On the loss of cultural images in translation

In cultural translation the loss of cultural images often occurs. In most cases translators do so in order to make the target text understood more easily by the readers of the target language. But the result is worse quite often, because it usually affects correct transmission of the source text as a whole, what＇s even worse, it will affect the correct grasp of the artistic conception and figures of the source text. And in other cases it is impossible to make source cultural images reappear in the target text. This paper provides some sound examples and reviews of the above.

Exploring Image Culture Through Narrative： A Study on Jennifer Egan＇s Twitter Fiction Black Box

Notable for the completeness with which it surrenders formally and artistically to the textual dictates of Twitter, Jennifer Egan＇s 2012 short science fiction Black Box is one of the most triumphant and fully-fledged fictions written in the form of new media. This paper explores the Twitter narrative employed in Black Box, pointing out that the serialized tweeting format of the story released via computer, mobile phone, or other electronic equipments brings readers immediate reading experience, allowing readers to sense the same feelings as the protagonist does. Through the experimental serialization of＂Twitter＂ narrative, Egan expresses her concerns and worries about the security of the American security as well as the whole world in the post-＂9.11＂ period and at the same time she embraces the virtues and pleasures of traditional storytelling delivered through a wholly new digital format. This paper concludes that Black Box is perhaps one of the boldest experiments of narrative form and is direct exploration into the contemporary image culture.

The Cultural and Artistic Image of Modern China in the Perspective of Western Peregrinators

Culture and art had always been the main field of western cognition of China.Since the middle and late 18th century,as Chinese civilization was on a downward trajectory,the image of oriental civilization with a long history,prosperity,inclusiveness and harmony gradually disappeared,and“ancient”and“decline”became the main keywords to describe Chinese culture and art by western peregrinators.

Interpretations on the Rainbow’s Cultural Image From Literary Anthropology

A cultural image is a kind of cultural symbol and cognitive schema,which can make the national wisdom and historical memory get together.From the view of literary anthropology,the article applies quadruple-evidence approaches to interpret cultural images of rainbow multi-dimensionally and systematically in the field of the great tradition.Meanwhile,in order to break through the concealment and misleadingness of ancient documentary records,we need rely on the multi-ethnic living ethnography from generation to generation and jade Huang(玉璜,semi-annular jade pendant)narrative in the form of hierophany.So we can find that the rainbow represents luckiness,a bumper harvest,and sexual intercourse.Moreover,we conclude that faith in rainbow culture in ancient times is the headstream of faith in dragon culture that rooted in the heart of all Chinese.Hence,quadruple-evidence approaches play more significant roles in the reconstruction and rebuilding of Chinese great tradition’s view of culture than before.

A Study of Strategies in Translation of Chinese Classical Artistic Essays

This paper takes the Chinese Classical Artistic Essays(hereafter referred to as CCAEs) as its object. As many as ten archetypaessays from various dynasties are collected as samples, so are their corresponding translated versions on which the author will conduct acomparative study. In doing so, this thesis is aimed at elucidating some practical strategies of translating CCAEs. Due to the constraint olength, the paper discusses the translation strategies on the part of translation of cultural images and artistic conceptions.
