Two novel performance indices, the critical slider stroke and the main section area of workspace, are defined; The expressions of two other indices, i.e. the global dexterity and global force transfer ratio are revised based on the main section of workspace. Using these indices, performance changes versus the varieties of dimensional parameters of mechanism are investigated in detail and the graphic descriptions of change tendencies of the performance indices are illustrated. By means of these obtained graphic descriptions, kinematic parameters for the 3-PUU pure translational parallel mechanism with better characteristics can be directly acquired.展开更多
Rolling element bearing is the most common machine element in rotating machinery.An extended life is among the foremost imperative standards in the optimal design of rolling element bearings,which confide on the fatig...Rolling element bearing is the most common machine element in rotating machinery.An extended life is among the foremost imperative standards in the optimal design of rolling element bearings,which confide on the fatigue failure,wear,and thermal conditions of bearings.To fill the gap,in the current work,all three objectives of a tapered roller bearing have been innovatively considered respectively,which are the dynamic capacity,elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication(EHL)minimum film⁃thickness,and maximum bearing temperature.These objective function formulations are presented,associated design variables are identified,and constraints are discussed.To solve complex non⁃linear constrained optimization formulations,a best⁃practice design procedure was investigated using the Artificial Bee Colony(ABC)algorithms.A sensitivity analysis of several geometric design variables was conducted to observe the difference in all three objectives.An excellent enhancement was found in the bearing designs that have been optimized as compared with bearing standards and previously published works.The present study will definitely add to the present experience based design followed in bearing industries to save time and obtain assessment of bearing performance before manufacturing.To verify the improvement,an experimental investigation is worthwhile conducting.展开更多

F. Hughes, has been proposed in this paper to solve the problem of high time cost in adopting a rational-based optimal design method for ship structural design. Furthermore,the method was verified by its effective application in optimization of the mid-ship section of a container ship. A full 3-D FEM model of a ship,suffering static and quasi-static loads, was used as the analyzing object for evaluating the structural performance of the mid-ship module, including static strength and buckling performance. Research results reveal that this new method could substantially reduce the computational cost of the rational-based optimization problem without decreasing its accuracy, which increases the feasibility and economic efficiency of using a rational-based optimal design method in ship structural design.展开更多

K-mer can be used for the description of biological sequences and k-mer distribution is a tool for solving sequences analysis problems in bioinformatics.We can use k-mer vector as a representation method of the k-mer ...K-mer can be used for the description of biological sequences and k-mer distribution is a tool for solving sequences analysis problems in bioinformatics.We can use k-mer vector as a representation method of the k-mer distribution of the biological sequence.Problems,such as similarity calculations or sequence assembly,can be described in the k-mer vector space.It helps us to identify new features of an old sequence-based problem in bioinformatics and develop new algorithms using the concepts and methods from linear space theory.In this study,we defined the k-mer vector space for the generalized biological sequences.The meaning of corresponding vector operations is explained in the biological context.We presented the vector/matrix form of several widely seen sequence-based problems,including read quantification,sequence assembly,and pattern detection problem.Its advantages and disadvantages are discussed.Also,we implement a tool for the sequence assembly problem based on the concepts of k-mer vector methods.It shows the practicability and convenience of this algorithm design strategy.展开更多
With the rapid development of technology,processing the explosive growth of meteorological data on traditional standalone computing has become increasingly time-consuming,which cannot meet the demands of scientific re...With the rapid development of technology,processing the explosive growth of meteorological data on traditional standalone computing has become increasingly time-consuming,which cannot meet the demands of scientific research and business.Therefore,this paper proposes the implementation of the parallel Clustering Large Application based upon RANdomized Search(CLARANS)clustering algorithm on the Spark cloud computing platformto cluster China’s climate regions usingmeteorological data from1988 to 2018.The aim is to address the challenge of applying clustering algorithms to large datasets.In this paper,the morphological similarity distance is adopted as the similarity measurement standard instead of Euclidean distance,which improves clustering accuracy.Furthermore,the issue of local optima caused by an improper selection of initial clustering centers is addressed by utilizing the max-distance criterion.Compared to the k-means clustering algorithm already implemented in the Spark platform,the proposed algorithm has strong robustness,can reduce the interference of outliers in the dataset on clustering results,and has higher parallel performance than the frequently used serial algorithms,thus improving the efficiency of big data analysis.This experiment compares the clustered centroid data with the annual average meteorological data of representative cities in the five typical meteorological regions that exist in China,and the results show that the clustering results are in good agreement with the meteorological data obtained from the National Meteorological Science Data Center.This algorithm has a positive effect on the clustering analysis of massive meteorological data and deserves attention in scientific research activities.展开更多
Some electrical parameters of the SIS-type hysteretic underdamped Josephson junction(JJ)can be measured by its current-voltage characteristics(IVCs).Currents and voltages at JJ are commensurate with the intrinsic nois...Some electrical parameters of the SIS-type hysteretic underdamped Josephson junction(JJ)can be measured by its current-voltage characteristics(IVCs).Currents and voltages at JJ are commensurate with the intrinsic noise level of measuring instruments.This leads to the need for multiple measurements with subsequent statistical processing.In this paper,the digital algorithms are proposed for the automatic measurement of the JJ parameters by IVC.These algorithms make it possible to implement multiple measurements and check these JJ parameters in an automatic mode with the required accuracy.The complete sufficient statistics are used to minimize the root-mean-square error of parameter measurement.A sequence of current pulses with slow rising and falling edges is used to drive JJ,and synchronous current and voltage readings at JJ are used to realize measurement algorithms.The algorithm performance is estimated through computer simulations.The significant advantage of the proposed algorithms is the independence from current source noise and intrinsic noise of current and voltage meters,as well as the simple implementation in automatic digital measuring systems.The proposed algorithms can be used to control JJ parameters during mass production of superconducting integrated circuits,which will improve the production efficiency and product quality.展开更多

For this strategy, the vehicle operating mode is switched based on the vehicle speed, and an "optimal line" typed strategy is designed for the parallel control. The optimization parameters include the speed threshold for mode switching, the highest state of charge allowed, the lowest state of charge allowed and the scale factor of the engine optimal torque to the engine maximum torque at a rotational speed. They are optimized through numerical experiments based on real-value genes, arithmetic crossover and mutation operators. The hybrid bus has been evaluated at the Chinese Transit Bus City Driving Cycle via road test, in which a control area network-based monitor system was used to trace the driving schedule. The test result shows that this approach is feasible for the control parameter optimization. This approach can be applied to not only the novel construction presented in this paper, but also other types of hybrid electric vehicles.展开更多

Severe earthquake can bring serious problems in the wind turbines and eventually lead to an interruption to their electric power supply. To overcome and prevent these undesirable problems, structural design optimization of a small vertical axis wind turbine has performed, in this study, for seismic qualification and lightweight by using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) subject to some design constraints such as the maximum stress limit, maximum deformation limit, and seismic acceleration gain limit. Also, the structural design optimizations were conducted for the four different initial design variable sets to confirm robustness of the optimization algorithm used. As a result, all the optimization results for the 4 different initial designs showed good agreement with each other properly. Thus the structural design optimization of a small vertical-axis wind turbine could be successfully accomplished.展开更多

Accordingly, this type of ...Despite small workspace, parallel manipulators have some advantages over their serial counterparts in terms of higher speed, acceleration, rigidity, accuracy, manufacturing cost and payload. Accordingly, this type of manipulators can be used in many applications such as in high-speed machine tools, tuning machine for feeding, sensitive cutting, assembly and packaging. This paper presents a special type of planar parallel manipulator with three degrees of freedom. It is constructed as a variable geometry truss generally known planar Stewart platform. The reachable and orientation workspaces are obtained for this manipulator. The inverse kinematic analysis is solved for the trajectory tracking according to the redundancy and joint limit avoidance. Then, the dynamics model of the manipulator is established by using Virtual Work method. The simulations are performed to follow the given planar trajectories by using the dynamic equations of the variable geometry truss manipulator and computed force control method. In computed force control method, the feedback gain matrices for PD control are tuned with fixed matrices by trail end error and variable ones by means of optimization with genetic algorithm.展开更多

The proposed mechanisms are exemplified by means of one algorithm, which demonstrates their applicability to real-time applications. An active vibration control (AVC) algorithm for a flexible beam system simulated using the finite difference (FD) method is considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. The algorithm consists of two modes: scanning and detecting. Search diagrams are introduced as a way to describe parallel searching algorithms on unbounded intervals. Dynamic programming equations, combined with a series of liner programming problems, describe relations between results for every pair of successive evaluations of function f in parallel. Properties of optimal search strategies are derived from these equations. The worst-case complexity analysis shows that, if the maximizer is located on a priori unknown interval (n-1], then it can be detected after cp(n)=「2log「p/2」+1(n+1)」-1 parallel evaluations of f(x), where p is the number of processors.展开更多

Severe earthquake can bring serious problems in the wind turbines and eventually lead to an interruption to their electric power supply. To overcome and prevent these undesirable problems, structural design optimization of a small vertical axis wind turbine has performed, in this study, for seismic qualification and lightweight by using a Genetic Algorithm (GA) subject to some design constraints such as the maximum stress limit, maximum deformation limit, and seismic acceleration gain limit. Also, the structural design optimizations were conducted for the four different initial design variable sets to confirm robustness of the optimization algorithm used. As a result, all the optimization results for the 4 different initial designs showed good agreement with each other properly. Thus the structural design optimization of a small vertical-axis wind turbine could be successfully accomplished.

文摘To guarantee the accuracy of error analysis and evaluate the manufacturing tolerance s influence,anumerical error analysis method for parallel kinematic machines (PKMs) is presented in this paper.Quasi-Newton method and genetic algorithm are introduced for the forward kinematic solution.Based onthe inverse and forward kinematic solutions,the end-effector s error calculation procedure is developed.To solve the accuracy problem caused by the length and angular parameters' different units,a normalizationmethod is proposed based on the manufacturing tolerance.Comparison between the error analysis resultscalculated by the traditional method and the numerical method for a 4RRR PKM shows that,this numericalerror analysis method is more accurate,simpler,and can evaluate the machine s real error basedon the manufacturing tolerance.

文摘Despite small workspace, parallel manipulators have some advantages over their serial counterparts in terms of higher speed, acceleration, rigidity, accuracy, manufacturing cost and payload. Accordingly, this type of manipulators can be used in many applications such as in high-speed machine tools, tuning machine for feeding, sensitive cutting, assembly and packaging. This paper presents a special type of planar parallel manipulator with three degrees of freedom. It is constructed as a variable geometry truss generally known planar Stewart platform. The reachable and orientation workspaces are obtained for this manipulator. The inverse kinematic analysis is solved for the trajectory tracking according to the redundancy and joint limit avoidance. Then, the dynamics model of the manipulator is established by using Virtual Work method. The simulations are performed to follow the given planar trajectories by using the dynamic equations of the variable geometry truss manipulator and computed force control method. In computed force control method, the feedback gain matrices for PD control are tuned with fixed matrices by trail end error and variable ones by means of optimization with genetic algorithm.

文摘A recommender system(RS)relying on latent factor analysis usually adopts stochastic gradient descent(SGD)as its learning algorithm.However,owing to its serial mechanism,an SGD algorithm suffers from low efficiency and scalability when handling large-scale industrial problems.Aiming at addressing this issue,this study proposes a momentum-incorporated parallel stochastic gradient descent(MPSGD)algorithm,whose main idea is two-fold:a)implementing parallelization via a novel datasplitting strategy,and b)accelerating convergence rate by integrating momentum effects into its training process.With it,an MPSGD-based latent factor(MLF)model is achieved,which is capable of performing efficient and high-quality recommendations.Experimental results on four high-dimensional and sparse matrices generated by industrial RS indicate that owing to an MPSGD algorithm,an MLF model outperforms the existing state-of-the-art ones in both computational efficiency and scalability.
文摘Although computer architectures incorporate fast processing hardware resources, high performance real-time implementation of a complex control algorithm requires an efficient design and software coding of the algorithm so as to exploit special features of the hardware and avoid associated architecture shortcomings. This paper presents an investigation into the analysis and design mechanisms that will lead to reduction in the execution time in implementing real-time control algorithms. The proposed mechanisms are exemplified by means of one algorithm, which demonstrates their applicability to real-time applications. An active vibration control (AVC) algorithm for a flexible beam system simulated using the finite difference (FD) method is considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods. A comparative performance evaluation of the proposed design mechanisms is presented and discussed through a set of experiments.

文摘This work is aimed at investigating the online scheduling problem on two parallel and identical machines with a new feature that service requests from various customers are entitled to many different grade of service (GoS) levels, so each job and machine are labelled with the GoS levels, and each job can be processed by a particular machine only when its GoS level is no less than that of the machine. The goal is to minimize the makespan. For non-preemptive version, we propose an optimal online al-gorithm with competitive ratio 5/3. For preemptive version, we propose an optimal online algorithm with competitive ratio 3/2.

文摘As the idea of simulated annealing (SA) is introduced into the fitness function, an improved genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed to perform the optimal design of a pressure vessel which aims to attain the minimum weight under burst pressure con- straint. The actual burst pressure is calculated using the arc-length and restart analysis in finite element analysis (FEA). A penalty function in the fitness function is proposed to deal with the constrained problem. The effects of the population size and the number of generations in the GA on the weight and burst pressure of the vessel are explored. The optimization results using the proposed GA are also compared with those using the simple GA and the conventional Monte Carlo method.

文摘In this paper we consider a parallel algorithm that detects the maximizer of unimodal function f(x) computable at every point on unbounded interval (0, ∞). The algorithm consists of two modes: scanning and detecting. Search diagrams are introduced as a way to describe parallel searching algorithms on unbounded intervals. Dynamic programming equations, combined with a series of liner programming problems, describe relations between results for every pair of successive evaluations of function f in parallel. Properties of optimal search strategies are derived from these equations. The worst-case complexity analysis shows that, if the maximizer is located on a priori unknown interval (n-1], then it can be detected after cp(n)=「2log「p/2」+1(n+1)」-1 parallel evaluations of f(x), where p is the number of processors.
