In order to enhance its absorption of sunlight,dark color zinc oxides have been prepared by traditional hydrothermal method directly using a zinc foil as both source and substrate. We found that we could tune the optical properties of ZnO samples by changing the temperature. In particular, increasing temperature could significantly reduce the reflectivity of solar energy in the visible range. We speculate that the phenomenon is relevant to the sharp cone morphology of the ZnO nanorods grown on the surface of Zn foils, which furthermore enhance refraction and reflection of light in the nanorods. The capacity to improve the light absorption of ZnO may have a bright application in raising the efficiency of solar cells.展开更多
This study investigated the pH/temperature decline of beef carcasses in a typical Chinese abattoir and color development as pH declined during rigor onset. A natural cubic spline model was used to model the pH/tempera...This study investigated the pH/temperature decline of beef carcasses in a typical Chinese abattoir and color development as pH declined during rigor onset. A natural cubic spline model was used to model the pH/temperature decline for those carcasses which passed through pH 6.0. Six of the 97 carcasses that exhibited a high (-〉6.10) ultimate pH (pHu) (darkcutting) in the M. Iongissimus lumborum (LL) were sampled, along with the same numbers of normal pHu and intermediate pHu carcasses (5.40-5.79; 5.80-6.10, respectively), to examine color development within 24 h postmortem. It was shown that 66.7% of the modeled carcasses were outside the ideal pH/temperature window with a temperature@pH6.0 lower than ideal, suggesting the need for acceleration of the pH decline. The stable and low a^*, b^* and chroma values of high pHu beef within the first 12 h indicated dark-cutting beef might be detected earlier than expected.展开更多

Dubliners is known to be characterized with permeating darkness and a lack of light,which serves as a sign for religious,political,cultural and spiritual darkness that shrouds the city as well as psychological predica...Dubliners is known to be characterized with permeating darkness and a lack of light,which serves as a sign for religious,political,cultural and spiritual darkness that shrouds the city as well as psychological predicaments that trap,frustrate and paralyze Dublin citizens.Yet despite the dimmed,somber natural environment where plots unfold,the texts are sprinkled with vivid use of colors,whose symbolic significance remains understudied.The color red is used in Dubliners to symbolize life and hope.Though in general characters have ghoulishly colored skin,their faces are always smeared with a shade of red,just like the invading darkness in Dubliners is always dotted with a few spots of red light,which conveys the message that Dublin is not solely characterized by a state of paralysis or death-in-life,but also by a ray of hope and national revival.Therefore,overemphasis on the motif of darkness and paralysis does not do justice to Joyce’s underlying expectation for his people to break free from the shackles of religious and political oppression and finally achieve national independence.展开更多
