In this study, a two-stage method is presented for identifying multiple damage scenarios. In the first stage, the damage locating vector (DLV) method using normalized cumulative energy (nce) is employed for damage localization in structures. In the second stage, the differential evolution algorithm (DE) is used for damage severity of the structures. In addition, in the second stage, a modification of an available objective function is made for handing the issue of symmetric structures. To verify the effectiveness of the present technique, numerical examples of a 72-bar space truss and a one-span steel portal frame are considered. In addition, the effect of noise on the performance of the identification results is also investigated. The numerical results show that the proposed combination gives good assessment of damage location and extent for multiple structural damage cases. 展开更多

In recent years,Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has emerged as a new research area in civil engineering. Most existing health monitoring methodologies require direct measurement of input excitation for implementation. However,in many cases, there is no easy way to measure these inputs-or alternatively to externally excite the structure. Therefore,SHM methods based on ambient vibration have become important in civil engineering. In this paper,an approach is proposed based on the Damage Location Vector (DLV) method to handle the ambient vibration case. Here, this flexibility-matrix-based damage localization method is combined with a modal expansion technique to eliminate the need to measure the input excitation. As a by-product of this approach,in addition to determining the location of the damage,an estimate of the damage extent also can be determined. Finally,a numerical example analyzing a truss structure with limited sensors and noisy measurement is provided to verify the efficacy of the proposed approach. 展开更多

The frequency change square ratio is used as a parameter for the damage. It is theoretically verified that the parameter is a function of the damage location. Experimental results of the corrosion in reinforced concrete structures show that the predicted damage location is in agreement with the real damage location. The modal parameters are used to detect the damages in structural concrete elements, and so they are useful for structural appraisal. 展开更多

An experimental program was undertaken to test the feasibility to detect the occurrence of structural damage using a modified mode shape difference technique. The vibration response of a steel beam fixed at one end and hinged at the other was obtained for the intact and damage conditions. Modal analysis was performed to extract the frequencies and mode shapes. The method shows a good potential in detection of occurrence and location of damage. 展开更多

The electrostatic discharge(ESD)protection circuit widely exists in the input and output ports of CMOS digital circuits, and fast rising time electromagnetic pulse(FREMP)coupled into the device not only interacts with the CMOS circuit, but also acts on the protection circuit. This paper establishes a model of on-chip CMOS electrostatic discharge protection circuit and selects square pulse as the FREMP signals.Based on multiple physical parameter models,it depicts the distribution of the lattice temperature, current density, and electric field intensity inside the device. At the same time, this paper explores the changes of the internal devices in the circuit under the injection of fast rising time electromagnetic pulse and describes the relationship between the damage amplitude threshold and the pulse width. The results show that the ESD protection circuit has potential damage risk, and the injection of FREMP leads to irreversible heat loss inside the circuit. In addition, pulse signals with different attributes will change the damage threshold of the circuit. These results provide an important reference for further evaluation of the influence of electromagnetic environment on the chip, which is helpful to carry out the reliability enhancement research of ESD protection circuit. 展开更多

A promising tool to detect micro-cracks in plate-like structures is used for generating higher harmonic Lamb waves. In this paper,a method combining nonlinear S0 mode Lamb waves with time reversal to locate micro-cracks is presented and verified by numerical simulations. Two different models, the contact acoustic nonlinearity(CAN)model and the Preisach-Mayergoyz(PM)model,are used to simulate a localized damage in a thin plate.Pulse inversion method is employed to extract the second and fourth harmonics from the received signal.Time reversal is performed to compensate the dispersion of S0 mode Lamb waves.Consequently, the higher harmonics generated from the damaged area can be refocused on their source.By investigating the spatial distribution of harmonic wave packets, the location of micro-cracks will be revealed. The numerical simulations indicate that this method gives accurate locations of the damaged area in a plate.Furthermore, the PM model is proved to be a suitable model to simulate the micro-cracks in plates for generation of higher harmonics. 展开更多

AET (acoustic emission tomography) is a new visualization location method for inspecting and locating the intemal damages in the structures. In this paper, the AET is applied to detect and visualize damage source locations in the Q235B steel structure to validate its effectiveness. Firstly, the ABAQUS/Explicit simulation model.of the steel structure with one damaged circle in its center is built. And then, the simulated AE signals are obtained to establish the AE tomography. The results show that the damaged circle in the created model can be visualized clearly with the AET in its original location. Finally, the damage source location based on AET is compared with the traditional TOA (time of arrival) location method, and the better location accuracy is obtained. And this fact that further illustrates the AET has a great potential in the application of structure damage detection. 展开更多

The aim of this study is to propose a new detection method for determining the damage locations in pile foundations based on deep learning using acoustic emission data.First, the damage location is simulated using a back propagation neural network deep learning model with an acoustic emission data set acquired from pile hit experiments. In particular, the damage location is identified using two parameters:the pile location(PL)and the distance from the pile cap(DS).This study investigates the influences of various acoustic emission parameters, numbers of sensors, sensor installation locations, and the time difference on the prediction accuracy of PL and DS.In addition, correlations between the damage location and acoustic emission parameters are investigated.Second, the damage step condition is determined using a classification model with an acoustic emission data set acquired from uniaxial compressive strength experiments. Finally,a new damage detection and evaluation method for pile foundations is proposed. This new method is capable of continuously detecting and evaluating the damage of pile foundations in service. 展开更多
