In this paper,a generalized nth-order perturbation method based on the isogeometric boundary element method is proposed for the uncertainty analysis of broadband structural acoustic scattering problems. The Burton-Miller method is employed to solve the problem of non-unique solutions that may be encountered in the external acoustic field, and the nth-order discretization formulation of the boundary integral equation is derived. In addition, the computation of loop subdivision surfaces and the subdivision rules are introduced. In order to confirm the effectiveness of the algorithm, the computed results are contrasted and analyzed with the results under Monte Carlo simulations(MCs)through several numerical examples. 展开更多

The equipment used in various fields contains an increasing number of parts with curved surfaces of increasing size.Five-axis computer numerical control(CNC)milling is the main parts machining method, while dynamics analysis has always been a research hotspot. The cutting conditions determined by the cutter axis, tool path, and workpiece geometry are complex and changeable, which has made dynamics research a major challenge. For this reason, this paper introduces the innovative idea of applying dimension reduction and mapping to the five-axis machining of curved surfaces, and proposes an efficient dynamics analysis model. To simplify the research object, the cutter position points along the tool path were discretized into inclined plane five-axis machining. The cutter dip angle and feed deflection angle were used to define the spatial position relationship in five-axis machining. These were then taken as the new base variables to construct an abstract two-dimensional space and establish the mapping relationship between the cutter position point and space point sets to further simplify the dimensions of the research object.Based on the in-cut cutting edge solved by the space limitation method, the dynamics of the inclined plane five-axis machining unit were studied, and the results were uniformly stored in the abstract space to produce a database. Finally, the prediction of the milling force and vibration state along the tool path became a data extraction process that significantly improved efficiency. Two experiments were also conducted which proved the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed dynamics analysis model. This study has great potential for the online synchronization of intelligent machining of large surfaces. 展开更多

The seismic behavior of horizontally curved bridges, particularly with unequal height piers,is more complicated than that of straight bridges due to their geometric properties. In this study, the seismic responses of several horizontally curved single-column-bent viaducts with various degrees of curvature and different pier heights have been investigated, employing three different analysis approaches:namely, modal pushover analysis, uniform load method, and nonlinear time history analysis.Considering the investigated bridge configurations and utilizing the most common regularity indices, the results indicate that viaducts with 45-degree and 90-degree deck subtended angles can be categorized as regular and moderately irregular, respectively, while the bridges with 180-degree deck subtended angle are found to be highly irregular.Furthermore, the viaducts whose pier heights are asymmetric may be considered as irregular for almost all ranges of the deck subtended angles. The effects of higher transverse and longitudinal modes are discussed and the minimum analysis requirements are identified to assess the seismic response of such bridge configurations for design purposes.Although the Regularity Indices used here are useful tools to distinguish between regular and irregular bridges, further studies are needed to improve their reliability. 展开更多

For laser cladding a large temperature gradient easily weakened the surface quality by generating cracks and irregular coating surfaces, which in turn affected the bearing capacity and corrosion resistance of coatings in the rapid heating and cooling process. The response surface methodology(RSM)was used to predict coating cracks by changing the powder ratio, energy density, and preheating temperature, which obtained the relevant mathematical model. After that, the sensitivity of the crack length to process parameters was analyzed based on the sensitivity analysis method. The effect of Ni60/WC composite powder process parameters on the surface quality was revealed in laser cladding. The crack length first decreased and then increased, and the Smooth decreased with the increased powder ratio. The crack length and Smooth increased with the increased energy density. The crack length decreased and Smooth increased with the increased preheating temperature.Sensitivity analysis showed that the crack length and Smooth were the most sensitive to the powder ratio. Therefore, the process parameters were reasonably selected to control the surface quality. The mathematical model and sensitivity analysis method in the work could improve the surface quality, which provided a theoretical basis for the prediction and control of laser cladding cracks. 展开更多

Owing to extensive construction of dams, the impact of backwater on flow may lead to navigation or flood control issues in curved channels. To date, the impact of backwater on the water surface profile in curved channels remains unknown and requires investigation. In this study, experiments were conducted in a glass-walled recirculating flume with a length of 19.4 m, a width of 0.6 m, and a depth of 0.8 m, and the impact of backwater on the water surface profile in a 90° channel bend was investigated. The experimental results showed that the backwater degree had a significant impact on the transverse and longitudinal flow depth distributions in the bend. The transverse slope of the flow (Jr) increased linearly with an increase in the Froude number of the approach flow upstream of the bend. Jr increased with the longitudinal location parameter ξ when −0.2 < ξ < 0.5, and decreased with ξ when 0.5 < ξ < 1.2. Furthermore, the results showed that Jr asymptotically decreased to zero with an increase in the degree of backwater. An equation was formulated to estimate the transverse slope of the flow in a 90° bend in backwater zones. 展开更多

We present the results of an investigation into the behavior of the unsteady flow of a Casson Micropolar nanofluid over a shrinking/stretching curved surface, together with a heat transfer analysis of the same problem. The body force acting perpendicular to the surface wall is in charge of regulating the fluid flow rate.Curvilinear coordinates are used to account for the considered curved geometry and a set of balance equations for mass, momentum, energy and concentration is obtained accordingly. These are turned into ordinary differential equations using a similarity transformation. We show that these equations have dual solutions for a number of different combinations of various parameters. The stability of such solutions is investigated by applying perturbations on the steady states. It is found that high values of the Micropolar and Casson parameters cause the flow to move more slowly. However, when compared to a shrunken surface,a stretched surface produces a greater Micro-rotation flux. 展开更多

The covariant derivative is a generalization of differentiating vectors. The Euclidean derivative is a special case of the covariant derivative in Euclidean space. The covariant derivative gathers broad attention, particularly when computing vector derivatives on curved surfaces and volumes in various applications.Covariant derivatives have been computed using the metric tensor from the analytically known curved axes. However, deriving the global axis for the domain has been mathematically and computationally challenging for an arbitrary two-dimensional(2D)surface.Consequently,computing the covariant derivative has been difficult or even impossible.A novel high-order numerical scheme is proposed for computing the covariant derivative on any 2D curved surface.A set of orthonormal vectors, known as moving frames, expand vectors to compute accurately covariant derivatives on 2D curved surfaces. The proposed scheme does not require the construction of curved axes for the metric tensor or the Christoffel symbols. The connectivity given by the Christoffel symbols is equivalently provided by the attitude matrix of orthonormal moving frames.Consequently, the proposed scheme can be extended to the general 2D curved surface. As an application, the Helmholtz‐Hodge decomposition is considered for a realistic atrium and a bunny. 展开更多

To guarantee the safety of railway operations, the swift detection of rail surface defects becomes imperative.Traditional methods of manual inspection and conventional nondestructive testing prove inefficient, especially when scaling to extensive railway networks. Moreover, the unpredictable and intricate nature of defect edge shapes further complicates detection efforts.Addressing these challenges, this paper introduces an enhanced Unified Perceptual Parsing for Scene Understanding Network(UPerNet)tailored for rail surface defect detection.Notably, the Swin Transformer Tiny version(Swin-T)network,underpinned by the Transformer architecture,is employed for adept feature extraction. This approach capitalizes on the global information present in the image and sidesteps the issue of inductive preference. The model’s efficiency is further amplified by the windowbased self-attention,which minimizes the model’s parameter count. We implement the cross-GPU synchronized batch normalization(SyncBN)for gradient optimization and integrate the Lovász-hinge loss function to leverage pixel dependency relationships.Experimental evaluations underscore the efficacy of our improved UPerNet,with results demonstrating Pixel Accuracy(PA)scores of 91.39%and 93.35%,Intersection over Union(IoU)values of 83.69%and 87.58%,Dice Coefficients of 91.12%and 93.38%,and Precision metrics of 90.85%and 93.41%across two distinct datasets. An increment in detection accuracy was discernible. For further practical applicability,we deploy semantic segmentation of rail surface defects, leveraging connected component processing techniques to distinguish varied defects within the same frame.By computing the actual defect length and area, our deep learning methodology presents results that offer intuitive insights for railway maintenance professionals. 展开更多

The Zn and Fe modified /ZrO2-Al2O3 catalyst (Zn-Fe-SZA) was prepared and mechanisms of deactivation and methods for regeneration of as-prepared catalyst were explored with n-pentane isomerization as a probe reaction. The results indicated that the isopentane yield of the fresh Zn-Fe-SZA-F catalyst was about 57% at the beginning of the run, and declined gradually to 50% within 1500 min, then fell rapidly from 50% to 40% between 1500 and 2500 minutes. The deactivation of Zn-Fe-SZA catalyst may be caused by carbon formation on surface of the catalyst, sulfate group attenuation owing to reduction by hydrogen, removal of sulfur species and the loss of strong acid sites. It was found that the initial catalytic activity over Zn-Fe-SZA-T catalyst was 48%, which recovered by 84.3% as compared to that of fresh catalyst (57%). However, it showed a sharp decrease in isopentane yield from 48% to 29% within 1500 minutes, showing poor stability. This is associated to the loss of acidity caused by removal of sulfur species cannot be basically restored by thermal treatment. Resulfating the calcined catalyst could improve the acidity of catalyst significantly, especially strong acid sites, as compared with the calcined sample. The improved stability of the resulfated catalyst can be explained by: 1) eliminaton of carbon deposition to some extent by calcination process, 2) formation of improved acidic nature by re-sulfation, favoring isomerization on acidic sites, 3) restructuring of the acid and metal sites via the calcination-re-sulfation procedure. 展开更多

We derive an effective Hamiltonian for a spin-1/2 particle confined within a curved thin layer with non-uniform thickness using the confining potential approach. Our analysis reveals the presence of a pseudo-magnetic field and effective spin–orbit interaction(SOI)arising from the curvature,as well as an effective scalar potential resulting from variations in thickness.Importantly,we demonstrate that the physical effect of additional SOI from thickness fluctuations vanishes in low-dimensional systems, thus guaranteeing the robustness of spin interference measurements to thickness imperfection.Furthermore,we establish the applicability of the effective Hamiltonian in both symmetric and asymmetric confinement scenarios, which is crucial for its utilization in one-side etching systems. 展开更多

It is a challenge to polish the interior surface of an additively manufactured component with complex structures and groove sizes less than 1 mm.Traditional polishing methods are disabled to polish the component, meanwhile keeping the structure intact. To overcome this challenge,small-grooved components made of aluminum alloy with sizes less than 1 mm were fabricated by a custom-made printer.A novel approach to multi-phase jet(MPJ)polishing is proposed, utilizing a self-developed polisher that incorporates solid, liquid, and gas phases. In contrast, abrasive air jet(AAJ)polishing is recommended, employing a customized polisher that combines solid and gas phases. After jet polishing, surface roughness(Sa)on the interior surface of grooves decreases from pristine 8.596μm to 0.701μm and 0.336μm via AAJ polishing and MPJ polishing, respectively, and Sa reduces 92%and 96%,correspondingly.Furthermore,a formula defining the relationship between linear energy density and unit defect volume has been developed. The optimized parameters in additive manufacturing are that linear energy density varies from 0.135 J mm^(-1)to 0.22 J mm^(-1).The unit area defect volume achieved via the optimized parameters decreases to 1/12 of that achieved via non-optimized ones.Computational fluid dynamics simulation results reveal that material is removed by shear stress, and the alumina abrasives experience multiple collisions with the defects on the heat pipe groove, resulting in uniform material removal. This is in good agreement with the experimental results. The novel proposed setups, approach, and findings provide new insights into manufacturing complex-structured components, polishing the small-grooved structure, and keeping it unbroken. 展开更多

Numerical weather prediction(NWP)models have always presented large forecasting errors of surface wind speeds over regions with complex terrain. In this study, surface wind forecasts from an operational NWP model, the SMS-WARR(Shanghai Meteorological Service-WRF ADAS Rapid Refresh System),are analyzed to quantitatively reveal the relationships between the forecasted surface wind speed errors and terrain features, with the intent of providing clues to better apply the NWP model to complex terrain regions. The terrain features are described by three parameters:the standard deviation of the model grid-scale orography, terrain height error of the model, and slope angle. The results show that the forecast bias has a unimodal distribution with a change in the standard deviation of orography. The minimum ME(the mean value of bias)is 1.2 m s^(-1) when the standard deviation is between 60 and 70 m.A positive correlation exists between bias and terrain height error, with the ME increasing by 10%−30%for every 200 m increase in terrain height error. The ME decreases by 65.6%when slope angle increases from(0.5°−1.5°)to larger than 3.5°for uphill winds but increases by 35.4%when the absolute value of slope angle increases from(0.5°−1.5°)to(2.5°−3.5°)for downhill winds.Several sensitivity experiments are carried out with a model output statistical(MOS)calibration model for surface wind speeds and ME(RMSE)has been reduced by 90%(30%)by introducing terrain parameters, demonstrating the value of this study. 展开更多

We investigated the parametric optimization on incremental sheet forming of stainless steel using Grey Relational Analysis(GRA) coupled with Principal Component Analysis(PCA). AISI 316L stainless steel sheets were used to develop double wall angle pyramid with aid of tungsten carbide tool. GRA coupled with PCA was used to plan the experiment conditions. Control factors such as Tool Diameter(TD), Step Depth(SD), Bottom Wall Angle(BWA), Feed Rate(FR) and Spindle Speed(SS) on Top Wall Angle(TWA) and Top Wall Angle Surface Roughness(TWASR) have been studied. Wall angle increases with increasing tool diameter due to large contact area between tool and workpiece. As the step depth, feed rate and spindle speed increase,TWASR decreases with increasing tool diameter. As the step depth increasing, the hydrostatic stress is raised causing severe cracks in the deformed surface. Hence it was concluded that the proposed hybrid method was suitable for optimizing the factors and response. 展开更多

Ammonium dinitramide(ADN),which has the advantages of high energy density,no halogen and low characteristic signal,is not only considered as a new high-energy oxidizer that is expected to replace the traditional oxidizer ammonium perchlorate(AP)in solid propellants, but also a good performance explosive in itself. However, due to the strong hygroscopicity of ADN,its application in solid propellants and explosives is greatly limited.Solving the hygroscopicity of ADN is the key to realize the wide application of ADN.In this paper,we systematically review the research progress of anti-hygroscopic strategies of ADN coating. The surface coating methods are focusing on solvent volatilization,solvent-non-solvent,melt crystallization and atomic layer deposition technology. The characteristics of the different methods are compared and analyzed, and the basis for the classification and selection of the coating materials are introduced in detail. In addition, the feasibility of material for surface coating of ADN is evaluated by several compatibility analysis methods. It is highly expected that the liquid phase method(solvent volatilization method,solvent-non-solvent method)would be the promising method for future ADN coating because of its effective, safety and facile operation.Furthermore, polymer materials, are the preferred coating materials due to their high viscosity, easy adhesion, good anti-hygroscopic effect, and heat resistance, which make ADN weak hygroscopicity, less sensitive, easier to preserve and good compatibility. 展开更多

Surface wave inversion is a key step in the application of surface waves to soil velocity profiling.Currently,a common practice for the process of inversion is that the number of soil layers is assumed to be known before using heuristic search algorithms to compute the shear wave velocity profile or the number of soil layers is considered as an optimization variable. However,an improper selection of the number of layers may lead to an incorrect shear wave velocity profile. In this study,a deep learning and genetic algorithm hybrid learning procedure is proposed to perform the surface wave inversion without the need to assume the number of soil layers.First,a deep neural network is adapted to learn from a large number of synthetic dispersion curves for inferring the layer number. Then, the shear-wave velocity profile is determined by a genetic algorithm with the known layer number.By applying this procedure to both simulated and real-world cases, the results indicate that the proposed method is reliable and efficient for surface wave inversion. 展开更多

In order to investigate and predict the material properties of curved surface AISI 1045 steel component during spot continual induction hardening(SCIH),a 3D model for curved surface workpieces which coupled electromagnetic, temperature and phase transformation fields was built by finite element software ANSYS.A small size inductor and magnetizer were used in this model, which can move along the top surface of workpiece flexibly. The effect of inductor moving velocity and workpiece radius on temperature field was analyzed and the heating delay phenomenon was found through comparing the simulated results. The temperature field results indicate that the heating delay phenomenon is more obvious under high inductor moving velocity condition. This trend becomes more obvious if the workpiece radius becomes larger. The predictions of microstructure and micro-hardness distribution were also carried out via this model. The predicted results show that the inductor moving velocity is the dominated factor for the distribution of 100% martensite region and phase transformation region. The influencing factor of workpiece radius on 100% martensite region and phase transformation region distribution is obvious under relatively high inductor moving velocity but inconspicuous under relatively low inductor moving velocity. 展开更多

Rapid urbanization creates complexity, results in dynamic changes in land and environment, and influences the land surface temperature(LST)in fast-developing cities. In this study,we examined the impact of land use/land cover(LULC)changes on LST and determined the intensity of urban heat island(UHI)in New Town Kolkata(a smart city),eastern India, from 1991 to 2021 at 10-a intervals using various series of Landsat multi-spectral and thermal bands. This study used the maximum likelihood algorithm for image classification and other methods like the correlation analysis and hotspot analysis(Getis–Ord Gi^(*) method)to examine the impact of LULC changes on urban thermal environment. This study noticed that the area percentage of built-up land increased rapidly from 21.91%to 45.63%during 1991–2021,with a maximum positive change in built-up land and a maximum negative change in sparse vegetation. The mean temperature significantly increased during the study period(1991–2021),from 16.31℃to 22.48℃in winter,29.18℃to 34.61℃in summer, and 19.18℃to 27.11℃in autumn. The result showed that impervious surfaces contribute to higher LST,whereas vegetation helps decrease it.Poor ecological status has been found in built-up land, and excellent ecological status has been found in vegetation and water body. The hot spot and cold spot areas shifted their locations every decade due to random LULC changes.Even after New Town Kolkata became a smart city, high LST has been observed.Overall, this study indicated that urbanization and changes in LULC patterns can influence the urban thermal environment, and appropriate planning is needed to reduce LST.This study can help policy-makers create sustainable smart cities. 展开更多

In recent decades, Urban Heat Island Effects have become more pronounced and more widely examined. Despite great technological advances, our current societies still experience great spatial disparity in urban forest access. Urban Heat Island Effects are measurable phenomenon that are being experienced by the world’s most urbanized areas, including increased summer high temperatures and lower evapotranspiration from having impervious surfaces instead of vegetation and trees. Tree canopy cover is our natural mitigation tool that absorbs sunlight for photosynthesis, protects humans from incoming radiation, and releases cooling moisture into the air. Unfortunately, urban areas typically have low levels of vegetation. Vulnerable urban communities are lower-income areas of inner cities with less access to heat protection like air conditioners. This study uses mean evapotranspiration levels to assess the variability of urban heat island effects across the state of Tennessee. Results show that increased developed land surface cover in Tennessee creates measurable changes in atmospheric evapotranspiration. As a result, the mean evapotranspiration levels in areas with less tree vegetation are significantly lower than the surrounding forested areas. Central areas of urban cities in Tennessee had lower mean evapotranspiration recordings than surrounding areas with less development. This work demonstrates the need for increased tree canopy coverage. 展开更多

The group-theorytic approach is applied for solving the problem of the unsteady MHD mixed convective flow past on a moving curved surface. The application of two-parameter groups reduces the number of independent variables by two, and consequently the system of governing partial differential equations with boundary conditions reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations with appropriate boundary conditions. The obtained ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using the shooting method. The effects of varying parameters governing the problem are studied.
