With China’s economy speeding up, the continually evolving market of China became the second largest luxurygoods market in the world. Luxury brands invest a larger amount of money in advertising every year. This papertries to analyze the different cultural values reflected in Chinese and Western luxury advertisements based on thetheory of Hofstede’s value dimensions. We hope that a comparative cultural study on luxury advertisements willenable us to comprehend the main cultural values and enhance the tolerance and mutual understanding betweenChina and the Western countries.

Pearl S. Buck’s Values of “Cultural Convergence” and Their Application

The typical features of internal and external integration of cultures as revealed by the conception of“cultural convergence”provide a new perspective on the study of cultural exchanges and mutual learning.In the context of“a global community of shared future for humankind”,this paper adopts the novel idea of“cultural convergence”to probe the growth of Pearl S.Buck’s cultural values and the specific contents and representation of Pearl S.Buck’s conception of“cultural convergence”,highlighting the application of Pearl S.Buck’s values to cultural education,growth and success,family education,cultural exchanges,humanistic practices,etc.Feasible suggestions and countermeasures are put forward to better promote the cultural exchanges and mutual learning as well as the convergence of different cultures.

Approaches of Realizing Cultural Value of Red Revolutionary Site in Jiangxi Province:A Case Study of Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in Xiushui County

Red revolutionary site is a significant carrier for inheriting and spreading red culture,a witness of revolutionary history and stones,and also the best place to show connotations and value of red culture.Taking the regiment headquarter and the division headquarter of the First Division of the First Army in Xiushui County,Jiangxi Province for example,this paper explored cultural value of red site,analyzed the existing problems,tried to figure out scientific approaches of realizing cultural value of red site,so as to promote the sharing and inheritance of cultural value of red revolutionary site.

General Evaluation of the Potential of the Cultural-Historical Heritage Built in the Republic of Moldova

This article analyzes the efficiency of the administration, as well as the way of financing the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova through the prism of the legal, institutional and cultural policy framework. Following the research, it was found that in the last 30 years the efficient and transparent management of the material cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova has not been ensured, which endangers the national cultural heritage. If the current management and financing model does not change significantly in the near future, there is a risk that the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova will reach an unrecoverable condition.

Integrating Intangible Cultural Heritage into Ideological and Political Courses in Colleges and Universities

China's intangible cultural heritage as an important part and the soul of the traditional Chinese culture is the cultural treasure of China and even the world.As the concept of cultural protection is deeply rooted in the minds of people,the state attaches increasing importance to intangible cultural heritage.The unique forms of cultural expressions and the special places of these expressions are deeply rooted in the Chinese culture and they should also be an important content in China's efficient ideological and political education.This article mainly explores the significance of intangible cultural heritage in ideological and political teaching as well as the strategies to effectively integrate intangible cultural heritage into ideological and political teaching in order to achieve the educational purposes of condensing the consensus of traditional Chinese culture,enhancing the cultural consciousness among teachers and students in colleges and universities,and enhancing the patriotic enthusiasm and cultural confidence.

Hospital management priorities and key factors affecting overall perception of patient safety: a cross-sectional study

Objective:Evaluating a staff’s perception of safety culture is a critical factor in hospital management,and the knowledge of value and efficiency in hospitals is still inadequate.This study aimed to investigate the perceptions of safety culture among medical staffs and determine priorities for clear and better management.Methods:A cross-sectional survey of 595 medical staff members was conducted at 2 ter tiary hospitals in Western China using a hospital survey on patient safety culture(HSOPSC)and its value and efficiency in the hospital.Results:The dimensions with a disadvantaged positive response were nonpunitive response to error(44.6%)and staffing(42.0%).Five dimensions can explain 37.7%of the variation in the overall perception of patient safety,and handoffs and transitions are the most important dimensions(standardized coefficients 0.295).Conclusions:Hospital managers should pay more attention to nonpunitive management and staffing.Handoffs and transitions are the most important areas of potential improvement in patient safety in hospitals.

Identifying Factors of Obesity in Papua New Guinea: A Descriptive Study

Obesity and overweight are complex phenomena due to causes and consequences as these are the predisposing factors for developing lifestyle-related diseases. In the recent times, obesity and chronic diseases are being taken very seriously than ever before. Once upon a time, obesity was considered as a problem only in developed countries, now it is of a serious concern in low- and middle-income countries. In Papua New Guinea (PNG), a few studies have been conducted on obesity-related issues. However, there is not enough data on obesity to clearly understand about the leading contributing factors. Our research group designed this study to assess the influencing factors of obesity and as well as to identify the principal cause. It is a descriptive study, used structured and semi-structured interview and survey questionnaire. This study was conducted in the capital city of PNG, Port Moresby, and recruited 87 adults aged 30 - 50 years. According to interview and analysis findings, the contributing factors of obesity are less physical movement, unhealthy diet, lifestyle, cultural value system, low education and social system. Government strategies and initiatives are not strong enough to educate and motivate the community people. This study suggests developing an effective coordination among all stakeholders to ensure quality education and increase awareness to prevent obesity and its complications. The standard health policies and strategies are also recommended at the local, national and international level with strong commitment.

Research on English Pragmatics Competence: A Comparative Study of Compliment Behavior between Chinese EFL Students, Chinese ESL Students and English Native Speakers

The present study investigated the linguistic features of a special speech act,compliments produced by two groups of Chinese learners of English,one living in China's Mainland(EFL)and the other in Malaysia(ESL).This study compared and con-trasted the performance of the learner groups with that of native English speakers,aiming to determine how they employ compli-ment strategies in different situations and whether the exposure to target language(L2)community was helpful in pragmatic acquisi-tion.

Effect of urban transformation on the values of historic sites around mosques:Two cases in Manisa,Turkey

This study presents a framework for assessing the cultural asset values of historic sites around mosques.Case studies are selected from provinces of Manisa,Turkey,namely,Carsi in Salihli with its new urban development and Pazaryeri in Gordes that is abandoned and currently considered as an archaeological site.Literature review,archive research,historical research,comparative study,and site survey are carried out to evaluate the urban development of site neighborhoods with a retrospective perspective.An approach presenting the effects of urban transformations on the cultural asset values of the historic neighborhood centers is proposed.The cases reveal that the urban aesthetic is nearly all lost today,but the holiness of each site preserves its authenticity while the historic land use is sustained.Their preservation problems are lack of maintenance and abandonment due to disasters,illegal interve ntions,in appropriate development plans,and unsuitable restoration approaches.The principles proposed for managing these historic environments consider their cultural asset values in relation to urban history,development of coherent strategies for their presentation,and participation of all actors to their preservation and development.

Exploring the Mysteries of School Success in Shanghai

Purpose-The purpose of the paper is to discuss some of the mysteries around the much-touted recent success of school education in China and to explore some of the key conditions that may underpin the success.Design/Approach/Methods-It is a conceptual paper.A wide range of available data and literature has been consulted and analyzed to carefully marshal arguments about how to understand the mysteries and the conditions underpinning the success.Findings-The paper discusses four mysteries around education success in China.It argues for the development of a fuller and more contextualized perspective to view the success.The paper further suggests that neither of the four general conditions for success-values,reform,leadership or teaching approaches-taken alone,can explain pathways to success.Originality/Value-The paper provides an original explanatory description of the mysteries of education success and underlying conditions.This paper helps fill a gap in Western understanding of the“why”and“how”of school success in China.
