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage in handicrafts, this paper discusses the sustainable ＂Wuhan Model＂ and its human values.

A research on the path of rural culture protection and tourism utilization using memetics

Through the review and reflection on the protection of rural culture,this paper thinks that there are many factors affecting the protection of rural culture,which need to be analyzed systematically.This paper takes the cultural meme theory as the basic theory of rural cultural protection and inheritance,and constructs a set of factors affecting the protection of rural culture from two aspects of external environment and group psychology.Based on 335 questionnaires of rural tourism destination residents in Jiangsu Province,this paper deeply analyzes the influence of rural cultural protection and its driving factors,and uses structural equation model to calculate.The empirical results show that the group psychological factors as an intermediate variable,physical environmental factors and social environmental factors significantly affect the group psychological factors,thus affecting the rural cultural protection.At the same time,the impact of cultural and tourism utilization factors on rural cultural protection is also significant.From the perspective of the main body of rural cultural protection,this paper explores the psychology of the main body of rural cultural protection,promotes the upgrading of rural tourism quality and efficiency while protecting rural culture,deepens theoretical research and strengthens practical application,which has important enlightenment significance for realizing the healthy inheritance of rural culture.On the other hand,this paper can provide reasonable suggestions for the governance and development of rural traditional tourism.

Relationship between the development of ethnic tourism and the protection for regional culture:a case study of Tuwa people

The innocent Tuwa people live in Kanas Lake, a world famous national reserve in northern Xinjiang. With therapid development of tourism today, Tuwa people are finally involved in tourism industry. The development of tourismis a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it boosts the revival of Tuwa culture, provides a large number of employmentopportunities and cross-cultural exchanges, and improves material welfare for Tuwa people. On the other hand, somedisadvantages have also resulted from tourism development, such as the unauthentic exhibition of Tuwa culture, limitedtourists, Tuwa group interaction, and limited material improvement for the Tuwa, etc. This paper takes Tuwa people asa case, illustrates the types, characteristics and the conditions for the development of Tuwa culture, explores the advan-tages and disadvantages resulting from the development of folk-custom tourism industry and then puts forwardsrecommendations on the protection for local cultures as follows: (1) attach great importance to Tuwa culture in thetourism development of Kanas Lake Visitor Attraction; (2) construct the aboriginal village with the consciousness ofprotection; (3) remove the Tuwa village; (4) consummate the management mode and let Tuwa people really benefit fromtourism; (5) restrict the grazing in the scenic spots and protect natural grassland; (6) promote Tuwa people’s ability ofself-supervision and self-management; (7) exhibit Tuwa culture authentically.

Strategies of Inheriting Mosuo Culture Based on Folk Dwelling Culture of Mosuo People

Taking Xiaoluoshui Village by the Lugu Lake in Lijiang,Yunnan Province for example,this paper introduced traditional culture and residential culture of Mosuo people,as well as the confusion of Mosuo people in cultural inheritance and development brought by modern society,on this basis,proposed the suggestion for inheriting and promoting local residential culture,i.e.paving a road for Mosuo people pursuing their own culture by establishing communication spaces for Mosuo Culture.

Pest Management in Museum Collections and Storage Areas （New ApproachmOnline Sensors for Pest Detection）

Common denominator and one of the goals in the ＂storage＂ of many, even different, commodities （agricultural, etc.） is their protection against invasion by biological pests; protection of objects of cultural heritage deposited in museums, galleries, archives and other institutions of a similar type is one of the specific case. The present article is an overview of basic （potential） biological pests of some ＂storage＂ commodities （with emphasis on the protection of objects of cultural heritage） as well as methods used for their detection. In the final section, a modular system of the ongoing assessment of the environmental characteristics of depositaries and exhibitions （including ＂biological＂） is briefly presented; its advantage is the possibility of on-line monitoring of the evaluated parameters （temperature, humidity, lighting, etc.） including the detection of presence of crawling and airborne insects.

The Origin and Vision of National Cultural Park Management Policy in China

Research on the evolution of cultural policy is the key in the field of public policy study,and it is also an important means to solve the problems that have emerged in cultural heritage management.The National Cultural Park is an innovative cultural heritage protection system proposed by Chinese leaders within the context of national rejuvenation and building a culturally-strong country campaign.From the perspective of system evolution theory,this paper systematically sorts out the ideas behind international heritage management and the evolutionary process of the Cultural Relics Protection Unit system,in an effort to explore the origin,innovation and vision of the National Cultural Park System.A review of the international heritage documents revealed that the principle of heritage protection has developed from“authenticity”to“integrity”,and the focus of the protection object has also changed from“monism”to“diversity”,which provided a theoretical background for the burgeoning National Cultural Park.The Cultural Relics Protection Unit system has been promoted as the most crucial cultural heritage management system in China.Therefore,this study sheds light on the evolution and limitations of the system that lays a practical foundation for the National Cultural Park System.There have been three stages in the history of China’s National Cultural Relics Protection Unit,namely,the creation of the system(1956–1965),the survival crisis of the system(1966–1977),and the rebirth and development of the system(1978 to the present),in which the main driving concepts of China's cultural heritage management have been sequentially elucidated as simple protectionism,tolerant conservatism and comprehensive developmentalism,respectively.Since the establishment of China’s Cultural Relics Protection Unit system,tremendous progress has been made not only in the enlightenment of the public’s mindset and but also in the development of system and culture.However,the changes in the institutional environment gradually exposed its limitations regarding cultural relic management and value expression.The National Cultural Park System is the fruit created by the internal contradictions of the cultural heritage system itself and the evolution of heritage theory.Its biggest innovation lies in the two core connotations of“integrated protection”and“integrated development”.In the future,as the National Cultural Park management system matures,a Chinese cultural heritage management system will take shape in which the National Cultural Parks become dominant and various cultural resources are utilized.Finally,the National Cultural Park will become a symbol of Chinese culture and will be internalized into the common belief system of the Chinese nation.

Temporalities and the conservation of cultural relic protection units:legislative,economic and citizen times of the Bugaoli community in globalising Shanghai

Since the establishment of treaty ports in the mid-19th century,the urban development of many Chinese cities,and notably of Shanghai,has been heavily influenced by global economic flows and global urban and architectural practices.In Shanghai,extensive lilong neighbourhoods stand as remnants of the treaty port era.Many of these historic districts are in close proximity to rapidly transforming areas of the city,creating civic tension around demolition,conservation and the redevelopment of colonial heritage.Examining the listed Bugaoli community in Shanghai’s old French Concession,the heritage strategies applied under the particular Cultural Relics Protection System(CRPS),and the discourse of local residents interviewed in the context of this project,this paper reveals the paradoxes around urban heritage conservation and urban development by considering three different temporalities:legislative time,economic time and citizen time.The paper argues that actors involved in heritage practices should consider both space and time related issues in urban heritage conservation.Historic communities such as Bugaoli experience conflicts between conservation and the demands of everyday life.They underline and require a heritage strategy that acknowledges diverse temporalities and balances legal norms,economic interests and the public’s demands.

Nanocomposites composed of modified natural polymer and inorganic nanomaterial for safe,high-efficiency,multifunctional protection of paper-based relics

Paper-based relics as important carriers of human history and civilization have been facing severe damage problems,and their protection is a major project for cultural heritage restoration.So far,safe,high-efficiency,and multifunctional protection materials are still urgent to be developed.Herein,through screening a series of alkaline nano-oxides and cleverly combining the advantages of modified natural polymer(quaternized chitosan)and inorganic nanomaterials(Zn O),we successfully prepared their functional nanocomposites with multiple properties and pioneered their smart application for multifunctional protection of paper relics.By spraying loads,this kind of nanocomposites can effectively and safely inhibit the acid degradation of paper relics and long-term maintain a natural or weak basic state even under harsh accelerated aging conditions.Meanwhile,the coating of nanocomposites does not change the chromatic aberration but partially improves the hydrophobicity.Moreover,the mechanical properties of paper relics are reinforced up to more than one time for all-around tensile strength,folding endurance,and tearing strength.It is worth noting that the usage of nanocomposites can avoid the discoloration or fading of p H-sensitive pigments/dyes and prevent the blue/red inks from ink-spreading.By integrating the anti-microorganism effects of the two components,the nanocomposites have exhibited a broad antimicrobial capacity for both fungi(e.g.,Plectosphaerella cucumerina and Aspergillus unguis)and bacteria(e.g.,Staphylococcus aureus).The acquired knowledge not only represents an advanced step for designing functionalized inorganic/polymer nanocomposite but also sheds light on the multi-functional integrated protection of paperbased relics.
