Intramolecular Charge Transfer Dual Fluorescence pH Sensing using p-Dibutylaminobenzoic Acid-β-cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex

The intramolecular charge transfer dual fluorescence of p-dibutylaminobenzoic acid-b-cyclodextrin inclusion complex showed a substantially higher sensitivity toward aqueous solution pH variation when compared with that of p-dibutylaminobenzoic acid alone, which established a new principle for direct CT fluorescence sensing in aqueous solution by using the CT fluorophore-cyclodextrin inclusion complex.

Studies on Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex by Fluorescence Anisotropy

An equation for determining the equilibrium association constant (KA) of cyclodextrin inclusion complex with fluorescence anisotropy is derived and used to determine KA of pyrene-B-cyclodextrin inclusion complex. The existing forms of cyclodextrin inclusion complex in solution, the interaction type of host with guest, and the possibility of application of B-cyclodextrin in the analysis of metal ions using naphthalene derivative as a ligand are discussed based on the equation derived along with the curve of fluorescence anisotropy versus cyclodextrin concentration of guest/cyclodextrin system.

Comparative Study on the Inclusion Complexation of Rutin with Cyclodextrin Supramolecules

The interaction of beta-cyclodextrin(beta-CD), hydroxypropyl-beta-CD and gamma-CD with the drug rutin has been investigated by using fluorimetry. The stoichiometry of the complexes and their formation constants have been estimated. The thermodynamic parameters for the formation of complexes were obtained. The complexing ability of HP-beta-CD is remarkably stronger than beta-CD and gamma-CD.

Structure and Mechanical Properties of Waterborne Polyurethane-based Composites Filled with Self-assembled Supramolecular Nanoplatelets

New composites of waterborne polyurethane （WPU） as a matrix were prepared by incorporating rigid supramolecular nanoplatelets （SNs） as filler, which were self-assembled by the selective inclusion of β-cyclodextrin （β-CD） onto poly（propylene oxide） （PPO） segment in the poly（ethylene oxide）- block-PPO-block-poly（ethylene oxide） （PEO-b-PPO-b-PEO）. It is worth noting that, when the loading level of SN is lower than 3wt%, the SNs with moderate PEO length result in the simultaneous increase in strength, elongation and Young＇s modulus in contrast with neat WPU. If there is no stretching free PEO chain, both strength and elongation decrease in spite of an increase in Young＇s modulus. However, too long PEO chains result in the decrease of mechanical performances while the relatively higher loading-level of SNs also inhibits the enhancement of strength and elongation.

Electrochemical determination of electroinactive guests of β-cyclodextrin at a self-assembled monolayer interface

A novel determination method of electroinactive molecules by means of electrochemical technique is presented. A new self-assembled monolayer containing cyclodextrin (CD) is prepared with mono(6-o-p-tolylsulfonyl)-β-cyclodextrin. Although this derivatization process leads to a β-CD coverage of 10% of a full monolayer, this layer shows an effective host-guest response to ferrocene. The interfacial ferrocene complexation gives a response similar to that expected for a Langmuir adsorption isotherm yielding a stability constant of 4.2 ×104 mol-1· L and a maximum ferrocene coverage of 8.6×10-12 mol/cm2. The redox peak currents of the surface-confined ferrocene decrease upon addition of competing β-CD guest species to the solution, such as m-toluic acid (mTA) and sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS). This principle has been used for the determination of the electroinactive molecules, mTA and SDS in the concentration ranges of 0.8-2.7 μmol/L and 5-100 nmol/L, respectively.
