However, the efficiency of artificial nano-scale structures is not reliable sufficiently. Moreover, the mechanical parameters related to the nano-hair attachment are not yet revealed qualitatively. The mechanical parameters which have influence on the ability of adhesive nano-hairs were investigated through numerical simulation in which only van der Waals force was considered. For the numerical analysis, finite element method was utilized and van der Waals force, assumed as 12-6 Lennard-Jones potential, was implemented as the body force term in the finite element formulation.展开更多

The effects of different punch and rubber hardness on the limit principal strain distributions were investigated experimentally. Finite element analysis models of the samples with dimensions of 180 mm×180 mm were established to analyze the friction coefficients of different interfaces. Effects of various friction coefficients on the strain distributions were studied in detail. Finally, the friction coefficients in the cold forming were determined by contrasting the strain results between the experimental data and the simulated ones.展开更多

The results show that, for the mountain frame structure, influence on the horizontal displacement of the vertical under the action of alone big earthquake, and vertical seismic action on horizontal displacement effect is smaller by mutual function of horizontal and vertical seismic, basically is same as response under the action of horizontal earthquake alone; for step shaped box foundation, the change trend of mutual function of horizontal and vertical earthquake was the complete opposite of the maximum story drift each layer under the one-way horizontal earthquake, which indicate the presence of vertical earthquake wave effect on the box foundation displacement cannot be ignored.展开更多

Grinding- aided electrochemical discharge machining (G-ECDM) is a promising technology for drilling advanced hard-to-ma- chine ceramics, glass, composites, and other brittle mate- rials. Edge-chipping at the entrance of the hole can be fully eliminated by optimizing the machining parameters of G-ECDM. However, edge-chipping at the exit of the hole is difficult to eliminate during the drilling of ceramics and glass. This investigation suggests some practical ways to reduce edge-chipping at the exit of the hole. For this pur- pose, a three-dimensional finite element model was developed, and a coupled field analysis was conducted to study the effect of four parameters, i.e., cutting depth, support length, applied voltage, and pulse-on time, on the maximum normal stress in the region where the edge- chipping initiates. The model is capable of predicting the edge-chipping thickness, and the results predicted by the model are in close agreement with the experiment results. This investigation recommends the use of a low voltage and low pulse-on time at the hole entrance and exit when applying G-ECDM to reduce the edge-chipping thickness. Moreover, the use of a full rigid support in the form of a base plate or sacrificial plate beneath the workpiece can postpone the initiation of chipping by providing support when the tool reaches the bottom layer of the workpiece, thereby reducing the edge-chipping thickness.展开更多

A two- dimensional FE model is established for the plane strain condition by FE code ABAQUS, and the FE model is vali- dated by experiments. The aim of this research is to inves- tigate forming quality states in the JCOE forming process; in particular, the effects of technological parameters on form- ing quality are evaluated. Taking the JCOE forming process of X80 steel φ1 219 mm × 22 mm × 12 000 mmwelding pipe for instance, the deformation characteristics of JCOE forming are analyzed, in which the geometry of the formed pipe, residual stress distributions and effects of process parameters on JCOE forming quality can be obtained. Thus, the presented results of this research provide an effective approach to improve welding pipe forming quality.展开更多
