Vibration-based damage assessment is a powerful tool in this regard, as it relies on changes in a structure’s dynamic characteristics as it degrades. By measuring the vibration response of a bridge due to passing vehicles, this approach can identify potential structural damage. This dissertation introduces a novel technique grounded in Vehicle-Bridge Interaction (VBI) to evaluate bridge health. It aims to detect damage by analyzing the response of passing vehicles, taking into account VBI. The theoretical foundation of this method begins with representing the bridge’s superstructure using a Finite Element Model and employing a half-car dynamic model to simulate the vehicle with suspension. Two sets of motion equations, one for the bridge and one for the vehicle are generated using the Finite Element Method, mode superposition, and D’Alembert’s principle. The combined dynamics are solved using the Newmark-beta method, accounting for road surface roughness. A new approach for damage identification based on the response of passing vehicles is proposed. The response is theoretically composed of vehicle frequency, bridge natural frequency, and a pseudo-frequency component related to vehicle speed. The Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) method is applied to decompose the signal into its constituent parts, and damage detection relies on the Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) corresponding to the vehicle speed component. This technique effectively identifies various damage scenarios considered in the study.展开更多

The motion and penetration of the particles on the screen deck were analyzed for linear, circular and elliptical vibration of the screen. The results show that the travel velocity of the particles is the fastest, but the screening efficiency is the lowest, for the linear vibration mode. The circular motion resulted in the highest screening efficiency, but the lowest particle travel velocity. In the steady state the screening efficiency for each mode is seen to increase gradually along the longitudinal direction of the deck. The screening efficiency increment of the circular mode is the largest while the linear mode shows the smallest increment. The volume fraction of near-mesh size particles at the underside is larger than that of small size particles all along the screen deck. Linear screening mode has more near-mesh and small size particles on the first three deck sections, and fewer on the last two sections, compared to the circular or elliptical modes.展开更多

First, the damping matrix is decomposed into the sum of a proportional-and a nonproportional-damping parts, and the solutions of the real modal eigenproblem with the proportional dampings are determined, which are a set of initial approximate solutions of the complex modal eigenproblem. Second, by taking the nonproportional-damping part as a small modification to the proportional one and using the matrix perturbation analysis method, a set of approximate solutions of the complex modal eigenvalue problem can be obtained analytically. The result is quite simple. The new method is applicable to the systems with viscous dampings-which do not deviate far away from the proportional-damping case. It is particularly important that the solution technique be also effective to the systems with heavy, but not over, dampings. The solution formulas of complex modal eigenvlaues and eigenvectors are derived up to second-order perturbation terms. The effectiveness of the perturbation algorithm is illustrated by an exemplar numerical problem with heavy dampings. In addition, the practicability of approximately estimating the complex modal eigenvalues, under the proportional-damping hypothesis, of damped vibration systems is discussed by several numerical examples.展开更多

While Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) offer valuable support for studying signal components, they also present certain limitations. This article integrates the strengths of both methods and proposes an enhanced approach that integrates VMD into the frequency band division principle of EWT. First, the linear continuation method of extreme points is used to determine the extremum of the signal endpoint fast. Secondly, the extreme points of transition section outside the signal ends are obtained by a mirror continuation method of extreme points, and then the envelope and continuation curve of the transition section of the signal are constructed. Lastly, the sinusoid of the stationary section outside the signal is constructed to achieve the continuation curve from the transition section to the stationary section. Based on the "singular extreme points" phenomenon of blasting vibration signal, the negative maxima and positive minimum are eliminated, then the maximum and minimum are guaranteed to appear at intervals. Thus, the number of iterations is reduced and the instability of EMD decomposition is improved. The calculation formula of amplitude, cycle and initial phase are given for the transition section and stationary section outside the signal. The endpoint processing effect of the simulated signal and the measured blasting vibration signal show that the improved endpoint continuation method can suppress the signal endpoint effect well.展开更多

This general solution, composed of the composite solutions of trigonometric function and hyperbolic function, can satisfy the problem of arbitrary boundary conditions along four edges. The algebraic polynomial with double sine series solutions can also satisfy the problem of boundary conditions at four corners. Consequently, this general solution can be used to solve the vibration problem of anisotropic rectangular plates with arbitrary boundaries accurately. The integral constants can be determined by boundary conditions of four edges and four corners. Each natural frequency and vibration mode can be solved by the determinate of coefficient matrix from the homogeneous linear algebraic equations equal to zero. For example, a composite symmetric angle ply laminated plate with four edges clamped has been calculated and discussed.展开更多

The study of plate behavior is a very sensitive subject because it is part of the structural elements. The study of the dynamic behavior of free vibration structures is done by modal analysis in order to calculate natural frequencies and modal deformations. In this paper, we present the modal analysis of a thin rectangular plate simply supported. The analytical solution of the differential equation is obtained by applying the method of separating the variables. We are talking about the exact solution of the problem to the limit values. However, numerical methods such as the finite element method allow us to approximate these functions with greater accuracy. It is one of the most powerful computational methods for predicting dynamic response in a complex structure subject to arbitrary boundary conditions. The results obtained by MEF through Ansys 15.0 are then compared with those obtained by the analytical method.展开更多

The traditional time-varying algorithm limits prediction accuracy, thus affecting a number of operational decisions. To solve this problem, a time-varying auto regressive (TVAR) model based on the process neural network (PNN) and the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is proposed. The time-varying system is tracked on-line by establishing a time-varying parameter model, and then the relevant parameter spectrum is obtained. Firstly, the EMD method is utilized to decompose the signal into several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). Then for each IMF, the PNN is established and the time-varying auto-spectral density is obtained. Finally, the time-frequency distribution of the signals can be reconstructed by linear superposition. The simulation and the analytical results from an example demonstrate that this approach possesses simplicity, effectiveness, and feasibility, as well as higher frequency resolution.展开更多

The endpoint processing effect of the simulated signal and the measured blasting vibration signal show that the improved endpoint continuation method can suppress the signal endpoint effect well.

文摘The analytical solution of a viscoelastic continuous beam whose damping characteristics are described in terms of a fractional derivative of arbitrary order was derived by means of the AdoInian decomposition method. The solution contains arbitrary initial conditions and zero input. For specific analysis, the initial conditions were assumed homogeneous, and the input force was treated as a special process with a particular beam. Two simple cases, step and impulse function responses, were considered respectively. Subsequently, some figures were plotted to show the displacement of the beam under different sets of parameters including different orders of the fractional derivatives.

文摘Pressure activity data as an important index of gastrointestinal (GI) motility can be obtained from the wireless radiotelemetry capsule. The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) method, which is more effective to process non-stationary signal, is proposed to identify the characteristics of GI motility. We decompose the pressure activity data into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), calculate the Hi/bert marginal spectrum and attain the peristalsis characteristics of GI tract. The IMFs represent the peristalses modes of GI tract activity embedded in the pressure data. The time-varying characteristic of the method suggests that the HHT is suitable to accommodate other non-stationary biomedical data analysis.

文摘According to the differential equation for transverse displacement function of anisotropic rectangular thin plates in free vibration, a general analytical solution is established. For example, a composite symmetric angle ply laminated plate with four edges clamped has been calculated and discussed.

文摘Under the consideration of harmonic fluctuations of initial tension and axially velocity, a nonlinear governing equation for transverse vibration of an axially accelerating string is set up by using the equation of motion for a 3-dimensional deformable body with initial stresses. The Kelvin model is used to describe viscoelastic behaviors of the material. The basis function of the complex-mode Galerkin method for axially accelerating nonlinear strings is constructed by using the modal function of linear moving strings with constant axially transport velocity. By the constructed basis functions, the application of the complex-mode Galerkin method in nonlinear vibration analysis of an axially accelerating viscoelastic string is investigated. Numerical results show that the convergence velocity of the complex-mode Galerkin method is higher than that of the real-mode Galerkin method for a variable coefficient gyroscopic system.

文摘To explore the influence of the fusion of different features on recognition, this paper took the electromyography(EMG)signals of rectus femoris under different motions(walk, step, ramp, squat, and sitting)as samples, linear features(time-domain features(variance(VAR)and root mean square(RMS)),frequency-domain features(mean frequency(MF)and mean power frequency(MPF)),and nonlinear features(empirical mode decomposition(EMD))of the samples were extracted. Two feature fusion algorithms, the series splicing method and complex vector method, were designed, which were verified by a double hidden layer(BP)error back propagation neural network. Results show that with the increase of the types and complexity of feature fusions, the recognition rate of the EMG signal to actions is gradually improved. When the EMG signal is used in the series splicing method, the recognition rate of time-domain+frequency-domain+empirical mode decomposition(TD+FD+EMD)splicing is the highest, and the average recognition rate is 92.32%.And this rate is raised to 96.1%by using the complex vector method, and the variance of the BP system is also reduced.
文摘In the realization of mechanical structures, achieving stability and balance is a problem commonly encountered by engineers in the field of civil engineering, mechanics, aeronautics, biomechanics and many others. The results obtained by MEF through Ansys 15.0 are then compared with those obtained by the analytical method.

文摘Predicting the time-varying auto-spectral density of a spacecraft in high-altitude orbits requires an accurate model for the non-stationary random vibration signals with densely spaced modal frequency. The simulation and the analytical results from an example demonstrate that this approach possesses simplicity, effectiveness, and feasibility, as well as higher frequency resolution.

文摘In order to truly obtain the feature extraction of vibration signals under the strong background noise, the analysis and improvement of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is carried on. After that, the improved EMD is applied to the feature extraction of vehicle vibration signals. First, the multi-autocorrelation method is adopted in each input signal,so the noise is reduced effectively. Then, EMD is used to deal with these signals, and the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are obtained. Finally, for obtaining the feature information of these signals, the Hilbert transformation and the spectrum analysis are performed in some IMFs. Theoretical analysis and ex- periment verify the effectiveness of the method, which are valuable reference for the same engineering problems.
